Just thought I'd let those who are curious know. My friend got an a680 for his 8100, and I was hoping for that, but oh well. I know it's pretty much just whatever they pick out for you, but still :(.
Well, on the bright side of things... it works :)

This is the worst replacement story I've ever heard. I wouldn't accept it.... 5300 has better camera, flash, bigger display, etc. Not comparable. My uncle got a VM4500 for his 5300 (legitimate replacement). That's more of a fair replacement in my mind, especially when you're comparing the original price.

man that sucks. the 5300 was way better than the 8100.

That is an absolutely unacceptable substitution. The 8100 was specifically introduced to be the cheap junior-Gman version of the 5300, which was Sprint's original camera phone and which remained Sprint's flagship phone for quite some time.

Specifically, the 5300's camera is 640x480 (CCD, I think) whereas the 8100's is a pitiful 352x288 CMOS; the 5300 has a flash whereas the 8100 does not; and the 5300's screen is 132x176 whereas the 8100's is a paltry 120x144.

Looks like I'll make a call to complain and get something better.... thanks!

Called and complained they said they would replace it only because it lacked a flash. So, I'm guessing I might get an a680, 5500, or 8200.

Someone read the replacement sheet backwards... Well let us know, though I don't think the handsets with video are going to be your replacement option. (But you never know.)

I will let everyone know though.

One of the video-clip phones (A680, VM4500, etc.) would be nice, but I'm afraid you may get the 8200 or even a refurbished A620 (ugh!). Oh well, let's hope that Lockline runs out of the A620 and 8200 by March, when I plan to complain (truthfully) that my old Sanyo 5300 no longer performs "as new." (It has an old Circuit City service plan.)

Does the A620 have a flash?

"Comparable" to a 5300, I'd say.

Within 30 days you can dispute it with lockline. They can and usually send a better phone. thing is in the stores we go by the same list for DHRP that lockline is given, and 5300's have been scarce. They just dont go bad, and they are getting older, therefore harder to get hold of. I LOVED my 5300 I had 1.5yers ago. that was one of the best phones at that time, and I dont regret saying it still hold a special place in my heart :-)
