send SMS during call?

Which phones are capable of sending SMS messages during a call? My VM4500 cannot, but I seem to recall reading that one of the newer Samsung's could. Any others?

Last time I did it I was just messing around with the person I was talking to by sending them an SMS at the same time. Maybe if you are on hold and want to do something to pass the time.

It is convenient to be able to do that, don't you think? If you are on a call and don't want to disconnect just to send a sms or ask a simple question of some sort.

A friend of mine told me that he could. I did not believe him. I do not know if it was with his Samsung vi660 or his newer Sanyo 8200 though. I too wish my vm4500 could. It's the simple things that are a thorn in my side sometimes. :)

I agree because I have been in that situation countless times while I was on a lengthy call. Then, the person who texted me wanted to know why I didn't answer and I had to say because I couldn't - I was on a call. But, at least being able to read them while on a call is better than NEXTEL where you can't even do that (or at least it used to be that you couldn't).

Vi660 does.. Iv used it alot.. I always seem to get my messages when Im on the phone.. and I have to reply to them!!

my 4500 does sometimes if i get a message while in call it shows the reply button

i think it only does it if its a number not in my phonebook though it weired

Exactly, you still get the REPLY softkey but when you click it, it will tell you this.

I'm glad they finally added that feature. being able to receive but not send was kindof stupid. clearly there was enough bandwith to begin with :)

I have the 8200 and I have recieved one before while on the phone but I don't know If I can reply back. I don't think you can on the 8200. I'll have to see!! Rose

You can't on the 8200. You can only receive SMS messages.

Thanks, I didn't think so but I've never need to send one while talking anyway. But twice I received one and I heard the noise like call waiting then I saw it was there.. I thought that was cool just to receive. Rose

It does not seem like it would be too hard to make a minor phone firmware upgrade to support this. I mean minor changes have been made to enhance RL feature slightly.
