It only crashed once when I cancelled a Bluetooth file transfer

99% of the time, my Treo crashes when using the Blazer browser. Oftemtimes even simple sites (no Flash, etc.) cause it to crash. Hopefully I just have a defective unit and that there isn't a defect in the design of the product itself.

I strongly think that you have a defective unit.

The only problem I've had with my 650 is with Chatter email. Other than that I'm very, very pleased with the 650. Frankly, I just can't understand why so many folks are having problems. I have pTunes, iSilo and Laridian Pocket Bible installed plus am using Versamail and Docs to Go. I have alot of calendar, contact and notes entries and still have 14MB of memory left over. The 650 is fantastic IMO.

Not a single crash or reboot. I think that most people are trying to use old 600 software on the 650 and it isn't always compatible. Lots of the software needs to be tweaked to run stably on the 650.

Mine died on the first hotsync, but then I discovered a long-dormant directory of an old PalmOS install for my Prism. I blew that away, hard reset my Treo, and everything has been wonderful ever since.....This device just blows me away. My only real disappointment is that I can't assign ringtones to individual contacts. And that is a very minor disappointment.

After much arguing with Sprint customer service (which many times seems like an oxymoron), I managed to get Sprint to cross ship another 650 to me. It should arrive before the end of the week.

Man, Sprint can be a REAL pain to deal with! As you know (those of you reading my other threads), it took two months and numerous calls to Sprint before they would acknowledge that my Samsung MM-A700 was defective. Then, they finally allowed me to exchange it for the 650. On Monday, I called customer service SEVEN times - speaking to a different rep each time - and all but the last one told me that they would NOT send out a new 650 to me. Argh! They kept telling me to "go to the store and they'll (the store) will take care of it". Well, I did go to the store - actually three different ones in San Diego - and they all told me to call CS. Also, the stores over here still don't have the 650 in stock and may not have it for three more weeks. I explained this to the CS reps and they all but said "too bad". I left my office and went out to my car (didn't want the people down the hall to hear me yelling) to call CS again and REALLY chew them out. Only then did I get a very polite and caring rep that was HAPPY to cross ship a new 650 to me. BTW, I did have to threaten - again - to cancel my account and say that I didn't mind paying the penalty for doing so.

Soooo...I should have another 650 soon. Hopefully it'll be bug free. :)

I exchanged my 650 yesterday and at first I didn't think the lag calling out was as long as the first one but I think is :( I read a post a treo central saying that the lag might not be fixable. I forget what thread I've read way to many and I know it's just speculation but how can palm think that's ok? I haven't tested out the sound quality on the other end yet but will today. The tech wanted to order me one but the rep told me she hooked me up. I called ahead to make sure they had some instock. I was just going to exchange and try the 7400 but I wanted to try another 650. Plus I have untill jan 30 to return it for a full refund so hopefully sprint/plam fix the bugs quick.

My first Treo 650 had a sticky "P" key making it very difficult to typppppe.

The folks in my nearby Sprint store exchanged it a week after I purchased it there after looking it over for half an hour.

My second Treo 650 is delightful and I'm very pleased with it. However it is prone to spontaneously rebooting especially when hotsyncing with my Bluetooth Sony Clie laptop. I had the same problem with my first 650.

Aside from those two problems, it's a dream come true for me. /Carl

Mine crashes from time to time.... no real pattern.

But the most annoying thing that mine continues to do from time to time....:

Sometimes when a call comes and I don't answer it... the phone will not stop ringing and None of the keys will respond... The only way to stop the ringing is to do a soft reset..... :furious:

Imagine my frustration when this happens while driving.....

Crashes almost all the time when idle, radio on or off, on empty or with third-party software. Must reboot by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Virtually unusable.

treo 650 froze at least once a day .................. $600

treo 700p froze every day, and crashed while trying to watch sprint tv ................. $650

took them all back and picked up a 6700 in exchange .............. Priceless

the 650 froze alot and always did a soft reset when trying to open its OE pre-loaded apps. took it back

got the 700p, froze during phone calls, so i couldnt press any buttons or end the call, also crashed while trying to watch sprint tv, as well as doing random crashes while it was just sitting there, and i was able to witness that one. took it back to sprint and told them, take this POS back, i thought they fixed alot of these problems. OH AND ANOTHER ONE, while i was using my BT HS, being on a call for a minimal of 6 minutes, getting off the call, via HS button, or END button on the phone, the phone would turn off (PHONE OFF) and make the ding noises, then wait several seconds, and come back on saying in the top left, SPRINT.

CS told me to get the 6700 and let me tell you guys and gals, best move i've made yet. i loved the phone when i got it, took it home, downloaded the new rom, and NEWMENU program, and got WiFi working, and i love it even more! if you get a chance, please pick up this phone.

you can tell after the rom update, that you can tell the big difference in processing tasks speed, and the simi new layout and and extra features that were added

I love my Treo 650 except that the whole crash/restart problem is starting to really get on my nerves.
It crashes at least 4 to 5 times a day and then i have to redo my font settings and all that all over again....

I don't think i am using any treo 600 software. what else could be causing this continuous problem???

I heard an opinion that the sim gets dusty and that you need to clean it, did that but to no avail?

any ideas?

Over the last few days, my T650 has been randomly rebooting two to three times per day. A week ago it did not have this problem. Could it have anything to do with the Daylight Savings Time (DST) patch? I am only running the Palm software and GoodLink to sync with my Exchange account.

Today it also locked up to a point where I had to take the battery out to get it back to normal.

I am getting ready to take it to the Sprint store for replacement.

Wirelessly posted (Palm Treo 650: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

Mine can even crash when it is just sitting there doing nothing. Junk.

Hey Guys

Just thought I'd share a tip with you. I've had my 650 way over a year and over the last 4-5 months started getting random reboots that increased in frequency over time until the phone was completely unreliable. The phone would also turn itself on and off randomly when lying on a flat surface.

After firmware updates and software reinstalls didn't help, I started looking for a hardware problem. I finally narrowed it down the the battery not being seated firmly in its socket! I used a folded business card to wedge the battery in tight and the reboots stopped instantly.

I guess though normal use and a few falls over the years the battery starts to shift around and mess up the voltage coming across its contacts.

Anyway thought this might be useful information if you have more frequent reboots as your 650 ages.
