I changed my opinion after more than a day with this thing. I've never had to do so many soft resets in my whole entire life. The system is very faulty. Even though the screen on the pocket pc 6601 is awful, I'm staying with it. At least it's an excellent phone and it is stable.

I got rid of my 650 for the same reasons and then some. BTW, I find the screen on the 6601 to be awesome. I have played with just about all of the new "converged" phones and find the 6601 to be the best of them all. Why don't you like yours?

i agree with the treo 650 issues. i wish i were as lucky to only have soft resets, i only get hard resets b/c it crashes to the point where it wont start up to the main screen. it just cycles in the start up screens. i definately think its b/c of my treo 600 software etc from before this treo 650. i try to use my aol application 3.2.1 and it crashes when i use it after a few succesful times. i heard others dont have problems with the aol. why me? can i call palmone to get technical support. i wish o knew what files were suppossed to be in the backup folder when you first sync it without adding anything to the treo at all. than i can see which files dont belong. i dont want to delete something im not suppossed to when ppl say to install everything 1 by 1 to see which is the culprit.

but i love everything about the phone. all the improvements seems to be super. i just wanna end this crashing issue. could mine be defective? who knows! thats the problem, maybe it isnt an application, maybe mine is defective. thats what i hate, you never know. ialso see that the phone seems a bit slow. when you wanna dial a number in the call log etc, seems to delay a couple seconds. no biggie

I still havent gotten a reset. It must have to do with third party apps that are incompatible.

While the display and camera have been substantially improved over the 600, the 650 isn't much use when in crashes ever other time I try to browse the Web. :(

I just spent two months arguing with Sprint customer service in order to get them to finally allow me to return my buggy Samsung MM-A700 and now I've got a buggy Treo! Argh. Was looking at T-Mobile the other day and wish I would have switched to T-Mobile and gone with one of the newer iPaqs.

I brought my 650 in to the Sprint store for service the other day and the techs made me wait an hour while they "worked" on my Treo. When I came back to pick it up, it turns out they hadn't done jack to it - though they did acknowledge that that the reboot problem did indeed exist - and then said "Wait a month or so and there should be a software fix out". Yeah right! $599 for a phone and now I'm told to wait for a fix?! If the 650 were a car, it would be considered to be a "lemon". :(

6601 screen, itself, isn't that bad. However, when you compare the screen with the Ipaq 4700....which I had before, it's a different story.

I haven't had one crash knock on wood but it's my first treo and I haven't downloaded that many apps yet.

I'm really like mine. I'm just not used to a bigger non-flip phone. I have a few minor issues. The lag when dialing out of your contacts is a little annoying. If you do a reset will that fix it? I wonder if it has somthing to do when you sync your contacts in? I'm not sure when it started doing that. Theres no lag when you just dial out. The other issue is the home button. Also When you select a contact you have to scroll down one from the name. Would have been nice if the main number was next to the name. Few others but for the most part I'm impressed by it. :D

carmax not sure if this will help you but heres a link from treo central

hmm, sounds like sprint may rushed this one. it'll probably work great when the other carriers release it. maybe sprint should have waited?

I like the size of the Treo 650 and yes; Palm has a problem on their hand; I have bought one for my wife too but I may return hers and let her try the PC 6601. But she wants a camera too. Hopefully Sprint will release their new samsung after the first of the year.

Palm has a chance to make it right; I hope they do; otherwise I might have to jump ship. The Treo 600 worked good except for the screen and no BT!!

Believe it or not, I've decided to keep my treo for now. Even though the phone quality is sort of muffled, I took it into my office. I usually don't get any reception, but I have two bars on the treo. If anything, this is a great pda. It's not a great phone..but oh well.

If you have a problem with your TREO650 looping (requiring hard resets), both Sprint PCS and Palmone are ware of the issue. I had the same problem, and took my phone into a SPRINTPCS service store, they ran a few tests and then gave me a new phone replacement.

They indicated a software bug is the cause, I hope they have a fix for that bug soon for every one.

If you have problems with the handset, take it into a SPRINT PCS service store and ask them for help! That is how I resolved my issues with the TREO650.

Great phone, once that bug is worked out.

Best of days. :)

Not a single hard or soft reset in nearly two weeks of use. Perfect BT, USB and IR hotsyncing. BT DUN and USB DUN also work great. Haven't tried IR DUN.

I've never reset mine

I reset mine once, after the first hotsync, when I discovered a long leftover PALM folder that contained data for my Handspring Prism. My Treo crashed on the hotsync, and I had to do a hard reset to clear everything out. I deleted that Palm directory, reinstalled, and have had NO problems since.

I love this phone......best $600 I have spent in years!

Hi all...I like mine, no reset issues etc., but have had many people tell me they can't understand me. So I left a message for myself on my office voicemail and listened to it...and it does sound like someone has placed a rag over the mic. Is anyone else having this problem? I've only had mine a month so I could take it back to sprint store and complain.

Before I do that, I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem?

I will call my home phone and check mine out. Do you have the latest update? 1.2 or so? I also use the volume control program that you get at mytreo.net

I've had my Treo 650 for three weeks now and only had to reset twice. On initial sync there was conflicting files from my old T-3 and when I did the upgrade to ver 1.12. Would definately reccoment to do the upgrade before any sync or setup, as the upgrade wipes all that info away. The unit itself is great. Reception is as good, and in some places even better, than with my Toshiba VM 4050. Volume and clearity are excellent. The organizer is as good as my Palm was and now I have everything all in one unit. Couldn't be happier!

You have had it a day!!! What software do you have on it, Freeware, shareware? Where did you buy the phone? Was the ROM updated? It is not fair to say the Treo 650 is crap if you have had it for just one day! Why don't you update it, or take it into a Sprint store before you go making fun of it?! Any number of factors can cause problems. Give it a fair chance before you go knocking my baby the Treo 650!

Yea, mine had the latest on it when I got it. I friend of mine as a treo600 with cingular and his sounds fine...so I'm not sure. If some of you wouldn't mind calling me from your phone and leaving me a message so I can see what yours sounds like...call my office at 252-237-6780 my extension is 240. Thanks all! If you all aren't having these problems, I think I may go back to sprint and see if I can get them to replace mine.

I had the Tro650 since it first came out.. I did have problems w/it but came to a determination that it was user/3rd party app problems. After reading many threads on TREOCENTRAL I've solved many problems. I have a very stable TREO and am very happy w/what it does. Best $600+ investment I've ever made.

The TREO650 maybe to much of a phone/pda for you. Just get a regular phone...

What makes it not a great phone. I was at the Jaguars game this past Thursday. 64000 people + I was at the budwieser zone w/a HS band behind me. W/ the help of VolumeCare I was able to listen to the other person on the line clearly and vise versa. I turned the mic volume down so it wouldn't p/u the background music. Turned headset to 100+%..

Try VolumeCare.. You can change the mic volume..
I also needed to increase the mic volume and VolumeCare (http://gotreosoftware.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=11) has worked great -- definitely give it a try.

Man this is a old thread... I tried the 650 a few times a few months ago. I decided to return it because I didn't care for the low earpiece, the delay dialing out from the phonebook/speed dials and I had a lot of calls go directlly into voicemail. I just think these things are unexceptable for a $600 pda cell phone. However I'm thinking about trying it out again since I've read that volume care improves the sound quality. Does the phone still have the delay calling out? Also how is the reception compared to 7400,5600,535?

thanks

Man this is a old thread... I tried the 650 a few times months ago and one of the main reasons I returned it was because I didn't care for the low earpiece. Now since everybody says volume care helps a lot I'm thinking about maybe trying it again. One of the other things that bothered me was the delay dialing out from the phonebook and speed dials. Has that improved at all? Also how is the reception compared to 7400,5600,535?

thanks

VolumeCare works great if you are one of those people who think you need it. I personally have no gripe about the earpiece volume. The dialing delay has been completely removed (in my experience) with the latest firmware. I don't have experience with the 7400 or the 5600, but I do have the 535 and I can tell you that the Treo has better reception where I live.

VolumeCare is great... the last time I had a Palm I didn't pay for any apps (but that was back in the day where deleting and reinstalling would actually reset your trial....) but VolumeCare was definitely worth the money. Coming from the LG 535 I was not used to the low volume at all, along with the ringers issue (only does WAVs and MIDIs). But VolumeCare combined with Ringo Pro (the version I have is pretty stable) and I've got a good cell phone back :tu: plus a PDA to boot

I brought my 650 in to the Sprint store for service the other day and the techs made me wait an hour while they "worked" on my Treo. When I came back to pick it up, it turns out they hadn't done jack to it -

This reminds of a time I took my phone to my local Sprint store to have it checked for a problem. After waiting over 2 hours, long line, the rep tells me, we don't have phone technicians at this location.

After looking straight at the idiot Sprint rep for one solid minute, I point to the huge banner over his head that reads "Sprint Phone Technicians On Duty Now". He looks up, smiles, then tells me, Oh, yeah, we will have techs here on-site in 3 months, we don't have any yet. So I looked at the idiot a bit longer wondering whay the F*CK do you have such a BIG sign advertising it then?

But from the idiotic look on his face, I decided not to go down that dark and mysterious road and I left... Some things are better not understood.

Dude! Try repairing the problems before you start putting the Treo down. We all have had problems with our cell phones and PDA's from time to time, the Treo is no exception. The Treo has been rated the Best Smart Device out of every other device on the market. These rating have been coming from tons of web sites, magazines, and on.

Palm Inc earned rating for a reason. You should find a way to get it working correctly before you completely make fun of the phone. Try PalmOnes web site, they have an update & a Troubleshooting list to help with such problems.
