I was wondering how well the voice recognition works for the newer Samsung phones that don't need training. I've not had one of these yet, but the idea that they don't need a voice tag to dial someone from the phone book sounds like a good one. Do they match just a first name, or both first and last?

It recognizes what ever name you make the entry...

All recent Samsung's use the technology (voice signal)...

The new Sanyo 7400 also has the same kind of thing (althought not voice signal)...

i've noticed voicedial does a pretty good job of recognizing my entries (except for some of the friends cuz they have weird names). if it doesn't get if the first time, the secondary name is usually right on the money.

The voice commands on the MM A700 are great. There's a thread here that talks a bit about it: http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49107

By the way, I tend to have a bit of an accent and it still works well for me.

LOL, I just tried it today on my A620 and wow, it actually works, and I dont have to record any names. I just hit the left directional button, say name dial, and then the name thats entered in the phone book, it repeats the name i say in a female computer voice then connects, doesnt get much easier than that. My old N-400 I remember having to record a name for each one to do this. It also lets you just lookup phonebook entries and dial by just saying the digits, I made no extra pronunciation emphasis on the digits and it understood me perfectly. Pretty cool for me.

my mother has an a680 and I programmed a Chinese dialect using Romanization so that she can actually say the Chinese name into the voice recognition and it dials on the first try!

Unfortunately the Romanization that is displayed in her phonebook looks nothing like the English Spelling of their name...So it's a win/lose thing depending on whether you favor the use of the voice technology over the classic phone lookup, or not.

It's such a pity that the VI660 has beeping and other sorts of problems, otherwise i'd get that one for some add a phones.
