Has anybody used both phones? The reception on the 6601 is incredible. I may want to trade it for a treo because I don't like the 6601 screen...but I have to make sure the treo 650 reception is good.

keep the 6601, the treo reception sucks along with everything else such as its so called "much improved" camera quality.

Hmmmm
My reception is great and on my treo 600 was better than my 8200, not sure that counts for much. I have had no problems with reception and the camera is very much improved... your ignorance  me

So now we're comparing a $600 phone to a $300 phone? So no it doesn't count for much. And if you read what the OP said, he was comparing it to the 6601, (which last time I checked has no similarity whatsoever to the non PDA 8200) which has much better reception than the lowly Treo 650. And oh yeah, I've had the chance to take both home for a night and that is where I gathered my conclusion.
So now..your ignorance  me

Reception on the 650 is fantastic. Don't listen to jealous types who can't afford to purchase one of their own. The 6601 also has a nasty habit of screaming in your ear during incoming calls. The 650's screen is much better than the 6601.

Well, maybe you had a defective Treo650, because there are no bad signal problems that I'm aware of with it. I have not seen any other complaints as well. And yes, I was comparing the $600 phone to a $300 phone, why not if we are comparing signals between 2 different phones? We can compare signals between a 8200, 7400, a700, with a phone which has superior signal like say a Nokia which is much less than all of the above. So, why not compare the "signal" between the t650 and another cell phone?

Subjective, IMO the 6601 has a nicer screen, even with the increased resolution of the 650. Have not had a chance to side by side reception test, but I know my 6601 has the absolute best reception of any phone I have ever owned on SPrint, and I have owned pretty much all of them. Treo looks very nice for that type of owner, but the lame Palm OS and the exposed keyboard are just not my cup of tea. Plus the memory issues, bleh.

SpineDoc - Have you had any problems with phone calls. I have a 6601, which I am in the process of returning because I want to get the 6600 when it comes out. But while I was using the 6601, during one call (about 10 mins.), I had a beeping occurring about every 2 seconds. Very annoying. I never could figure out what caused it.

Thank God for someone with insight!

Doesn't sound good for the 6601. The huge size and low-res screen sealed the deal for my getting the 650. I'm not a huge Palm fan though.

This is what I have noticed w/ phone reception on the following phones.
Pls understand that each phone I am listing has been in my possesion for at least a week and each one was used under normal conditions and that the results are from this use.
I have one place that I work out of that is a Large metal building w/ an enclosed room that has the silver reflective insulation. I have noticed that phones I thought would be great at reception didn't work that well inside this room. Therefore, all results are posted from what I experienced inside this room.
Treo 600 - 1st one from 1 yr ago - No bars....searching for service...unable to make calls.
Sanyo 4920 - from 4 months ago - 1 to 2 bars....once in a while searched for service, missed a couple of calls and got VM notification....able to make/receive calls most of time.
Sanyo 7300 - from 1 month ago - 1 bar....alot of searching for service....able to make/receive calls some of the time. Alot of VM notifications from missed calls.
Kyocera 6035 - from 3 wks ago - 2 to 3 bars at ALL times. No missed calls or lost calls when on them. This phone worked Great! Was actually upset that I dropped it and killed the mic on it.
Samsung I-500 - from 2 wks ago (2 phones during this time) ....1 to 2 bars....little searching for service, able to make/receive calls w/o much problem. Actually impressed me, too bad the phones kept acting up on the Palm side of it. Same EXACT problems I experienced w/ the I-300 & I-330.
Treo 600 - from 1 week ago to now....1 to 2 bars....haven't searched for service yet, but have had a couple of calls get sketchy and had to go outside to make the phone happy, then able to come back inside w/ no further problems on the call. With this phone, I was in a doctors building and was in the elevator when my phone rang. I was able to answer the call, but told the other party to wait until I got off the elevator as they broke up a few times.
Overall, my Treo 600 is and has been an AWESOME phone and am so very happy I was able to "work" it out w/ the SPCS store to trade in my I-500 for it. I'll give a 1 month review on it in about 2 weeks and see how it has been doing.

Treo 600 - from 1 week ago to now....You got a Treo 600 a week ago, when you could have gotten a 650??? Or is this a typo? Not a criticism, but just a comment. Maybe SPCS screwed you, as the 600 is now supposed to be much cheaper than it was before the 650 was released.

The only two phones I can compare is the I-500 and the Treo 650, The 500 would drop calls every time I would enter into my building and go through the hallway leading to the elevator, about 100, needless to say I would end my calls before walking into my building, after this happened a couple times. Now with the 650, I can talk all the way down the hall and into the elevator to the 18th floor. Seems, at least with my experience the 650 has better reception than the 500. Also an aside for the I-500, if you live by hands free the 500 hands free jack seems to, at least with my experience, were out after a few months of use, I had replace it twice within a 1 year period. Now with the 650 I use the speakerphone all the time event though it seems to run though the battery fairly quickly, but it’s awesome when your in the car and don’t have the hands free in your ear.

Not really sure why people perpetuate this myth, but there was an initial review a while back that included a Treo600 and a PPC6601, or it may have been an XDAIII (same phone). When stacked together the 6601 was only a bit wider than the Treo, and actually thinner. Plus Im not really sure QVGA is "low-res".
Plus after reading a bit about the way the T650 compresses memory it seems the 64mb it has is really more like 16mb, bleh.
But hey, they are both great phones, just for different users.

The 6601 is both longer and wider. It's too big for me since I'd never go larger than the 650. The 650 is actually larger than I'd want, but I'm putting up with it.
The QVGA screen on the 6601 is lower resolution than the 650's screen since the 650 displays more pixels in a smaller area.
Audiovox promises a fix for the earpiece screaming on the 6601 and PalmOne promises a fix for the memory management issues on the 650. P1 is even giving away free 128MB SD cards in the interim.

If the 650 was thinner it would be more pocketable, for me the 6601 is very pocketable due to its shape. Plus the larger screen is so much nicer for apps, although I would love to see a 320X320 screen on my PPC6601. When you rotate the PPC to landscape mode web sites look awesome on that big screen.
