Let's try something here... if it works well, then maybe we can do something like it for future handset release notifications.

For the upcoming LG 325 handset, this thread is to let the public know when it is available.

If you purchase the LG 325 and have it in your hands -- please post to this thread and let us know when and where you got it.

If you've simply ordered it please do not bother posting. Only reply if you have it in your hands!

For all that are interested, click the 'Thread Tools' dropdown menu over this message and select the option 'Subscribe to this Thread' and on the next page, add the subscription for an instant notification by email.

The result: When someone posts a message to this thread saying where and when they got the handset, all of us who are subscribed will receive an email.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please send me a PM. Thanks!

Update 12/2/04: Thanks to Darkflight for posting this picture! Continuing to wait for a 'real' customer to have one in-hand.

Mine is at my house, so barring anyone stealing it from my enclosed side-door entrance, mine is essentially, "in-hand."

UPS Tracking shows it as "DELIVERED"

I've got mine.. activating now...

Initial thoughts: Tiny. Keys are a bit difficult or my fingers are fat.

Ok, just got off of the phone with Sprint.

Like I said, the thing is tiny. It'll take some getting used to the keys. It's also -very- light. It almost feels like a demo phone. Reception is fantastic. With my old phone, I would average about 2 bars in my office. I'm getting the full 5 while I sit here.

Display is clear and bright. Not the brightest I've seen, but very nice.

Sound quality is very good. I had to keep turning the thing down because it was so loud and perfect.

Bluetooth seems to be easy to set up initially, but I'm having trouble pairing it with my computer. (A PowerMac) I'll try later after it provisions itself.

The guy that helped me do the swap couldn't stop saying, "Wow, that's a NICE phone" As he was hanging up he seriously said "Congratulations". Kudos to Sprint for having some nice reps.

I agree with everything Jaypee has said so far.

Very small and light, which I like, though I do feel like I have fat fingers while I use it. I love the screen, clear and bright.

My phone was activated almost immediately - It rang to notify me of new voice mails about 30 seconds after I got off the phone.

I've got it paired with my iPaq 2210 with a DUN profile, and made my phone dial #777 from the PPC. I tried to access a web page but got a page can not be found or some other such error, and then my phone disconnected at 51 seconds into the connection. I tried again and had the same thing, though this time it disconnected 56 seconds. I'm going to try a few more things, hopefully I'll get it working!

Edit: Looks like something went wrong when I originally paired it. I paired the devices again, and in the devices list on the phone enabled DUN for my PPC. Dialed up and boom! Online:)

Jaypee, would you please post more info (when you have the time) about your successes/failures with the 325 and your PowerMac? As this would be my first BT phone, I'm curious how it works with iSync, if you can use it as a modem (via script like I've read about the T608), upload photos to Mac via BT, etc.

Mostly, I want to buy the phone if I can iSync my phone numbers from Address Book and/or Entourage. I'm seriously lazy about typing phone numbers. ;)

Much thanks. And congrats on the new phone.

I have a IPAQ h4355 and been using a cable connected to my RL2000 for awhile and I have been waiting for this phone for a long time. Have several questions that I hope you guys can answer.

1) I have the HP BT headphones for the h4355 and the sound quality is very good. But when I put the IPAQ in my pocket the headphones drop out. Apparently Bluetooth is sort of line-of-sight. Having said that, has anyone used there IPAQ whilst the phone is on their hip. Any problems. Slow speeds? Just curious.

2) Does it also work with your laptop? I would assume if it works with an IPAQ it also would work with your laptop.

3) Is the connection speed nearly the same as if the phone was directly connected to your phone?

4) How is the camera? Good quality pictures?

5) Can you transfer contact information from your laptop to the phone via bluetooth. My laptop has BT.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Paul J

My rebate eligibility kicks in January 1st. This will be a long month for me.

Should we start a thread on Bluetooth/Mac setup and troubleshooting? I expect the SE t608 owners have already learned a great deal about this, but this phone may pose new challenges. I would especially like to know if the old D-Link BT->USB adapter (DWB-120M) will work, or if I'll need to get the DBT-120 for DUN/iSync.

I had no luck trying (only once) to pair mine to the Palm T3.

On another note, my A500 would keep blinking if I didn't press anything after I got a text notification (to tell me I got an email). The 325 seems to illuminate for a few seconds, then goes back to dark. I like being able to glance at my phone without touching it to see if I missed any messages, etc. Anyone know if there's some reminder settings? Will the phone eventually blink again?

I got it to pair with my tower at work using a D-Link DBT-120 adapter, but that's about it. No browsing, iSync, and no luck with DUN, either. Of course, I'm not trying that hard at the moment as I'm setting up ringers, screen savers, etc. You know, the important stuff. :D

Tonight I'll try to get it set up with my iBook and the same adapter.

Oh yeah.. I love this phone!

Phone looks awesome. Kudos to SprintPCS for finally (!) releasing a Bluetooth phone that may be fully supported.

But no one has asked here yet, but are there any Vision restrictions with this new phone? Since pairing a phone to laptop/pda for internet is technically against the TOS, but the phone's manual clearly discusses DUN, what's Sprint's stance now?

Like the rumor with the T608, is there a special 15mb/month only Vision plan or anything?

If not, I may be ordering this today!

OK. Got the Palm T3 connected to the internet. But, I can't pair the 325 with the Palm. It's cool that I can use internet functions... but I was honestly expecting the internet NOT to work, but pairing TO work, so I'm a feeling little backwards. After first getting the Palm, all I wanted was a BT phone so I could get emails, browse the web on occasion, etc. Then I heard it was unlikey Sprint would allow such a thing. So, I was all prepared to be able to place calls by selecting contacts in the Palm, but not be able to browse the web. I guess I shocked and still trying to come to terms with not being able to pair the phone to the Palm. It seems to only want a GSM phone to connect to. Anyone know the "Init String" for the LG 325? That may be the solution.

A little hard to tell, there. That looks like a liter bottle. Then again, maybe the phone is just THAT small. I guess that's how it looks next to my 20 oz. Diet Pepsi bottle.

Ok, let me try to clear this up...

There are 4 settings in the Palm Communications section.
1.) Bluetooth
2.) Network
3.) Connection
4.) Phone

Bluetooth (1) just sets up the Palm settings, as far as "on" or "off," and discoverable, etc.

Network (2) Basically sets up a named profile for connecting via one of your connections (3).

While I can't technically get my connections (3) set properly for the LG 325, I can make the Palm dial #777 and connect to the internet via the BT connection. It took some playing around, but it works. I could check my settings if you need me to, but I can't remember them offhand. If you've ever tried connecting the Palm to anything like this, you'll remember how confusing it is.

(4) Phone is just for setting the default phone to use for dialing via the Palm.

***??
I HAD my Palm T3 working, now suddenly it "can't find modem" via the 325. This seems like the same thing that happened to me when I tried using my A500 as a modem. It worked a couple times, then it stopped. Is it possible that SPCS would flag an account, and if/when the person uses their phone as a modem, that functionality is disabled? Perhaps changing phones re-enabled it, and now it's turned off for this phone, too?

Maybe I'm just paranoid. I can swear that is what's happening.

EDIT: Rebooted the phone, seems to be back working again. Does this thing run on Windows or something? (Rebooting joke.)

slffl -- I really, really don't want to go off topic, but I'm really interested in this thread, yet I find your avatar to be disgustingly insensitive to those who lived under Hitler, who's family members did, or who have otherwise been affected by his legacy. Your use of it indicates that you are either grossly uneducated about Hitler and Nazi Germany or that you simply lack the tact and maturity to know any better. I hope it's the former.

Mods -- is there any way a member can disable another's avatar so that he/she doesn't have to see it? I recall JimmyJames' gyrating Luke Wilson also raised the ire of many members.

I haven't heard any reports about the one issue I care most about, reception. I live in a fringe area and the thing I appreciated most about the T608 was it's signal quality. With my LG on the way and my SE listed on e-bay, I'm kind of already committed. I just hope I'm not taking a step backwards in signal strength.

I'm not sure I understand the one-way speakerphone... basically, this means that if you press the OK button during a call, the speaker just gets louder? So, if there were a couple of people in the room and you wanted everyone to be able to hear, they could, but when someone wants to talk they have to put the phone close to their mouth?

If sprint really didn't allow the full speakerphone, that seems really dumb. Perhaps they should offer two versions, one with speakerphone and one without; I'd pay more for the speakerphone.

Also, I'm interested if anyone has used this phone in an area that experiences a lot of dropped calls... I'm debating 4050/325/7400, but what I'd most like to know is which would be best at holding a fluctuating signal... (my 4900 has no trouble finding a signal at my apartment, but it seems to fluctuate and the 4900 drops quite a few calls...)

First off, yes, I'm a huge nerd.

For anyone who makes their own "Screen Savers" (they should be called "Wallpapers," but, whatever) I made a PhotoShop template that shows where the different areas of the screen are on the LG PM-325.

http://resolutionart.com/sprint/LG325Screen.gif

Download the .psd file here:
http://resolutionart.com/sprint/LG325Template.psd

If you want to see this on your phone (in case you don't believe my measurements) I shared it on 3GWiz.com in the "Unclassified" category, image name is "LG PM-325 Template." The screen size is 128 pixels by 131 pixels.

Enjoy!

Haha, I was thinking that the PM325 might tide me over until such a phone became available, since I'm in bad need of a new phone. At first I was going to hold out for the Sanyo 5600, but I figure if I'm going to drop that kind of cash on a phone it'd better be for something EV-DO.

Almost. When you put it on speakerphone, the earpiece gets louder and the microphone is muted. Everyone can hear, but no one can talk. The only exception is when you call *2, then it works like a normal two-way speakerphone.

NO its not that Sprint didn't allow the full speakerphone, thats ridiculous. The one-way speaker is just that...a speaker...imagine your stereo, it's used for listening...that's what this is, you activate monitor mode and you listen, to voicemails or a lame ass conference call or whatever. No one can hear you talk...It's just for listening and its just one more way to tout a handset as being handsfree.
Then why are people saying it works as a 2 way when calling *2?

It is a CMOS sensor...and for future reference the lens has nothing to do with either CMOS or CCD, lenses are glass or plastic, glass being better and the latter being way shi**y. CMOS and CCD refer to the image processor.

Thats not correct. CMOS and CCD are referred as image sensors, not image processors. That function is left for the image processor: silicon wafer etched semiconductors, aka. microchip.

To summarize very shortly:

Light goes through the lens ----> on to the image censor (CCD or CMOS)---> then goes to the image processor----> then finally onto a removable media (SD, Memory stick, xD etc).

OK gang...after reading everyone's comments, I ordered mine today and will become a regular reader (and hopefully) contributer to this forum. I've been waiting for a decent bluetooth phone from Sprint for some time....although I admit that I have a barely used (for a couple of weeks) t608 that I used for a while but the battery life was so short that it didn't make sense. (anyone want to buy it...I better check Ebay for pricing---are they worth anything). I've been using the Treo 600, but I finally got tires of all it's quirks and went to a Sanyo 4920, which I absolutely love for basic phone functions.

Why, then am I considering the LG? One, I have a Dell x50v with bluetooth. I haven't scoured all sources, but I've not been able to find a cable to connect it to my Sanyo 4920. Two, I have a Dell 300m notebook with bluetooth. Three, although my '98 BMW doesn't have phone with bluetooth, there are sources that sell retrofit kits for it. Four, I would like a bluetooth headset without the cord.

I'll be reading how, or if, this phone works for any of these. If there are any recommendations for headset, please let me know. If anyone knows of any quirks with either the x50v or a laptop computer with the bluetooth, hopefully they will post them. The tricker issue will be the BMW retrofit with bluetooth, and I'm obviously not going to shell out the kind of $'s this requires unless I start reading that this phone works great for this. If anyone knows for sure that I can't accomplish any of these, please let me know.

As an aside...my son just upgraded his Treo 600 to a 650...he is as much of a nut as I am (and he used to work for Sprint). Said he may go back to the 600. The quirks were driving him crazy, and he said that aside from the better screen and bluetooth, there wasn't much difference. I'm sure there is a separate forum on the 650.

Okay, so I left early from work and met my ups driver so I could get my phone. I really can't tell any weight difference from my old 8100, maybe a few ounces lighter? Definitely feels a lot nicer in the hand. Screen is outstanding compared to the 8100. I must be doing something wrong because the pics I take don't look much better than with the 8100. Slide mechanism seems pretty substandard. It just doesn't feel like it really "locks" into place. I looked at the back with the slide open and I saw 2 metal strips with a gap between them. At the gap, the ends of the metal are bent upward. I think this is how they are holding it opened and closed. I think I will make a slight "modification". Other than that, it seems like a well built phone. Call me crazy, but I kinda like the blue color after being stuck with silver for so long. Haven't attempted to do any synching just yet. Forgot to charge my bluetooth headset. Doh! Wanted to see how that would work out. Oh well, always tomorrow for that. Reception, hmmm, how to judge? Well, I'm at my gf's right now in Windsor, ON. In the exact same spot in her house, my 8100 would be at 3-4 bars. The LG is getting 2-3, but made a couple calls and they were crystal clear. Earpiece sounds pretty good to me. That's my 2 cents worth. Everyone that got the LG today, cheers and enjoy, I know I am. For all those waiting or getting soon, have fun. This is a nice phone for $229. :D

Ok got mine today and I must say I am quite pleased to this point! The crystal clear ear piece is quite nice by the way I returned my mm7400 today as well. When I first opened my package up I was very shocked by the size of this phone. I heard it was smaller but wow this is pretty small, but then I held it up to one of my older phones and it is about the same size like was mentioned earlier flips do double when opened. I activated without problem made my first call and then it was like a bright light shining down on me. This earpiece is wonderful. I will need to get use to the keypad being so small I mean I have owned the a700 and then the mm7400 so it will take time. I like the menu looks very nice. The camera takes awesome pictures very nice. So I believe I have a keeper here at least until the next LG slider or the sanyo 5600 comes out.

You are understanding incorrectly then, all LG phones since the 5200 and the 5250 have had what is called monitor mode. It's LG's way of giving people the benefit of a speaker (freeing up your hands) without having to actually put a true speakerphone in.

Perhaps I do, but then why is it a speaker phone for *2 only? makes no sense.

having used the treo 600 for about a year now, I can you
its because of feedback.

On the 600, if you have the speaker volume to loud, the microphone picks up the sound from the speakers and the person on the other end of the line sometimes hears the sound cutting in and out while on speakerphone when you are speaking at the same time.

So for the 650, PalmOne placed the microphone in the front and lowered the max volume on the speaker to minimize this effect.

The design and acoustic properties of the lg 325 probably wasn't best suited to for two way speakerphone conversations so they so they made it one way except for calls to *2 because whenever you speak, claire stops speaking, so there is no feedback.

when the phone is closed the number shows up on the open part and is hard to see? You can set different ringers for people right? I hope the 535 comes out soon so I can decide between 325,7400,535.

I meant to say sensor in the last part of my post...but remember that CMOS stands for Complementary Metal Oxide SemiConductor...or processer as you have defined.

CMOS sensors are made just like regular semiconductors, hence the name. But that doesnt mean it is a processor in itself. All it does is receive photons from the subject, amplifies it, and sends the output data to the image processor where it manipulates and crunches the fine points (hexadecimal inputs from the sensor, location, matrix arrays, 0-255 color integer values, etc.)

CMOS sensors have one amplifier (converter that changes electric charges to voltage) per pixel, so they can perform signal amplification on a per-pixel basis. For this reason, CMOS sensors transfer image data faster than CCDs.

DOES IT SYNC WITH MICROSOFT OUTLOOK?

That would be HUGE for me

try using a free software called bitpm or something like that. It's talked about in these forums. just search for it.

I use it with my sanyo 4900 and hope to use it with my 325 when it gets here.

Ordered it yesterday afternoon, got a final order confirmation just a few moments ago, followed a few moments later by an email from eCare that the LG 325 is now backordered and that they did not have an exact date as to when they would get more.

"We receive shipments from our
supplier's daily, so it is possible that your item ship within the next
few days. Unfortunately, I am unable to promise a delivery date."

Looks like the 325 is pretty popular!

Dam, the LG 325 has some of you guys under its MYSTIC power. LOL! I had played with a 325 today at work. A volunteer like myself at the animal rescue shelter brought a LG 325 to work that he had gotten 3 days ago. Anyway the screen is great for an STN screen. The download memory is only 10xxkb that is too low compared to what the LG 5250 had 3xxxkb. I must say it is a nice phone for the price.

Does anyone have a clue as to why OBEX wasn't implemented? I am completely baffled as to why something so basic was left off. With the first bluetooth phone I got (T610, quickly returned) I though "Wow, I'll never have to put all my numbers into a phone again!"
Here's hoping for a firmware upgrade (not that it'll do me any good.. I plan on having one long before one would be released.)

If people COMPLAIN enuf to SPCS about this! Then SPCS may do a firmware update to put OBEX into the 325? Cuz of people complaining to SPCS is how the t608 was release. So, anything is possible if you put a boot up an arse or two. LOL!

Ok, I need some more technical advise, as you have read it seems that Mac OS X and the LG 325 don't really want to pair up. It is very weird actually, if you initiate the pairing from the computer, it appears it is paired with the phone but the computer does not detect any services on the phone so DUN is not accessable. Now if you try to initiate the pairing from the phone, the phone will say mid-pairing that pairing was unsuccessful and yet the computer thinks everything went honkey-dorey and has it listed under favorites but yet again, doesnt see the phone showing any services like DUN. Someone who is more of a bluetooth expert where do you think the fault lies, Apple or LG, because one of them hasnt implemented to spec Bluetooth, or the phone's bluetooth is version 1.2, but that shouldnt matter with the computer using 1.1 bluetooth

I forgot about DesignFlaw's report. I have an X50v on order so I wanted as much affirmation as necessary that this is going to work.

Design Flaw: Any more insights? How is it?

Well - I have it working on my laptop (Windows XP) and my iPAQ(HP 2210). Speed seems similar to the speed with the T608, though I won't say for certain until I test DUN when I have a better signal.

I don't get very good reception at home, and just testing now I was getting steady download rates at 3.2KB/sec using the 325.

I had absolutely no problems pairing my laptop and 325 for DUN, it worked just like it was supposed to :)

Nothing is wrong, they just didn't know what they're talking about.
It's going for $249.99 un-activated, out the door.. or $79.99 with new 2-year.
$99.99 with the 2-year upgrade mail-in rebate.

For those wondering when, 2nd week in december for most local Radioshacks.

I really like this phone. As happy as a pig in slop.

-Compact and light
-Sounds great on both ends
-Very nice screen
-Recessed screen means less change of scratching/damage - excellent.
-Looks slick (everyone wants to see if; Sprint store people and customers were 'oooooh")
-Fast menus
-Decent battery life
-Surprising good camera and adjustment features
-Durable - had my first drop to the pavement, and it's fine (small scuff, no big deal)
-Of course, Bluetooth (sooo much better than the T608)

I love how the keyguard kicks in once you close it; put in pocket and forget. I also like how you can use the phone without opening it up; super small.

Downsides: Speakerphone is monitor mode only, and no OBEX profile. These are no big issues to me, so I am not so affected.

This is defintely one of my "wow" phone over the many years I've been with Sprint. I rank it up there with the super slim Sanyo 6000 and Motorola v.92 "Vader". People are falling all over themselves to play with it..."wow, wow, what is that...cool"

For those that have this phone, can you please confirm or deny that the phone has the "universal" auto power socket with the small round barrel connector? I've seen a post that sort of implies this but I'd like some confirmation if possible. I hope I can finally get some use out of that auto power adapter I got for the T608 which I later returned.

Gosh!! Now I am in limbo, Good reception, nice look and build, decent camera, but why cripple the Bluetooth to be used as a modem but that is against the rules then leave out OPEX so now I can’t transfer files, calendar info, phone numbers, business cards and pictures from my PDA or laptop. I would have thought it would be the other way around with Sprints MO.

OBEX is the bluetooth "OBject EXchange" profile. It is required to transfer files and objects between bluetooth devices. It is used to transfer pictures, ringtones and schedules from a computer to a phone. As it is, the 325 won't support OBEX and thus no syncing.

I have a question. I am a sprint customer since Nov 2002. I am currently in a plan which has 300 minutes and unlimited vision and I pay only $35.
I am interested in buying this phone. Will I have to change to one of their current plans to get the $150 rebate ? I really do not want to lose the plan I am in. I occassionaly connect my laptop to the internet using the n400 phone.

FYI. Amazon has 50 rebate for the LG-325 in addition to the $150 rebate from sprint. They don't have the phone in stock yet, hopefully they will have it soon.

Also what is the difference between this phone and LG MM-535? Anybody know ?

Going based on the MM designation, it prolly takes videos in addition to pics, has a 176x220 screen (which is larger), supports AAC ringtones, and supports streaming audio and video.

Also based on pics, the keypad slides out from underneath, and the display is always exposed.

My 325 is on it's way and I'm not sure but I probally will try out the 535 when it comes out. I really would like to keep my next phone at least 6 months. lol You can set screensavers that you get of the internet for caller id pictures on the 325 right? That would be funny if you can see goofy screensavers that fit the entire screen on the 535. Probally the only time that I will be sliding the 325 down is when I showing a friend there caller id picture.

Strangely, mine was wonderful the first day, now it seems kinda line-of-sight. If I turn my ear away from the phone, it breaks up a little. Maybe it's my thick skull. Other than that, I think it's way better than having a corded headset.

So, if I think of it that way, and don't expect it to reach into next rooms and whatnot, it's great. It isn't as good as the Jabra Multi-adapter was, but, it's also not running from its own separate power source, so I assume it's just not as powerful.

It comes with the phone, battery, charger and manuals.

I'm trying to find the specs on the extended battery. The main battery is the same as the LG VX-3200, but the extended battery for the 3200 requires a larger battery door, which doesn't look like it'll fit the 325. I don't want to buy an LG battery for $59 if I can find a suitable generic replacement for less than $20 on eBay.

I tried searching and didn't have time to read all 15 pages so forgive me if this has been discussed somewhere else.

What version of Bluetooth is the PM325? I have a Treo 650 and thinking of returing it because the Bluetooth is completely useless in a WiFi environment because of static. The Treo uses Bluetooth 1.1, and 1.2 is supposed to minimize the effects of WiFi interference.

Thanks!

Thanks. It appears that the 325 uses Bluetooth 1.1.

Does anyone have any experience with BT headsets yet? I have a Jabra 250 that's useless with the Treo 650 due to static. Has anyone used one with this phone yet?

Thanks!

so 325 is basically better in almost everyway than the T608...except the speakerphone and OBEX.

but when you say, "Bluetooth (sooo much better than the T608)" - can you be specific what the advantages are?

very nice mini review and TIA :)

Yes, the 325 is much, much better than the T608.

The Bluettoth in my T608 was flakey, and often led to dropped connections, and phone lockups.

The 325 has been a breeze.

My .02 the PM325 not a GR8 Phone! :eyebrow:

The phone seems alright, But considering all the hype and excitement, I found this to be more a damper than a charmer.

While I was setting it up trying to hold it on one hand, the thin light slider wasnt of much help. I think this design wouldnt last, also becos of the this weight distribution ration, I think if this phone slips from a good height, chances of breakage is high.

I dont have Vision yet and am yet to configure the BT and pair it to my Laptop.

For those of you who are looking at the other phones, I am sure you will not regret it. And for those who want to wait...Sprint LG & others may already be working on better models!

I'm not ready to say the 325 reception is better than the T608. At this point I feel the T608 was notably better though the 325 seems to be in the same league.

I've used my 325 with my Bluetrek V1.2 (not G2) headset. I can voice dial from the headset without touching the phone. The sound quality seems fine to me, certainly as good as the T608.

I've also paired this phone with my iPAQ 1945 and a Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle.

Everyone knows by now that Dial-Up Networking and Wireless Headset are supported. Object Exchange (OBEX) is not. I should also point out that the basic serial data profile is not supported either. You can not establish a serial data connection and send "AT" commands or attempt to use BitPIM software. In contrast, the T608 showed up as two serial data ports, a DUN gateway, and an audio gateway.

That's a major disappointment for me. The only way you are going to get files (or contacts) into this phone is through an actual data cable (or possibly over the air). Again I throw my hands in the air and scream "Why?"

The charger uses a tiny barrel connector (rare but not impossible to find). It's rated output 5.0 Volts, 1 Amp. I've already swapped it successfully with a Samsung charger (pn TAD077JBE). It's the same as the travel charger that comes with the SE T608.

The T608 never had MO SMS. This was one of the big reasons I wanted the 325. I'm disappointed with the implementation. For example, one thing I like to do a lot is send a quick "I'm on my way now" message to my wife (I'm always running late). If I put her first in my phone book and make that message the first Pre-set Msg, the key sequence ends up like this: Menu-2-OK-OK-Down-Down-OK-Done-Next-OK-Mode-Up-Up-OK-OK-OK-Send. That's 17 key presses (minimum) to send any message. I suppose I could replace the first "Menu-2" with a shortcut key. I could also go through the phonebook instead of the Messaging menu option, I think that saves another stroke.

Thankfully, it's easier to reply to an SMS, it goes like this: Reply-OK-[message]-OK-Send.

Another annoyance is that the SMS editor always starts in "Abc" mode. That's just dumb. The first thing I have to do is press Mode-Down-OK to switch to "Word" (Tegic T9) every time.

Accessing symbols is also painfull. For example, to type :// you have to press Mode-Down-Down-Down-OK-3-Mode-Down-Down-Down-OK-Next-2-Mode-Down-Down-Down-OK-Next-2. That's 20 keystrokes. It should have been Mode-3-3-Mode-3-Next-2-Mode-3-Next-2 for 11 keystrokes. The point is, there is no keypad shortcut for the five options on the Mode menu. I don't know why they weren't labeled 1 through 5.

When in "abc" mode, many phone will allow you to press and hold a key to get the number. Not the PM325. You have to press the 9 key five times to get a "9". It should have been a simple press and hold to get a "9".

There is no SMS thread view. This is a really nice feature on the Treo 600. I wish the LG had it.

Fortunately, the URL field for a contact is quite long (73 characters). That allows me to use the http://apgap.com/messaging.php form with plenty of stuff pre-filled in. The T608 had a much shorter field.

As I've pointed out on other phones, it's better to save URLs in the phonebook than to use the bookmark feature in the browser. When you press the Web key, you have to wait for the browser to load the last page before you can even get to the bookmark menu to load the page you actually want. From the phonebook, you can select any contact's URL and the browser will immediately open to that page. It's a bit quicker. I've never understood why phones don't allow off-line bookmark editing.

I found the startup/shutdown animations to be excessively cutesy for my tastes. What is that, a white baby seal? Thankfully you can turn off the sound. I haven't found a way to turn off the cartoon. I also hate the giant happy face every time you send a text message. The T608 was more professional.

It's anybody's guess, but it seems likely. When you select that option the phone does attempt to exchange data with a remote server (the Up/Down arrow icons flash).

HOw does one go about "activating" the phone if they get it shipped directly to their house?

Thanks for the great write up wFrantz. I would like to ask you directly if the BT headset has a lot of static. I'm not sure if you've used a Treo 650 or not, but the BT headsets are basically unusable due to static. We all just thought the problem was with WiFi interference, but it also just seems to be a weak implementation of BT because there is also static during normal use outside of a WiFi connection. Can you comment on this with the 325? Is BT usable in a WiFi environment, or does it cause a lot of static? Is static an issue at all with the BT headset and the 325? This is an important thing for me, and one of the reasons why I'm considering returning my Treo.

Thanks!

I haven't tried holding a long conversation over my bluetooth headset yet. I have a WiFi router at home and didn't notice annoying static for the few seconds I used it. I will have to try setting the phone next to the router and making a BT call. My initial impression is that it's better than the T608 which had limited BT range and audible static at more than 6 feet. I have not used a Treo 650. My Bluetrek headset is pretty cheap. There are probably better ones out there.

Other stuff...

There's no message waiting LED on this phone. If you miss a call, or have voice mail, or a new text message, you get one beep, a message on the display and that's it. What's worse, is that the screen turns off after a few seconds of inactivity. That's useless. There's no repeating indicator that you missed an important event. If anybody figures out better settings, let me know.

Here is the LG PM325 RDF file from Sprint:

This has been mentioned a couple times around here. I, too, noticed this right away. I wonder if this is something they can change via firmware. I'm sure if enough people point it out, they could implement it in future firmware releases.

There's no message waiting LED on this phoneIt is particularly sad because the two soft keys have a big red and green LED on them to indicate charging(?). Those LEDs are bright. It would be nice if they flashed when you had a message waiting.

If you look at the RDF file on this phone, There is a FOTA client from Bitfone listed. This is from Bitfone's website:
Bitfone's Mobile Variance Platform (MVP) is a standards-based, OTA software management server for mobile phones. It allows you to discover which operating software is resident on devices, update firmware images and software files on demand, and proactively target subscriber groups for software maintenance and upgrade campaigns.FOTA is "Firmware Over The Air" so it does indeed look like you can transmit new firmware to this phone.

It's also sad to note that "text/x-vcard" and "text/x-vcalendar" are not listed as accepted MIME types. The vformat types are accepted on the T608. If the PM325 supported these we could have at least sent contacts to the phone over the air.

The T608 supports WML 2.0. The PM325 stops at WML 1.2.

The T608 supports downloadable Ericsson themes (application/vnd.eri.thm). The PM325 has no equivelant.

If anyone cares, Teleca (my employer) wrote the web browser in the T608 (Obigo AU-MIC). The LG uses a browser from Openwave.

The "bug list" is a little off. BT works great on this phone. Not sure why some people can't figure out how to pair their phone. Maybe it's an OS X problem. No freezes or BT unresponsiveness here.

While I can make it use #777 to get internet on my Palm T3, I can't make it actually pair and be able to have the T3 do the dialing for voice calls.

Remote dialing uses OBEX. In other words, it won't work.

The #777 connection timeout is about 5 seconds. If you stop exchanging data for 5 seconds, the 325 drops the #777 call and goes back to idle. In practice I find it still works OK for web surfing from my iPAQ. My phone will go back to idle but when I click a link the phone says "dialing #777" then sets up the call, retrieves the page, and goes back to idle. It all happens kind of quick, but I never had such shananigans with my T608.

I ordered mine last week as well. The phone is indeed backordered now, as I mentioned several pages back. I called today and was told that the next shipment would arrive on Wednesday (12/8) and that I could expect delivery 3-5 business days after that. Funny that SPCS already charged my credit card for it. I am not amused by that so I cancelled my order. I'll wait to buy it until I see it in a store and hear a few more reviews about it.
