Hi, have you guys seen the new p735 on tmobile's site? That thing is kool. My contract has been over for almost a year now and i'm thinking of switching to t-mobile. The $499 tag on it is too high though, maybe wait for rebates. What you guys think?

one word: overpriced

I see you are in OK. If I were you I would NOT go with T-Mobile just for a phone especially that one its way overpriced considering EDGE is coming soon. Also I dont recall their reception to be that great there. You might want to ge tone for the trial period but if you switch just for a phone well you'll be back soon.

GSM is great as long as there's coverage. i'd be 100% certain it works everywhere you want to go. don't settle for anything less.

Im just saying if you travel alot you won't have that good coverage. I have better coverage with Sprint. I have had T-Mobile (Powertel/Voicestream) since '96 and its great when you do have coverage. But no carrier has 100% coverage especially T-Mobile. I am not 100% with either Sprint or T-Mobile but prefer Sprint. Your mileage may vary. If you stay around cities alot I say try it. The cheapest retail that the P735 will probably ever goto is 424.99.

Thanks for your replies. The thing is I wanted a GSM phone since I will be on a long vacation in Vietnam; i wanted a phone with a sim card so it will work there. Sprint does have good service here though.

It is a very feature loaded phone...
*1.3MP camera
*Video capture
*Swivel/flip design
*IrDA
*MP3 Player
*Removable mempory slot (MMC)
*176x220 display...
And the price...well if Cignular can get away with marketing a $599 Motorola with less featues than this based on its design, then why does this one have to be labled overpriced...? It offers many features with a cool design...

The only thing I don't like about that phone is the display; 1.8" seems a tad small.
One thing I love is Samsung's amazing interface. Cool icons, cool menus, intuitive shortcuts. Hopefully this one has a similar interface to the a700.

I wonder if you can use those buttons and such with the large screen facing out? It would be cool to be able to make calls, scroll thru pictures, etc. like that. I know on the Samsung d415 (also T-mobile) you can't.

What do you mean...? With the screen folded with the internal screen revealed...?

I mean with the big screen facing out and the little screen facing in. Like in the picture on the right, but all the way closed instead of half open.

Personally I wouldn't touch T-MOBILE ever again. I switched to them for 1 year. I came back to Sprint. The service sucks everywhere.

Be warned if you are travelling that MOST Samsung phones are Dual Band. So if you haven't been there I would check the frequencies. I would think this phone is 850/1900 or 900/1900.

Looks like a cool phone. The screen size is the same, but the resolution is notably higher, so... meh. I'd say you're better off with a nice A700.

That is a bold and completely inaccurate statement
Id second that.
I wouldn't switch to any provider just to get a certain phone. Wait a little while and there will most likely be a Sprint version of that phone (I know there is a Verizon version being considered at least...Sprint may follow suit).
However, If you really want to try it out, buy the phone and get a new number (dont make the switch permanent) and use it for 14 days, 30 days, however long tmobile lets you try it out for before being stuck with it. When the time comes to make a decision to keep or return it, either pay for the service you used and return the phone and cancel the tmobile account, or cancel the new line at tmobile, then port your Sprint number over to tmobile so that way you can keep your old number from Sprint.
What I'm saying basically is dont just blindly cancel Sprint and jump to Tmobile. Try it out before making a major switch like that. Personally, I wouldn't switch from a carrier that I'm pleased with just to get a particular phone. If you have problems with Sprint and aren't pleased with them, sure try someone else. If you're pleased right now, you most likely wont be more pleased with a different carrier.

I once thought about switching to T-Mobile. Everyone I know who has it warned me and recommended that I didn't get it. They say their service sucks when they can pick up a signal.
However, things may have changed. I've been more happy with Sprint now since they began offering MO-SMS.

if you're going to spend that much on a phone here, why not just go there and buy an unlocked one? I was in HK this summer and man(!) did they have cool phone from all different places.
Anyway, my favorite that isn't offered here is the Siemens M65. Orangey.

That is a bold and completely inaccurate statement
Inacurate? It's very accurate. I know 5 people who went to T-mobile they left them after 1 year and went either to Sprint, ATT or Cingular and now are happy.
T-Mobile service sucks. Drop outs, echoing phone calls, vmail never telling you got mail, etc. It's common problems.

your original statement was that TMobile's coverage was bad everywhere. Really? you've been to everywhere? what color was the sky in everywhere?
hyperbole is a bad strategy in defending your viewpoint.

So how long did you have service with them for?
Tmo doesn't have the best coverage but they do good in major metro areas. Sprint service sucks **** in my area so once I switched to T-mobile it's been all fun and games. Now I get great reception anywhere I go, a super cool-MPcamera with video/QVGA CGS 256k color display/SD card-having phone and a ton of minutes for less than what Sprint was getting from me.
I loved Sprint until the service didn't work in my house. If you have a problem with their service, switch. If you have a problem with the phone, just get another phone.

Went to a T-Mobile store to check out the phone, they had just gotten some in this morning. It is quite a piece of work. The ONLY negative I saw was the size of the screen. It is very small.

Well, my city is the 8th largest city in the US. And it sucks here. I had it for 1 year, my friend had it for 3 years now he has Sprint. When we went on trips, 90% of the time on the road his phone would not work. But my Sprint still was so he had to use it. We have been to a lot of places all over the US. I will never use T-mobile again or recommend them.

Well then you should be calling Cingular's voice network sucky...they share the SAME network with them in a number of states...In California for example, T-moible uses Cingular's service...

but that is not what you said. You said it sucks everywhere, which is incorrect. I can attest the fact that TMO works great on the west coast, and in some cases it works where Sprint does not. Blanket statements never make a person look very bright.

Yeah that sums up the phone very nicely. Great (but small) screen, cool interfaces, mp3 player, and the ability to put the large display on the outside and still utilize the menus and functions via the touchpad. If that screen was just a little bigger, I would be tempted to jump ship as well.
