I am considering using AirIM for AOL Instant Messenger, but am curious as to how it works. I recently came from T-Mobile where many of their phones had built-in AIM applications that simply used SMS for sending and receiving messages. I understand that AirIM, however, uses data: how does this differ? Do you have to connect to Vision in order to use it? Does this force you to miss calls? How are you notified of incoming messages if the application is closed? I just am not clear on how this program differs from WAP AIM that is horribly slow and inconvenient. I wish Sprint had SMS-based AIM messaging!
Thanks,
igarvey

Its a program, it connects to the internet and then logs you in. Then all your IM's are sent directaly to their server, which is then sent to your phone. So, yes it does use vision, but it is much faster and much much much more efficent than sprints WAP based AIM. But no, you cannot take incoming calls while the program is running, which sucks. Also, without the program running, your no longer signed on to AIM, so you wont be notified of anything.
We all wish sprint would jump on the bandwagan and have SMS based IM or have IM forwarding. But Sprint currently dosn't support those things. So, I guess well have to deal with what we have.
You can download a trial version of AirIM at their website, I highly recomend that you try it before you buy it.

Ok, so why was my post deleted? I had told him exactly what markm said but in a shorter length post.
