I got to play with one of these phones at the Sprint Confrence in Michigan, cool looking phone, all the upcoming LG models that were there are all slider phones. Not sure how much I have faith in the slide lasting as long as a normal flip. I've got an entire full color 3 page book on all its features and such.

It is $229.99, I am looking at today's Radio Shack Sunday insert. Titled "Give the gift of wireless from Radio Shack!" SKU# 17-2619.

I went to Radio Shack, and the lady there said she called all around the nation. The only response she could get is that somewhere in NY someone said they'd get it in about 2 weeks. Nothing clear obviously, but if you wanted a time frame just to satisfy your needs... Dream about 2 weeks.

11-14-2004, 04:51 PM
Well that page shows a $30 "web special," so it's actually $219 from their site. I've seen phones offered for less at retailers than from Sprint many times, so I'm sure the Radio Shack price will stand (considering it's been printed in millions of flyers.)
Ugh, 2 year agreement required to get the $30 off. I guess I'll be paying $229 at RatShack.

I went to my Radio Shack in Corona, Ca. and the girl there said she is starting a list for people who want the phone. She will call when they get in, and it will be first come, first serve. She was also cool, and said she is authorized to give me a rain check in case the phone shows up after the ad runs out. I will keep this place posted on how things go.

A QVGA screen (or at least 176x220) , a video camera, multimedia, a megapixel camera, perhaps a flip, or a slider that serves some purpose (perhaps there's a way to autolock the keypad when it slides down) , an mp3 player, etc. ?
Not to rip on this phone entirely... I really would have to use it. If the slider can lock the keypad automatically, that's cool!

most sliders enable keyguard as soon as you slide it up/down. I know the 325 does

They won't be at all. They will have the vi660, pm8200 and mm7400 until at least march 2005. Then after that the only change might be to replace the vi660 with another small cheap color flip. Then that lineup will last until at least may 2005.
So odds of Costco picking up the PM325 are effectively zero.

Hey,
I like a lot of people have been waiting for awhile for this phone to be released. I just have a question, is there a way to find out if this phone is 100% compatible with a 2004 Lexus LX470 with the bluetooth phone system? Can I find out by looking at the specs of the phone, or checking at some website or is it just a buy it and try it situation? The reason I ask is because I purchased the t608 because it had bluetooth but that phone is not 100% compatiable all the time. So, just seeing if there is any other way to know if the LG 325 is going to be 100% compatible without purchasing it first.
Thanks for the help :)
I would say take your lexus to the sprint store and make the sales rep come out to the parking lot with the phone and earn his money by showing you. Chances are, he/she won't have a clue, and then you can validate your impressions yourself.
PS. Jealous, I want a Lexus too! :)

Here is what I got from Sprint today after asking about the availability and features of the 325:
---------------------------------------------------------
First Reply from Sprint about the LG and Bluetooth:
Thank you for writing back with your account information.
I regret to inform you that currently we are not offering any
bluetooth-enabled handsets. The Sony-Ericsson T608 handset has been discontinued. We will be shortly launching another bluetooth-enabled handset. However, due to competitive reason, I will be unable to tell you the exact date of launch. Be assured whenever we launch the handset, we will inform you through high profile promotion.
You can choose from the wide variety of handsets offered by us.
To view all our handsets, simply click on the following hyperlink:
http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/P...ries/Phones.jsp
-----------------------------------------------------------------
My Reply:
Not to be a pest but clearly the LG325 is in the pipeline:
http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/P...lectSkuId=lg325
All I need to know is if Bluetooth will be crippled on the above phone or whichever Bluetooth phone eventually makes its way to the market. I would prefer to stay with Sprint, but it is difficult when I am unable to get information about the products you offer.
Furthermore, the T608 is still available for purchase at 866-PCS-AUTO. However, I was told I can't use my $150 upgrade rebate on this phone. Why should I have to pay full price for this specific phone? It simply shouldn't be this hard.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Second Reply from Sprint:
I appreciate you for contacting again.
I am so sorry for the incorrect information. Be assured that the
bluetooth technology will run perfectly on LG325.
Yes, the mail-in rebate of $150.00 is not applicable on the Sony
Ericsson T608. I will suggest you to go for LG325, as that is a better
handset with more features.
Have a nice day!

Here is a response from our Corporate Sprint Rep. We are in a smaller market in South east Washington State:
Hi John,
I received a reply from our local inventory gal. She had a conference call with Corporate and Kennewick is scheduled to have this phone by late November/early December. The phone will be available thru our 800 number sooner, so you can go that route. They can still offer you the $150 rebate with a 2 year renewal and ship the phone to your home. This might be your quickest route.
I will let you know when I find out more info!!!

well... to expand on my post (now that I have some more time...)
Last night I called in to find out which of my 6 phones are availiable for the 18 month upgrade program. After I found out that the number I am using was elligible I inquired about the pm325. The lady (a very nice one from Texas) searched for about 5 minutes of hold time... "you didnt mean a 3205?" "No... the 325... not a Nokia, an LG."
So after about 5 minutes, she came back and had it availiable on her screen... I wasnt able to order, because of my battery of my phone dying... (it had been a long day)...
However, this may be helpfull (dont ask me how... but i just thought I would say it anyways) ..... she was not from the "purchase new phones and services" option from the automated menu... she was from the "existing Sprint PCS customers" option.....
and damn me for not writing down her name....

I've called and spoken to 3 different operators today. None of them have ever heard of LG nor are they at all familiar with the PM-325 model, and are especially dumbfounded when I say "bluetooth". There are only like 20 different phones Sprint carries. Don't they send out a memo or something? Doesn't the company educate their employee's on the products they are selling?
Anyway, 3 different operators and 3 different answers as to when the 325 will be available for purchase. So far anytime between yesterday and the beginning of December.

No, it is not a bogus number. I know it's the activation phone number, but you can ask Claire for "phone sales" and you're directed to sales rep. Anyway, doesn't matter, because I just called back to order the phone (I figured i'll worry about rebate later) and the rep I spoke to this time says it is NOT yet available for sale. I explained to her that I had just called less than 1 hr ago and had been told it was available. She said not available. I can't believe I was told yes and less than an hour later no! The salespeople have one primary objective- to sell phones!
Now if they tell you there is going to be a newer bluetooth
model next week that doesn't help accomplish their objectives.
Sprint should just have a system where you can place orders in advance of the release date.

Yeah, so they try to sell you what they DO have now, rather than risk you buying from someone else once you hang up.

My reply was in reference to a reply of a posting I made previously where I thought it was crazy that the operators have no information on up and coming hardware, release dates, etc... Most I spoke with had never even heard of the company, LG, let alone the pm-325. There are only like 20 phones sprint offers; it isn't like they have to remember 31 flavors at baskin Robins, but those pimple faced retards don't seem to have a problem.
Ok, I'm an operator/sales person at Sprint. That's my figgin dead-end job. I would probably read sprintusers.com... I would probably talk to my coworkers about things like customers calling up and asking about something my company is going to sell, it's even on my companies web site, but I haven't got a ****ing clue what they are talking about. I think I might feel a little dumb or be a little mad that customers know more about my job than I do.
that's all I'm trying to say.

I feel EXACTLY the same way. An example is when you go into any computer / electronics store and ask a question. When the salesperson's first move is to check the PRINTED PRODUCT INFORMATION TAG, you know you already know as much (if not more) than they do.
Either Sprint employees are dumb, uninterested, or they've been sworn to secrecy.

So what you are saying is. The Sprint operators are deliberately withholding information from me when I ask them specifically for the PM-325, because they think they can sell me a different model?
Does that make any sense?
Yes. They are insiders with more information than we do.
They have access to a corporate email system which briefs
them on selling points and phones to push out the door first. Try asking them you don't know what phone to get.
First they'll ask if you would like vision. Then they'll probably ask you what price range. If you say you dont care then they'll push the highest priced model they can
and offer the discount if you're the new customer. And
they are tracked on how many phones and plans they sell each day.

This lady asked me three times who the manufacturer of the pm325 is. I told her "LG". I had to stop and tell her there is an electroncis company named, LG. Just like Sony or Samsung or Sanyo, except it doesn't start with an "S", but rather an L, hence, LG. Believe me, she had never heard of an LG. And as for the local stores, only the management have access to the corporate email system. I don't know about the operators in the big call centers, and what they have access to, but wouldn't you figure they would at least get an email about up and coming products?

Its quite possible she was sent an email or memo and just
didn't take the time to read it. I am absolutely sure that
Sprint trained her in some sort of way. When I first signed up with Sprint, the lady over the phone sounded like a professional salesman.
She said stuff like "We're offering this deal today I cant be sure if such a good deal will still be around tomorrow" and "this is Samsung's top of the line phone we're the only ones carrying it right now" and "Many of our customers are happy with the crystal clear call clarity"
of course all this took place about two years ago, so its quite possible Sprint cut short the sales training program by now or are just hiring order takers and not salesman.

2- Any ideas which markets would be getting them in stores first? I live in Idaho, and know that the Sprint stores and Radio Shacks dont even have them listed as an "upcomming" phone... however, for the thanksgiving weekend, I am in Los Angeles... I figure what a better place to find such a thing as a bluetooth phone for sprint with all the tech freaks out here.

Its a good thing that its STN because an active matrix screen would have drained the battery too much. The battery would need to power both the wireless and bluetooth signals at the same time. They could have given the phone a bigger battery to power an active matrix screen but that would increase its weight and size. I love that the phone is only 3.3 ounces!
As for what markets get the phone first...I suspect major metropolitan cities have the highest likelihood. Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago...etc. Although, this phone is supposed to be rolled out nationwide at the same time.
I suspect the delays were because Sprint had to build up enough inventory to be able to provide the entire country with this phone or maybe they didn't want this bluetooth phone cannibalizing the sales of their bluetooth Treo 650.

Oh man, this is no reason. My 4500 lasts longer than this phone (according to specs) and has 2 active matrix screens and weighs only .5 ounces more. There are many phones with the same specs that also use a TFT screen. I'm saying the reason they use them is because it gives them more money in their pockets.

It isn't like I'm going use the phone to watch Sopranos or anything, so I don't know how much I care; however, being able to view in different lighting situations is a big deal. I use my phone to check baseball scores, weather, read news, etc.

I checked the two largest Sprint stores here in Atlanta about an hour ago. They don't have any. Unfortunately, the people you get to speak with are usually not the most knowledgeable ones. Matter of factly, one of them didn't even know it was coming out.
This brings up a good point and something that Sprint, as a company, should address. There ought to be an official (or perhaps a web page) at the company that releases new phone information/arrival info on a daily basis. Simply put up a web page the the very latest info available on any particular day. If a date changes, change the arrival date with a one liner stating why or the problem that's being addressed. It sure would make me more "connected" to Sprint. It wouldn't cost them hardly anything. To make this successful though, it's got to be managed by a person that's in on the decision making. Are you listening Sprint?
Some enterprising exec should take this on as a mission and make a name for yourself. If you don't think it'd be popular, just stand back and count the page hits! There are at least 3 popular web sites that "scrounge" for this info almost daily. Step up to the plate Sprint!

EXACTLY.
When I got my A500, I was all thrilled to be one of the first people with a color screen on my phone. I made wallpapers and uploaded them, I would change my wallpaper every few days or so... Then, it dawned on me: I spent $300 on a PHONE that had a color screen. It's just a PHONE, first and foremost. I've begun to think of it more as a tool and less of a toy.
With Bluetooth on this phone, I'll be able to use my Jabra BT200 ear piece without the multi-adapter, and answer calls without touching the phone. This is quite a nice convenience for driving, especially here in NY State where we can get a ticket for using a phone while driving.
I honestly couldn't care less if this phone had a (nicely visable) monochrome screen, and for all I care they could remove the camera. Sure, it's cool and maybe I'll use it in those spontaneous moments when you "need" a camera (like when you happen across a celebrity or see something so interesting that you HAVE to share).

You nailed it here! I share your feelings completely with this. I honeslty wish they wouldn't have thrown a camera on this phone as all the rumors about where you can't have them. But I've never expereinced something like that because I still have an old A460. But like you, I use the Jabra BT200 and I'm excited about the fact that I won't have to carry the adapter around attached the phone.
This is the only phone I have (no landline) and to me it's merely a communications tool. I'm on the thing all the time and the BT headset has become a must have! It'll be cool if I can get my T2 to dial the phone as well as I've got tons of contacts in the thing. I don't know how I'm going to transfer my phone book from the A460 to the 325....may just have to manually add them (that'll suck!)..I don't have any cable or software for the phone...allthough if they package the 325 with a USB cable I may be able to just grab everything from my OE contacts???
Anywho, sorry for the ramble, I'm bored waiting for this phone!!!!!!

I'm sure that Sprint had a few hundred units available for sale but didn't want lg 325 cannibalizing sales of treo 650.
Even then, they should have released the 325. From a marketing standpoint, it just makes sense- release a few units and have them be sold out to make people realize what a hot phone it is.
It is truly Sprints loss, because of the massive traffic in Sprint stores today. People who wander in the store will see the demo bluetooth phone and might decide to wait for more stock to arrive rather than going to competition for the bluetooth.
It would wise for Sprint to quickly take advantage of the Cingular/Att merger confusion and pull out all the stops and put out their newest stuff and most attractive offers and discounts.

my brother in law has an LG on Verizon... it is one of the new ones out.. and he loves it... I kinda like it too. No camera, but a speakerphone that is clear as a bell, and the ringers are the clearest I have ever heard. The only one clearer that I have heard is my friends Motorola v600 on ATT.
The LG my bro in law has was manufactured around the same time the new 325 was... so there is a possibility that the features are close to the same... except of course for the bluetooth, slider form factor, and the camera...
His screen is really clear and has a true full duplex speakerphone.
besides the speakerphone, I hope that the new 325 is as nice.

The problem is not LG. The Problem is ATT! ATT has to worst coverage in the US. LG is a great company. I was just over in Europe (where everything is bluetooth) and even the LG TV's looked amazing. My girlfriend and a few of my friends have LG phones from Sprint and Verizon and they never had any problems. However, no matter what type of phone you have with ATT, you will have a problem.

Today's latest answer was the first time I actaully was quoted a date, November 30th was the day the lady said. I just laughed and asked her if that was November 30th 2005 or 2006.

So I called today and the guy said the LG PM-325 is for sale. He took my information and told me, since I have a business account, that someone will call me back to confirm the order. That was about 4 hours ago and nobody has called me back yet.

Dropped by the Radio Shack by home and they claimed the phone would be in on Friday (Dec. 3). Dropped by the local Sprint store and they said "if it's not on the Sprint phone list, it ain't available". Losers. The lady hadn't even heard of sprintusers.com . Guess I'll check the shack next weekend.

I just now called the Sprint sales number off that PM-325 page and no luck. I was told by the woman that it may be in this Friday - but there is no guarantee (her words).
Sit and wait some more I guess.

I called up and talked to business sales (1.888.233.3538). They are still saying release will be on 11/30 give or take 2 days.

Being that today is the 30th, I think it's safe to say that it's "take 2 days" as giving 2 has come and gone! hahah

Perhaps, but I'm not one of their business customers, just some average Joe wanting a new phone.
I called 888.233.3538 anyway and talked to one Carol Johnson (I have her direct line if anyone wants to buy from her, she was very polite - but business sales only).
Carol told me that according to her notes the release date is 11/30 give or take a day.
Since a phone call to Sprint's residential sales this morning reported that the release was to be this Friday, I can only conclude that business customers are given first crack at new releases before the rest of us. Interesting.

When I called last week, residential sales had the same information about the phone being released 11/30 (yes, I know today is 11/30  ), so I think it's all the same. I'll give them a try tomorrow and see what happens.
My companie's sprint rep told me today (11/30/04) that she can get it either later this week or next week.

The main reason that I want this phone is because I want to use it in my new Acura TL (for the handsfeelink (bluetooth)).
So.......
Let's just say the phone comes out tomorrow (stay with me) and I run out and buy it. Will it even work in the TL? I know it has bluetooth, but how long until "Handsfree link" makes it compatible with the car. I am looking on their website and the LG is not one of the phones that is listed. Anybody know anything about how long it takes before they come out with pairing instructions??

stellarz, hfl did not have the t608 on there site when I bought my TL and it worked just fine, I am quite sure the PM325 will work. When it finally gets released I will let you know.

Treo 650 users are having probs with the bluetooth. It has the profile but so far it only works with one of Audis and the Lexus LX470 if i remember right. Some1 bought that phone and for whatever reason it didn't work with the TL... some1 else with a Prius.... some1 else with an RX330.

Customer Service told me they had the phone and I could order it, but the I was transfered the final time to telesales and they said tomorrow.
Telesales hours of operation: 6:00am - 10:00pm MST
5:00am - 9:00pm PST
7:00am - 11:00pm CST

Um... arne't those hours of operation kinda messed up? Why do the east coast peoples get to order 6 hours before the pacific types? Are you sure you didn't confuse the time zones? (i.e. 7 AM EST, 6 AM CST, 5 AM MST, 4 AM PST) That would make a bit more sense (since there's presumably only one telesales department for the whole US of A and it probably opens at one time)

Would telesales sell it for the $229.99 - $150 - $30 = $49.99 as on the web?
Will it be available for web-sales at the same time as tele-sales?

Only if you are opening a brand new account with 2 years of service.
If you put the phone on an existing account it will be $229 unless you've had your current phone for 18 months then you could save $150 or $100 dollars.

If you've only had your A500 active on your account, you may qualify for the $150 mail in rebate. Check the sprint website. There is an area to check to see if you qualify, which I think you would. Or when you order the phone, ask the rep to check to see if you qualify for any rebates. If you qualify for 2 or more lines of service, you can get the $150 instant rebate if you activate a new line of service.

This issue is kind of confusing. I spoke to two different people in Business Telesales and they told me two totally different stories.
First one said that I COULD receive the $150 mail in rebate if I purchased a phone through Telesales.
Second person told me that I COULD NOT receive the $150 mail in rebate if I made a purchase through Telesales because they did not have access to the Mail in Rebate forms....
Unfortunately I did not get the first person's extension number or direct line :(
Just saw Radio Shack news letter for this week.
It has the 325 for $249.99 - $150 (Rebate) #17-2619

I have to apologize for that opening paragraph in the story, it was not the one I intended. It was a working one I first did in the morning as I was preparing the pieces. I've changed the story to reflect what we currently know.
At this point neither Sprint nor LG have confirmed 1xRTT data or DUN support, although I have seen the link to the LG website that talks about DUN and a device named the LX-325 with DUN support was approved by the Bluetooth SIG a couple of months ago.
