Why would someone would pay over $400 for a $250 off coupon. Granted they are selling it as a brand new unlocked Treo 650. Does that mean that BT is not disabled?

i would be very wary of something like this, and 150 of the 250 is probably the rebate too. scammers!

Besides "a sucker is born every minute" the real answer is eBay itself. How often do you see USED goods selling for more than NEW? Caveat emptor has no greater application than to eBay bidding.

The coupon is real, but, and I stress BUT, it CANNOT be used by someone who did not attend the PalmOne Treo Roadshow. So don't buy one. Furthermore, I have the coupon and ordered one through Vienna Channels (the company who set up the discount through PalmOne) and there will probably be a signifcant wait.

I have seeen the ebay add for these things. It is not a "scam", the sellers are specifying clearly that they are not selling the treo, just the opportunity to use the coupon. Bidders bidding up the price to 400 bucks are fools but you can't blame that on any misrepresentation made by the sellors (I am in no way connected to any of these auctions).

There is nothing special about the treo's purchased through this program, as opposed to ones pruchased driectly from the palm one site. The GSM models are unlocked, but so are the ones you can purchase from Palm One. As far as I know only AT&T locked their Treos, and it is unknown if ones purchased from Cingular/AT&T will be locked or not, but anybody can get one unlocked from PalmOne.

agreed, if ebay had a price comparison on items from other websites so users know when they are about to be swindled, pity the poor buyers that pay for these goods trying to get a refund
