PalmOne has info re the new Trea 650 coming out. Can anyone figure out whether this device will have voice recording? The specs list a microphone and a programable button. Assuming the device comes with software to allow voice recording, one can set it up to record. Can anyone verify whether voice recording is an option?
I use this feature daily on my Sony Clie when I want to record business meetings or can't stop to write something down while driving. It is one of the best features on a PDA. :eyeroll:

I believe it is possible. The camera/camcorder records voice/sounds so I'm sure there has to be a recorder built in. If there isn't, it should just be a matter of someone writing a program since the capability is there.

Has anyone tried voice recording on the new Treo 650. It has a built-in microphone, so I assume it can be done. Ideally, the voice recording would be stored on the SD card. Can anyone confirm whether this can be done?

There is a voice record feature available to utilize. It allows you to voice record your own ringers.
What you do, is go into the system menu, select sounds and then click on the tones button and then click on manage and then click on New. It will allow you to record your own ringtone/ringer with your voice. I think it limits you to 10-seconds though.

Did they eliminate this feature with the recent system upgrade (1.12)? I thought I remembered seeing it but then couldn't find it anymore - and the upgrade came out a few days after I got my treo. If the option has been removed, did anyone figure out a way to get it back yet?

This is what I use on the treo 600, says that it is compatible with the 650.
Download SoundRec107d.prc on www.infinityball.com and it it freeware.

Prior Palm devices had voice recording--download and install the two attachments from this treocentral thread to your Treo:

I can't believe that the Treo doesn't come with its own voice recorder app.....a real one. :(
My Clie's recording length is only limited by memory space.....in fact, it will tell you how much it can record, depending on which memory source you selected.
Ahh well...

SoundRec posted above is the best freeware app.... Yes the new option has been removed in 1.12.... SoundRec allows you to record to SD card. It saves the recordings as a wav file.

If you check out www.treocentral.com, there have been some 1.12 custom roms that have a voice recorder already installed. Actually called Voice Memo. I couldn't find the thread, but I used one of them and it's been great. It also got rid of RealPlayer and a bunch of the other junk you don't use, or need that just takes up space.

Voice Memo is the two part link I have posted above. If you are comfortable with changing/updating your ROM, Shadowmite's custom ROMs are the way to go. I'm too chicken!
