Help Phone Problem Question

I just bought an i500 on ebay. The phone powers up and the palm functions fine until I close the phone and reopen it, at that point the screen is blank or garbled and nothing works except a soft reset. Any thoughts? if not, any advice on getting it repaired?

Have you tried doing a hard reset? Also, does the problem occur even when the phone side is turned off?
