" Although Sprint will initially ship the PPC-6600 without EV-DO functionality, Sprint officials confirmed that the hardware technically will support it, and that a software upgrade to enable EV-DO is technically possible. Sprint is not committing to releasing any such upgrade, however. Sprint has announced plans to launch EV-DO throughout most of its network over the next year."

Like they've done in the past, I kinda doubt Sprint will let you upgrade a product that will be out almost a year before the infrastructure is available to the product. Like in the past you'll probably have to get a new phone.

Hopefully they launch EV-DO like they did Vision by making a big deal about it, and letting (regular) people know what it really is. And having a whole line of phones at launch, kinda like a video game system having a good number of games at its launch.

It would be to Sprint's benefit as they don't make money selling hardware.

if you pay top dollar for a phone it should have all the features available at that time.
