So I went to the Treo Road show today, saw the 650 and some of the third party enterprise support for it (as well as other platforms).

Nice mail solution, and it is amazing you can do with these things on an enterprise level. Total control over the functions and an "Orwellian" ability to see what the phone was up to remotely. (calls, battery level, when it was on, and off, what apps were run etc). You can do all the cool blackberry stuff on them (server and network management). They now come with Docs to Go full version.

I asked the palm development team some of the questions that I see on the websites.

1. Sprint phone - NO PTT but it is not precluded in the hardware. It can be done if Sprint wants it (a software application). Apperently even on the 600!

Since the 650's ram is flash an add on program won't be lost if the battery is removed or goes dead.

2. No EDVO support on CDMA - no hardware support for it.

3. Edge support for GSM on those phones, GSM phones are quad band.

4. RAM size was dictated by the price point requested by the service providers.

5. Wi-fi was not a big issue with the service providers and the chipsets available at the time of design would impact the power requirements of the treo adversly.

Items 2, 4, and 5 will be revisited in later models.

That said I was impressed with the device (I don't have a 600). It did render some websites that the 600 that I used at the sprint store did not. I liked the browser a lot.

The screen looked good, keyboard felt better, and the built in mail cliant looked good. I was sorry that Palm One did not continue to use the calendar with week view that Handspring had in the visors (I have datebook 5 so I will not personally miss this but other people will.)

They redesigned the connector so old treo stuff won't work but the 650 will work with Tungsten stuff and the connector has audio on it now. You can play MP3 files and write them directly to a SD card then insert it. You don't have to sync them over.

Conclusion, I will buy one, I like it.

Nice... sounds good. I didn't intend on getting one but they continue to entice me. Did you get the coupon?

What coupon?

Yes, I got the coupon, but the coupon is just a link to a website that has been published. They restrict each attendee to one purchase, based on an email address that you give them at the event. So you had to physically attend to get a phone at a discount. They had some events prior to the 650 official announcement, and those attendees could not order a 650 but they got their 600's for 200 bucks. After the 650 announcement the price of the 600 went up.

So you could either order a treo 600 for 249 or a 650 for 349. Sprint 650's are available soon, ATT/Cingular GSM later. Verizon and Tmobile users only had the option for the 600.

Since the GSM phones are not SIM locked to a carrier, I suppose you could order an att/cingular model and activate it on t-mobile if you were with them.

Go to www.treoroadshow.com for details. To my knowledge they're not going to Atlanta, and anyone can attend but you should register first.

Yes I did order a 650 (sprint). The web browser was able to read some pages that the 600 was not good at (my employer - www.csulb.edu). An included imap mail program was also a good thing.

Wi-Fi would have been nice - but in truth not a deal breaker because where I have wi-fi, I usually have a laptop. Extra memory sounds nice but I am not sure that it will be needed for me. If Docs to go and Datebook 5 run and mp3's are on a mem card (just got one, 1G for $49 after rebait) then memory may not be an issue.

Still I love my sanyo 4500 so I hope the phone and speaker phone work well on the 650.

I have tried everything. If you figure out a way let me know. I did manage to get every b2b marketer on the planet trying to sell me bulk discounts for Treo 600s.

They give you a coupon with the web address and a pass code. However, they only allow one order per attendee. They validate the orders by the email address you gave when you registered for the show, and checked in with. You also turn in a survey which may also be used in the validation process to make sure that you addended the full session. People have ordered using the address and coupon pass code only later to have their order terminated because they email address did not pass validation.

So there is no back door to getting a discount.

No, I meant if someone signed up at the show, allow me to order with their email address, the confirmation would prolly go to their email address though, but I would be able to enter my own CC# and address.

Please don't give your CC # to anyone!

If you can find some1 that went to the roadshow and doesn't plan on using their coupon at all. I have a few people I can ask.

SprintUsers.com was created in January 2002 as a resource for users of Sprint PCS products and services to learn about and share information. We have cll phone reviews, Cellular Accessories, Downloads, PDA reviews, Ringtones, all of the latest Sprint PCS news and information, an area where you can find help in creating a ring tone or custom image for you phone, and so much more. The most popular section is the message board where visitors can read and write messages, ask questions, and get advice about their cellular phone from other users.
