I didn't take any pics because I only had my Sprint vm4500 to take them with. I wouldn't have been able to show much more than is already out there.

From what we could tell the bluetooth wouldn't let us configure for a laptop to use the Vision connection.

A couple of notes:

The keyboard is nicely spaced
the device itself is nicely weighted when you "slide" it.
browsing was very fast compared to my iPAQ 2215 and CF2031 card
the reps suggested that you will be able to buy it through business channels starting next week (note **should!)
the headphone jack was the size of a earbud and not normal headphones. maybe have to purchase an adapter like the Treo??
It does have Windows Mobile 2003 second edition - I could put the screen in landscape.
they didn't have much to say about battery life :(

I wasn't able to play with the business connection software. When I tried to download it I got a "coming soon" screen.

I hope to be getting one in the next week or two (along with the rest of you!) that I would get to further test. It's looking like the BT tethering is disabled just like the Treo 650 though :(

I really like the device, it is a bit bigger than the Treo, I still debate if I would use it as my primary device just because I don't know that I want to always carry something that big.

I haven't heard a bad word about this device yet - thanks for the review

That's great news! I thought we were going to have to hack it :D

hacking it may have been a bettere choice. They may be enabling the phones for dial up but this might require a higher vision charge for these phones. I guess we'll see.

Too bad the 6601 is so BIG. Looks like an amazing gadget, but I imagine it is just too large to use as a cell phone...

Everyone is consistently comparing this phone to a cell phone, think of it as a swiss army knife I mean really how small can we make it and still have usable functionality. Personally when I get this device it's going to be a cell phone, a portable computer, an mp3 player, a gps unit, portable tv, portable radio, organizer etc etc etc. If they made it too small it would be worthless for some things and better at others but would you really want to have to carry around the alternative? As far as size and cell phone - nothing a wireless headset isnt going to fix... By the way, anyone know if the BT800 (I think is the name and shown at CTIA) is the only unit with a caller id right in the earpiece???

That's a valid point. I've been carrying a Treo 600 for 2 months and it's a great phone with a pda that works well. I just want all of the cool stuff that a PPC offers in the Treo form. I will probably still go with the 6600, I just wish it was a tad smaller.

Kash when you held it up to your face how did it feel - was it comfortable as a cell phone (not comparing it to a treo)?

Thats exactly what i was thinking. B/c how are they going to let you have unlimited Vision w/o you paying more. When they see how much Vision all the Treo users are using they will know its being used as modem and we all know for some reason Sprint doesn't like that.
I just wonder how are they going to take care of the issue of charging you more.

I would have to compare it to a Treo only a little bigger. I have a iPAQ 2215 and it feels much like holding that up to my face. I hope to have a BT headset so that I don't have to do that very often though :)

I have pretty big hands and that's about how it looked in my mits. It's not small but it also isn't huge!!

It is surprisingly slim for being a 'sliding' unit. It was comfortable in my pocket but I am a bigger guy (6'4" 250 lbs).

either that guy's hands are huge or this thing is tiny - honestly anyone complaining about the size of this thing just needs to go and get a cell phone only and not a combo unit like this cause you can't make it any smaller and still have it useful for anything else - that's a beautiful thing man :joy: beautiful... I think the treo's screen and keyboard are too small how bout dem apples

me too, I'm looking at the Jabra BT800 - nice little unit w/ a nice caller id on the unit - not going to be under my christmas tree though cause it's not out til 1/05 :(

In the interview with Treocentral it sounds like Sprint may keep the pricing the same for the Treo. We shall see.

Some quotes from the interview:

"I also asked whether the commentator on my previous post was right about the terms of service being a concern, and Jeff responded, "my understanding is that no, we do not have a restriction on these devices from a pricing/plan standpoint. This sort of use only represents a pretty small fraction of Sprint Vision customers, so we see it as one of those areas where if this is how customers choose to connect, we don't stand in the way."

I've been very happy with my old Motorola flip phone for 5+ years but it recently flopped one to many times and is dead.

The idea of merging my pager, cell, Palm, and laptop for some functions really looks/looked possible. I have servers that I need to get at via HTTP and telnet and files via FTP, and this all seems possible via either the 6601 or the Treo 650. While not as good as a laptop (duh) for emergencies and small items, it looks like it would be fine. Being able to go landscape is great as well for looking at web pages. I think giving up the top side reale state for screen instead of keybaord is a positive.

I have no idea why they disabled 802.11 in it? Can this be re-enabled some way? (Hello hackers??) It seems to me to be the easiest way to move data back and forth at home and the office. It seems crazy to be paying for a flash card to put back in what they turned off. Any word on the 6600 maybe having it back in??

If not, is there a blue tooth adapter I can add to my laptop or desktop to do the linking?

If all of that fails, I have seen the links to the SD memory & wireless cards but it look sbigger than a standard SD RAM chip. Will this thing read in as memory only in an aapter I would get for my PC ( right now I have a CF card reader only)

BTW: I played with one today and the keyboard seemed fine. I saw a review elsewhere. I have pretty thin fingers for a male and found the Treo 650 really hard to deal with, Blue shift and a key next to it included. The 6601 seemed easier to type on. You could almost actually use multiple fingers.. :-)

ANy comments or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

HTC never made the CDMA version with Wifi...only the GSM version has it, so the 660x cannot be hacked to activate it. It does support Wifi cards though (but dont get the scandisk 256mb combo wifi card).

The 6600 is still slated to be released on Jan 25th....at least at the moment.

Yes you can us BT with your laptop....or at least I can.

Here is a detailed Review I wrote up on the 660x:

Review of PPC-660x from a Treo 600 User

I hope this helps.

I thought that I would be getting the 660x but after getting my Dell x50v I couldn't go back to a QVGA PPC along other reasons also but ended up with a Treo 650 which I am very happy with!
