View Full Version : NEW PHONE ALERT: Motorola MMV730
bluecoyote
10-25-2004, 10:43 PM
Just in from the Sprint sources at Motorola
EXPECTED AVAILABILITY- Unknown, estimated early 2005
Features:
262k QVGA COLOR DISPLAY (I believe this is Motorola's first. The Prelim model I got to see blew the Toshiba away. They wouldn't tell me who makes it.)
4K External display for Caller ID
Bluetooth Wireless Technology (Unknown if Sprint will cripple it)
1.2 MP Digital Camera with Flash
Integrated Video Recorder
Transflash Memory Slot
Mp3 player & Video Player
Sprint Multimedia Service
3 hours 25 minutes talk time
9 days standby
Interchangeable faceplates
Mood lights (ala V600))
Special thanks to the motorola rep. Sorry, couldn't take pictures.
This phone looks a little different from the v710 (it's black metal)... it's more cleanly designed, and, in my mind, looked impressively upscale. This phone is expected to go head to head with the Sanyo 5600. Motorola has accelerated development of this phone to be out before it, but he said the realistic goal is for the phone to be out within a month of the Sanyo.
The pre-production model (still awaiting FCC approval) had an OLED outer display developed by Kodak/LG, and should eliminate you naysayers of the Toshiba's.

Agreed. Remember the samsung a640 or the Nokia 6255i flip that was supposed to be released for sprint? Both made it to phonescoop, the a640 was cancelled and no one is sure what's going on with the 6255i.

It's hard to say for either. For the samsung, we just have pictures, no specs, they could be photoshopped. For the motorola, we just have specs, no pictures, and the source doesn't have a good prediction record.
That said, I also hope they're both true. The samsung looks really nice, and the motorola sounds really nice.

its no worse than random users posting a link to a samsung GSM phone on phonescoop that Sprint will *never* get and ask if Sprint could possibily get it someday.
i think it's bluecoyote's way of throwing us off the path that he really wishes that Sprint ONLY carried the Toshiba

This phone is likely to make it to production. The Nokia 6255i is still on its way, although I was wrong about its initial release date. For those of you who don't know, the Nokia 6255i was delayed to to production issues, but it will be here soon... or cancelled. The LG was cancelled in August with the arrival of the 325, and the initial Motorola didn't make it past pre-production, after its design was scrapped. Motorola has had serious production issues with their lineup.
I do hope to have pictures soon!
LOL i'm as stupid as George W!!! :hee:

Until I see genuine photos or other sources claiming the same thing, I'm not buying it. How could such a phone possibly go so long undetected? The V710 was motorola's worst kept secret.
Merlyn_3D
10-26-2004, 03:12 PM
Maybe the V710 allowed this phone to go undetected, everyone was ooooing and aaaahhing at that.
Halo1982
10-26-2004, 03:35 PM
Well Motorola hardly tried to hide the V710...they were doing promos for it several months before it was released...also it went up on the FCC site long ago, but now that companies can hide FCC information before the product is released, who knows. Plus everyone at Verizon knows what phones are comming out soon because of their insanely long testing period.
Sanyos on Sprint usually come out a month after their FCC approval. On Verizon their phones seem to take 6 months or more.

The V710's both success and failure have lead this phone to slip under the radar, according to the Moto rep.
Motorola wasn't originally comitting to the idea of a Sprint equivalent of the V710, however, after the demand for a like phone for SprintPCS, Motorola increased the rate of development. However, after the initial quality concerns over Motorola's V710, Motorola has become much more discreet with their testing process, ESPECIALLY after the V710 recall, and the RAZR V3 problems.
You heard it here first.

no doubt I'm hearing this first here. That's why I'm not believing it. There's no proof. Ever since you posted an article about a hyped up moto phone with "moto-vision", I'm finding it too difficult to believe you. You offer no proof. And no one else who usually are privvy to this kind of information have a clue. offer me something to change my mind. until then, i just don't believe it.

A surprising number of people are throwing themselves off bridges, buildings and other tall structures after realising they just paid close to $900 for a phone with nearly the same features as the V600 (although the V3 does look pretty damn cool).
