Will they really call this the a800? It looks like one with that model number may already exist:

Good eye, Noodle. I didn't see that, but it's so small, it might be used just for ringers, like on the 8100.

10-25-2004, 09:53 PM
If this phone is real (with ready link) I hope it comes out around the same time as the 5600 so I can have two phones to choose from. I'm liking the slider thing.

well at least speakerphone... it's a little hard to see where the mic would be if closed, then again it might not even be able to use a speakerphone or readylink while closed.

oh and Dave yeah I would think they would give it a different model # even the Kyocera 2255 had a different model # when they had it out for Virgin Mobile. (I think)

assuming these pictures are real I do really like the fact it has an internal antenna as opposed to some of the other sliders. Oh and on another side note that thing I thought was a speaker next to the camera lens could just be a light sensor. I don't know now :D

This phone does look like an interesting one, but does this thing run on some sort of mobile windows?

If you look at the pic with the dog, there's an icon for winamp, a search feature icon, and what appears to be an excel icon.

An interesting observation is that the battery meter has moved from the pic with the dog in the background to the one with the clock in the background. Maybe the icons shift in the matter in which you use the phone's features. If you look at the clock backgrounded pic, there is something after the battery meter. What could that be? Usually the last thing on the upper right hand side of a screen is the cell battery.

What's with the ------- [999] ------- is this a counter that tracks voicemail or sms?

These are just obeservations, maybe this is an upcoming phone. Would be a great one if it is.

I guess its possible that its a real phone...there are a number of others that look very similar in their line:

The only thing is, that Samsung tends to put pictures, not words on their phones it looks like. Also, the pic of the A800 on the original post, looks very round up top, compared to the almost rectangulared look of the top of all the other Samsungs sliders....strange

At the very least the screen is photoshopped. The big blue analog clock reads 2:00, but the digital clock 8:43

My point from the pics below is...they tend to use the same body shells for most phones. Saves from having to design too many systems to create the shells. Sliders would share the same bodies and keypads in many cases. Why would they change from using the pics on the keys (pics of a "phone handset" for "Talk", for instance) to using the words? It doesnt make sense.

For all of you saying the screen looks photoshoped: it probably is. This is standard practice for promo or teaser photos. Take photos of a non working shell and then photoshop the background/icons into them. Also, this way the screen looks much clearer than if it were a photo of the actual phone and screen.

I'm just hoping some of the new phones we're expecting Sprint to release soon will be EV-DO phones. I was planning to hold out on replacing my A500 until Sprint upgraded to EV-DV, but if they are willing to settle for EV-DO in the short run, so am I.

At least one of the "rumor threads" I read claimed that the LG 535 would be an EV-DO phone, and the official word from Sprint is that EV-DO will be available by the end of the year (or early in '05). Hopefully we'll see a *real* EV-DO phone by xmas.

Look closely at the Flash presentation on their (Samsungs) website. It is GSM so Sprint will NEVER see it.

MAYBE they will release a CDMA version which would be great but until someone has proof of that, then it doesn’t exist (the CDMA version).

The phone on http://www.samsung.com/ is the SGH-E800 which is GSM which is not for Sprint.

And, for clarification, the SGH-A800 is different from the SGH-E500 which is different from the SGH-D500 which is different from the SPH-A800.

Can't confirm it, can't deny it.

Conclusion; there is no fact that this phone exists or even will exist for Sprint. I sure hope it does, but until it is officially announced, it does not exist to the end user/consumer.

I cannot get a confirmation or a denial on the existance of these phones.

Considering the source, I have to remain skeptical for now.

I wouldn't doubt that there is something in the works like that, but it could easily go the way of the "Dick Tracy" phone that never saw the light of day.

Don't forget, for every handset that Sprint sells, there are dozens that were proposed and rejected for one reason or another.

Extranet.

An extranet is a private network that uses the Internet protocol and the public telecommunication system to securely share part of a business's information or operations with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers, or other businesses. An extranet can be viewed as part of a company's intranet that is extended to users outside the company. It has also been described as a "state of mind" in which the Internet is perceived as a way to do business with other companies as well as to sell products to customers.
An extranet requires security and privacy. These require firewall server management, the issuance and use of digital certificates or similar means of user authentication, encryption of messages, and the use of virtual private networks (VPN) that tunnel through the public network.

Companies can use an extranet to:

Exchange large volumes of data using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
Share product catalogs exclusively with wholesalers or those "in the trade"
Collaborate with other companies on joint development efforts
Jointly develop and use training programs with other companies
Provide or access services provided by one company to a group of other companies, such as an online banking application managed by one company on behalf of affiliated banks
Share news of common interest exclusively with partner companies
Netscape, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems have announced an alliance to ensure that their extranet products can work together by standardizing on JavaScript and the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). Microsoft supports the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) and is working with American Express and other companies on an Open Buying on the Internet (OBI) standard. The Lotus Corporation is promoting its groupware product, Notes, as well-suited for extranet use

The extranet is EXTRA cool! hahahahha

That's a different phone. The only thing similar is the sliding mechanism. Thats it. BTW, that phone in particular is headed for Brazil.

Yeah, that's the A815, seeming to be slated for Verizon, hence the SCH prefix. What that has to with Brazil, I dont know. All I know is Sprint and Verizon often release similar Phones with similar model numbers. An educated guess would lead one to believe this to be the cousin of a similar model to be offered by Sprint. Hey, it's just a guess brah. :eyeroll:

Internet = Public web (accessible to everyone on the net)

Intranet = Private web (accessible to 1 organization only)

Extranet = Privately shared web (accessible to 2 or more organizations)

NOTE: This is how they differ logically. Each web application can be implemented physically in a number of ways and make use of a number of different technologies and security methods.

There's a link to the extranet right on samsungusa.com. It's pretty easy to find:

Guys I actually got to speak with the Samsung rep at the confrence and he had slides on this new phone. 2 megapixel camera was the biggest feature I guess besides the new sliding setup. The phone will not have a speakerphone or readylink option.

I can live without both of those big time. All I really want in a phone is a good camera w/flash and customizable ringers.

Did he offer any other info? Did the slides resemble the A800 pics found on that OTHER site or did they look more like the A815?? Did he give any kind of timeframe? Anything about price?? ANYTHING!?!!??!?!? C'mon, Throw me a frickin bone here!!!

I'm not on dial up Jaggy. I do know though that Dave sets limits for attachment and avatar size because some members here use dial up. Yet certain members are allowed to post huge [img] all over the place which does slow things down. 1 [img] I could understand, but 3 or 4?

External antenna gives better reception. Why do you think they put on external antenna's? It cost more to put on the phone than an internal so there is purpose for it.

It's not that certain members are allowed to, its that they know how to. Tho in the future one pic and a link should be sufficient, and not posting all the pics from that site.

Its about what type of file the pics are. If their Jpeg they won't be that big, if they're Tiff etc, they'll probably be big

yeah, antenna's on Anolog CDMA devices generally tend to have antannas...ones that are digital-only have internal ones... (VI5225, LG's at Verizon[stubs])...

At the very least the screen is photoshopped. The big blue analog clock reads 2:00, but the digital clock 8:43

Actually, rather than photo-shopped; it looks like the hologram on a non-working display model.
