Oh, boy. PalmOne finally officially announced what we've already known for weeks (?months): there will be an upgrade to the Treo 600 called the 650 that has a better screen and Bluetooth.

That's all fine and dandy, but when can we actuallly GET one??

I guess the rumors about 1.3 megapixel camera were not true. PalmOne's site says it's only 0.3 megapixels, just like the Treo 600. :(

I was really looking to get this device, but the "upgrades" are disappointing. If the T600's price drops dramatically after the T650 is out, I may just get that one.

But the camera will be a second gen vga camera. So it should be a *LOT* better than the 600 camera. I believe it's Treocentral has a picture taken with the new camera and it does look a bit better.

"No formal upgrade program announcement has been made, to date. Testing for the phone on our system is still in final stages, and according to today’s inventory list, the date for availability for us is mid-November."
that is what i got from my sprint rep.

Spoke with a Rep in Midland, Texas today and she did verify that is the date but they might not get it for a few days after that? Sprint is supposed to be carrying it mid November. I just hope Palm One has the rebate program like Handspring did. We will just have to wait and see!

Good Luck

Actually, I'm surprised you met a Best Buy clerk that would even look it up for you. Just be careful about their "new" PSP which really won't replace your old unit with the newest thing in stock.

$649? The official Sprint press announcement posted yesterday said the price was going to be $599. This comes frome the "official" announcement -

"The Treo 650 by palmOne will be available next month at Sprint Stores, Sprint business channels and online at www.sprintpcs.com for a suggested retail price of $599.99."

Surely, BB won't be charging more than what they will at the Sprint stores.

My whole issue was whether to get another palm phone (Treo650) or get one of the new Sanyo coming out. I was going to just get both and put 1 on each of my lines but then i really wouldn't be able to enjoy 1 completely. After seeing all the announcements for the new Treo650, it seems like im not as hype for it. To me, its not worth 650$, even though i could get it for less, i think the retail price should be closer to 550$. It does add bluetooth but thats only going to be used for headsets and i already have a jabra bluetooth headset that i can use with any phone. The screen does look nice but it just seems like its not being all of what it could have been.

Argelius,
I am a SPrint dealer in FL. We were just informed the launch date is mid November.

Can't we just flip a coin??

Or you be the first in Midland and I will be the first in Pecos, TX??

Just spoke with Sprint they are going to give me a credit of 150.00, but they will have me extend my contract for two years, (hey I am only 6 months into the new contract now) Go to treonauts.com and read the review, pretty good, it tells about the rebate! (one would have to be a Sprint customer for 18 months, I have been with them only for 14 months.)

You're on. I've never had much luck with getting freebies or rebates from Sprint, and I've only had my Treo 600 for 11 months - so I'm sure it's going to be a full boat purchase. I saw the treonauts review, and it is the best so far.

Had my Treo 600 since last February, I bought it at Best Buy; returned it and then a month later bought the phone and kept it. Sprint now has service as far as Pyote. The sprint rep in Midland said, probably first quarter that Pecos would get it. I have a AZ plan so I don't pay for roaming as long as half of my minutes are in Sprint Territory! Good Luck

from gizmodo -Marc Hedlund, the guy at ORA who basically first made a bunch of noise about Sprint's boneheaded decision to cripple the Dial Up Networking portion of the Treo 650's Bluetooth stack, just got an update from one of Sprint's PR executives telling him that a post-launch patch will re-enable the phone's DUN capability.
