is it just me, or does this look familiar to what samsung already has out.
i'm sure it has new features, but design wise- old news.

Yes, its seen as a budget camera phone for around $200-$249...
For that price, it seems to be a good value.
I would say $229 is right.

The VGA1000 is $229.99 right now ... so it might launch at $249.99

it's basic...but i think lots of people will buy this...-this phone better be cheap.
it's like they just painted the a680 and removed video and the mirror ext lcd.
but...a affordable/blue phone/blue leds/vga camera/ small phone/Vision/SMS/with good sound quality/reception = yay! for some people :)
btw, the pictures of the phone opened up made me kinda sad.

This might be a nice little phone if it has the updated web-browser of the A700 and not the one the a680 uses.

Looks good to me. It does look like an A680 but at a cheaper price point, which is always welcome. That and the blue is a nice touch. The pics slideshow thing is cool.... I wish my phone had that. I wanna kno about this updated UI.

it is same ol same ol...but depending on price ($200 for aphone nowadays?, i'm guessin this is minus rebates) then it should b ight
looks like samsung was a late w/ their version of the 8100 :p
and still got the same general samsung smallphone shape/look/feel with a big ugly "conehead" antenna...y big, odd-shape antennas?

I am sure it will be a great seller. That doesn't make it a quality product (Windows ME comes to mind). More so if they drop the awful browser in it that the a680 has. I'd also like to know how tuolumne knows that it has an updated UI or browser. No one has used this phone and it's not released. No one that I know who works for Sprint has even seen a preproduction model.
Once again a pound of prentension is worth a pound of manure.

Ohhhhh, Windows ME. I actually had better luck with ME than 98, but both were crap. :)

Samsung needs to get off their butts and design something that looks like a phone and not a prop the from the 1963 series Star Trek!
While I have tried several of the phones that look like this model, I have always stated that they look cheap and have no style.
Come on Samsung! Get off your butts and show us what you have. Motorola is the same way. The v60v looks very much like the old startac's they sold when I worked for SPCS. Anyway, just adding my $0.02 worth!
Weak, very very weak. C'mon Samsung, give us something new and different (CDMA version of D500 ;) )

The browser will have to be most likely the one out of the A700, since the UI is also being updated. The "updated UI", consists of either a list of menu options, or a 3x3 grid, along with 2 softkeys, reminiscent of the A700's...Go look up A3L SPHA740, and click on the "users manual"...you will see the updated UI there;)
And as for no preproduction models....

Word of advice. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. ;)

^^ Looks like a GSM Sammy to me. I don't know any recent CDMA Sammy that uses more than 4 bars for reception. That pic looks like it has more than four. In fact it looks very much like the external screen of an E315/E316/E317. Lest we not forget the a640/N290 fiasco where those phones were never released.

New UI= different software which could be why the external LCD is different...

Okay assure me that it is not fake. I'm be waiting for that assurance. You're missing my point and being combative (as usual). The point is that everything is speculation, and just because hatoncat says so (do you even know for a fact where he got this pic?) does not make it true. Open your eyes to the possibility that something online my be false. It may be true. We just do not know right now. I prefer when people do not state things that are pure speculation as facts. See the point now.
I think we are all trying to say that Samsung really needs a new concept phone for Sprint. This is just another plain ol' Samsung, except painted blue. Damn Tuolumne, get off of your Samsung horse! Its just a fricken a620 with a new GUI!

I am franky tired of this same ol' desing from Samsung...I want to see something different...A bigger phone, like the A620....
I really want a phone with its camera mounted behind like on the A620...great for those unsuspecting quick snapshots without opening the phone (use the color screen as a viewfinder)...;)
Samsung, I some phones reminicent of your Anycall line up phones...Then you would REALLY make me a coustomer for life:D

dont you people think the rl2500 and the vm4500 look alot alike? not to mention the 8200 is pretty similar. samsung does have a variety of styles , a600, a620, a700, a680, a660. sanyo doesnt have much if any more variety than samsung. yeah i think they could have made this phone look different, but i dont really care cause i wont be getting one. although i would really like to change faceplates on my 4050. i dont want to start a flame war i just dont think every one should get so upset about this phone looking "so similar" to a couple other models

Me too. That's what I get for getting my hopes up. I really must be an A680 with a different dress on. That new UI better be good though.
In the end, all that matters is how Sprint markets the phone to people. For people who don't know anybetter, they might think it's a sweet phone.

I am actually kinda looking forward to this phone. If it's released at a decent price point ($250 or less) I will pick it up. I'm looking for a small, good phone. Don't need all the bells and whistles, not really even a camera, but it's nice. I am more concerned about the size and reception more than anything. I have read good things about the A680, so if this has similar reception to the A680, I'll get it. I like that it's not ALL silver and has a changeable plate. The fact that it looks like all other Samsung's isn't a big deal to me because it is small.
Any idea when it will be released? I'm up for my 18 month rebate next month...

actually i was just talking about sprint phones. otherwise i wouldnt have compared it to the similar sanyos. and yeah even a lot of the samsungs on various carriers are very different. im sure there are at least a couple people , maybe just maybe, who loved the a680 but couldnt afford it and dont really care about video. kind of like how the treo 650's are the exact same but one doesnt have a camera. i know its for a different reason but still. :eyeroll:
