I think the best thing for baseball was when they re-aligned the divisions, and added the wild card, it's given the two best teams in baseball, continually each year, to play against each other for the AL Champ title.

Arod just knocked the ball out of the Red Sox pitchers hand while running to first... gee that wasn't blatent or anything

Draggar

Luckily the umpires discussed it and made the correct call.

Also, the ump called ARod safe at least 2-3 seconds BEFORE he tagged first base.

I hope the yankees fans feel really stupid when they get home and watch sports center and see the homerun that was a home run and A-rod karate chopping the baseball out of the pitchers hand. because the fans are acting like jack *****es.

Maybe A-rod thought he could get away with that. bad bad bad A-rod. i thought it was pretty funny...fans throwing baseballs on the field. I just saw the news and they said that someone even threw their cell phone

all right Sox...way to complete your improbable run into the history books. now - you have to realize this will become completely moot if you do not win the Series. kind of torn here...would not mind seeing the Sox end the curse once and for all, but i'm really a REAL baseball kind of guy (NL). so i'll probably just be hoping for 7 great games.

one more game 7 tomorrow. i think i'll be real tired at the office friday. oh well!

After 15 years of living in MA, here is a moment I can be proud of! Too bad there was a horrible riot in Amherst. Over 30 people arrested while it was actually relatively quite in Boston. i've not been to Boston, so i can't comment on their rep as being right up there with places like Mississippi on their racial sensitivity, but on all those Boston bar shots Fox kept showing, i can't recall seeing anyone who wasn't white. need to find someone who tivo-ed the game, i guess.

all right - onto the baseball-the-way-it's-supposed-to-be-played NL game 7. where a 2-1 final is entirely possible and will be that much more exciting than the AL game. good drama there too...Clemons against the Red Birds 'Murderers Row 2K4'. once again, another night to bed after i should. oh well - early to bed tomorrow night so i can be on the bus to Happy Valley @ 5:00 am Saturday! baseball postseason is not enough - the weekends belong to football!

hey, this thread is about baseball, not football. You're comparing apples to oranges. How many baseball teams you know win 20 in a row recently? If so, how often? I certainly don't know of any, but would appreciate if someone could clue me in.

Don't be hating just because the Yankees lost. If they won, honestly, not many people would care.

Suck so bad they historically came back after being behind 3 games? LOL, I hope you're only being sarcastic.

Take it you never lived in Boston, LowDown. Then naturally you wouldn't understand the support we Massachusetts (and much of New England) have for the Red Sox.

So you're basing New England's racial tolerance based on one or two high-class bars in Boston?
(And yes, when you bash Boston, you bash all of New England).

Damn, you're just as prejudice as your accusation!

I'm sure yourt story would be completely differnt if it was a bar in Lawrence, Methuen, Haverhill, Lowell, heck, even Worchester, but they didn't because FOX decided that wouldn't make for good TV.

Also, I noticed that there was a fraction of the "bashing" (or, sore-loser mentality) last year when the Sox lost than there is this year when the Yanks lost. I've never seen so many sore losers in my life, even throwing balls at Johnny Damon when he comes out to bat. How sad.

And where is your "dynasty" now?

Oh, yeah, home until spring. Where were they last year? Oh yeah, beat by a team that had a fraction of their payroll who was in the bottom at the all-star break.

Oh, and the Sox were not only the 3rd best team in the majors, they won 4 games in a row against the Yankees, not just one.

ummm...i think you just made my point, didn't you? if it's a high class bar in Boston, you can't get in if you are a minority?

anyway, it's not New England that has the rep, it's Boston, friend. and i knew that living in iowa, it has nothing to do with the fact i now live in new york.

there are of course good and bad people wherever you go. now, back to why i started this thread, baseball.

Houston up 2-1 in the top of the 5th. and just as i mentioned in my last post, we've seen fundamental baseball - Redbirds suicide squeeze in their run. if the Yanks could do that, they'd have finished off the Sox in game 4. but as we all know, the AL just waits for the 3 run homer when one run will do. ;)

Beltran at the plate - and he grounds out. that's noteworty. wearing the pinstripes next year? with any luck he'll land in LA. no, not the Angels.

huh..no baseball on Friday. will need to get my fix somewhere else.

Oh, and the Sox were not only the 3rd best team in the majors, they won 4 games in a row against the Yankees, not just one.Dynasty is still there, just not this year. At the All-Star break the Sox were in second place in the American League East, and that's where they finished. And for the record, the Sox had the 2nd highest payroll in baseball. So really, they are no better than the Yankees when it comes to buying talent.

This series answered the age-old question: What happens to a team that spends all its money on overpaid stat-padding players who have never won an important game in their lives, and none on starting pitching, middle relief, and long relief.

All that being said, I congratulate the Red Sox. They played phenomenally well in the last four games, and all those overpaid players the Yankees had played like squat. This is coming from a 40-year die-hard fan of the Yankees who lives no where close to New York.

zaphod

But what made the Yankees so great in the 96-01 run is that they DID do things like hit-and-run, and bunt (don't remember any suicides, though). Torre was an NL manager for his entire career until NY. But once Giambi came in, they reverted to the home run bashing. Now the Yankees are just a bunch of overpaid washed up stat padders. Keep Jeter, Williams, Posada, Cairo, Rivera, and Mussina, and maybe Matsui, and dump the rest of them. Where are the Tino Martinezes, Scott Brosiuses that made this team so great?
Beltran at the plate - and he grounds out. that's noteworty. wearing the pinstripes next year? with any luck he'll land in LA. no, not the Angels. It's like getting Kenny Lofton this year. Why? So you could have another centerfielder? Yankees going to dump Bernie, when he and Jeter are the only two to deliver consistently???? Are they insane????

There was a day when most of the position players and half the pitching staff came up through the Yankee farm system. Not anymore. Cashman needs to wake up and remember how that team got to be so d*mn good in the first place......

They definitely deserved this one.

Unfortunately, I was dissapointed, but not surprised, as to the aftermath. There were swat police lining up and preparing at a gas station. Don't know if they did anything and wasn't waiting to find out if they were.

But the worst thing was what happened to an innocent fan. I arrived just after it happened. Apparently, several college students (probably from my college since it was in the area) flipped over a car. A girl (who apparently was the owner) started crying with several of her friends cuddling her. As I approached, I discovered that not only did she leave her purse in the car, someone apparently stole all the money and credit cards from it. As I walked around a bit more, I made another pass by. Her father pulled in and he went out and comforted her as she was in tears. A tow truck in the mean time pulled up and I watched it flip a totalled car. How sad.

Oh, and for the record, I don't drink beer and I did everything to cooperate with authorities. Just wanted to go on a sightseeing tour. This is what happened in Worcester, MA. I'm sure Boston is was a whole lot worse.

Dang, that sucks for her but I saw worse than that at Michigan State when State LOST to Duke in 1999. Those riots were NUTS. Kids not only flipped an old school Delorean (back to the future car) but I saw mulitple cars that were flipped and torched (including a cop car). CRAZY!!

believe me, i expected worse. i really thought i'd wake up this morning to see Government Center burning.

As for the SAWKS, yes, I broke into tears last night after they won last night. I became a sox fan somewhere between Fisk's homerun to win game 6 of the 75 WS and Bucky Effin Dent. I watched game 6 of the 86 series at high school, convinced we won, got in my mom's car to go home and on the drive home, the Buckner play happened. Of course, I had baseball disapointment in my genes- my grandfather was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan from Flatbush. I think the win last night is amazing- not because of the win itself, but because a whole generation of people grew up somehow thinking it just wasn't possible.
