i feel like apple is going to be eventually pressured to make a ipod with a color screen...gotta make the fans happy... i don't really mind not having a color screen as long as i have every song on the planet in my pocket close to my genitals.

the good thing about having another ipod come out is that all the mp3 players/ipods currently out now, might have price drops :)

Apple unveils new iPod that can display photos

Device holds up to 25,000 pictures for slide shows

LOS ANGELES (CBS.MW) -- Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple Computer, unveiled Tuesday a new model of the company's popular iPod music player that can also display digital photographs.

The latest incarnation of Apple's (AAPL: news) iPod is available immediately and comes in a 40-gigabyte version for $499, with a 60-gigabyte device costing $599, Jobs said during a presentation to launch the new device.

The new iPod Photo can hold up to 25,000 pictures and comes with cables that connect the device to a television to play video slide shows.

The device works with Apple's own computers, as well as those using Microsoft's (MSFT: news) Windows operating system.

For its fiscal fourth quarter, the maker of sleekly designed computers and products said it sold 2 million iPods. Several analysts estimate the company could sell close to 3 million iPods this Christmas season.

What's more, iPods accounted for $537 million in revenue, or 23 percent of the company's $2.35 billion in sales, during Apple's most-recently reported period.

While iPod revenue grew 344 percent in the same period compared with a year ago, sales of Apple's flagship iMac computer line fell 23 percent.

In recent trading, Apple shares eased 1 cent to $47.54.
