got really annoyed with calls cutting in and out and the perpetual popping/clicking sound during calls on the a700. so what do i do? the logical thing of course: get a new phone. :eyeroll: anyway for some reason i landed the i600. and i just have a question. how the hell do you type a symbol in a text field? i'm cycling through abc and t9 and 123 and i cannot for the life of me find where the rest of the symbols are hiding. i know in t9 you can hit the 1 key and cycle through some of them but i want to type a ) or a \ and i can't find it! disappointing. internet explorer is way slow on it too. i miss webviewer. someone shoot me.

Like your photo Michelle, you had the Treo 600 before? Why don't you get the Treo 650 ( I hope in a couple of weeks) I have been doing a fair amount of browsing on my Treo 600. Try the Express program, fairly good for looking up movies, addresses; ect. Have a good night!

I love the web browser on the i600, it is MUCH faster than webviewer IMO. You might want to try www.skweezer.com as well, it is some kind of portal site that reformats everything to fit your screen, very fast.

One thing I miss is smiley faces on my 4050, they were all preprogrammed in there!!

michelle

how is it faster? do you have it set a certain way? it loads everything so slowly on mine. webviewer seemed faster. and how are you dealing with the line by line scrolling issue. the rocker keys are useless.

Opera just came out with their browser for smartphones. The user who reported this seems to be very happy with it. See here :

If you can get it on your SD card, you should be able to install it from there.

Taping on the .cab file in file explorer should prompt you to install the program.

There should be a file explorer on the phone itself.

Michelle I usually use the IE browser stacked, or one column. Seems to load up pretty fast for me, but it is dependent on Sprint signal. In low signal areas it is quite slow. My last experience with webviewer was with the 4050, webviewer was flawed in regards to that phone, so maybe my experience is skewed.

I cannot believe Opera finally released its browser, cant wait to download this later on!

Michelle the .sis extension is for Symbian OS, I made the same mistake in picking the Samsung device. Pick the windows mobile device, that should download a .cab file. I am using it right now on my i600 and it is VERY fast!!

SpineDoc

Wow the opera browser is SLICK! It formats the web pages perfectly, and loads them up super super fast. It has a full screen mode that is truly full screen, simply amazing. The only thing I am wondering is where is there any kind of a favorites menu? There also seem to be some weird issues with losing scrolling function if you go into the address bar, but exit back to the webpage.

Keep in mind this is a beta release, it shows incredible promise. Cant wait for the retail version to ship.

michelle
10-15-2004, 03:51 PM
how did you install it. and which version did you use.

SpineDoc
10-15-2004, 03:57 PM
Just go to the smartphone section, then when you choose your device do NOT choose the Samsung device, as that will download a Symbian OS version of Opera. Go to the last option that says Windows Mobile device, and download that file. It should have an extension of .cab, which is the default installer for the smartphone. If you download this file to your SD card, all you have to do is browse to it on whatever file browser you have on the i600 and just click on it to install the Opera browser.

If you cannot download it let me know, I can email it to ya, it's only like 2mb.

i installed it again. i am trying to pull up a url but at the bottom it says images 6/6 16kb completed request. i never can load a new url, i am stuck at the "home" page which lists "opera software, connect to web, get started," etc. FRUSTRATED!!!!!! i am just trying to load yahoo! www.yahoo.com

wait hold on something's happening...weird i can load cnn but not yahoo.

Michelle keep in mind its a technical preview, but it works darn good. A technical preview is like an alpha release, so expect some bugs.

How is your reception? I find that if my reception is not great it will stall at loading pages, just like PIE. You may also want to reboot your phone if you are experiencing difficulty. Oh, and make sure you install Opera on your phones memory, NOT on the SD card as I am reading on their forums that it runs very slowly this way.

Keep plugging away girl, we can get it to work!

you still haven't answered how you were able to deal w/IE's line by line scrolling. i HATE IT!!!!

SpineDoc
10-15-2004, 04:46 PM
LOL, I guess I dont have a solution to the line by line scrolling. Yes it bothers me too, but it seems like it is a fault of not having a touch screen like on the i500. I will play around with it this weekend and let you know how it goes, maybe there is a hidden solution to this.

On the good side the Opera browser seems to scroll much faster. It also has a built in function that skips all the initial graphics at the top of webpages and starts where it senses the text starts, very cool and will save you some scrolling there.

opera is a fast browser on the i600, way faster than IE. i just wish it worked better. not being able to load yahoo or set bookmarks is annoying but i hope that will be fixed in the official release. i think right now it's beta...

Wirelessly posted (Samsung i600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 176x220))

Well I have had the thing for three days now and so far I am loving it.

Does anyone else have headset problems? I can get the headset loud enough, except that when I hit the "mute" button, it gets much louder for a split second. Anyone know of a fix?

i'm trying to install in when the sd card is in the phone itself. i've no access to a pc right now...

woah, r u using a Mac w/ the Smartphone? I am, too, but can't get the PocketMac software to sync my calendar or tasks (from iCalendar). The contacts sync great (from Address Book), though. The PocketMac software is also great for syncing other files, and comes with a file browser that allows you to transfer files into your phone or your phone's SD card - muy convenient. If you're an educator/student, you can 20% off...What are you using to sync your calendar, etc.?

dang, I so waited several months for the replacement to the i550 (like the i600 but on a Palm OS, plus stylus, etc.) b/c it didn't have CallerID on the outside nor the SD card slot. Then Samsung cancelled the phone so I had to go to evil Windoze. Now I've upgraded the PocketMac and it no connect. I'm dead in the water. I've converted and I'm suffering now. ugh. I'm almost tempted to get the i550 b/c I loved PalmOS. Any regrets on ur part?
