Can the Samsung i500 be used as a modem (for a notebook computer or handheld PC) through its infrared port? I know that it can do so through a USB cable, but my friend has a Handheld PC Pro (running Windows CE 2.11/2.12) which needs to use infrared rather than USB hosting.

Ironically, his device (an NEC MobilePro 880) does have a USB hosting port, but apparently with a driver only for a mouse and perhaps a keyboard.

It can be done but it is VERY slow. The throughput of infrared is something like 5kpbs or something like that.

I am sure there is a USB modem driver for that phone.
