View Full Version : I've just Demoed the 5600 and LG 325 for an hour!

The screen on the 5600 is awesome. New Menu system that compliments the screen. The photo that depicts what it looks like is real! Very cool...
I need to see how much internal memory is in it. But that what matter much because it does utilize a mini SD card. I saw some features like copy from SD card and Move to SD card!!! The 5600 is a also a Multimedia phone... Not sure what the means yet but i'm sure it's like the Samsung MM700
So far my only gripes are
1) it's a bit heavy
2) 1Cm longer than a Vm5500
3) No Bluetooth
What Else do you guys what me to check out?
I need to put a mp3 and a jpg on it and see what happens!
Anyone has questions on the 7400? It's here too... Removable faceplates. silver and red. Multimedia. I'll check on the memory card slot... I didn't notice it.... The 5600 had my attention. I'll also check on the type of screen...
The LG 325 has a DUN profile... i think. I was able to pair it to my Aibook but I haven't been able to get it to connect to the net. For the mac addicts out there... I've been using the Sprint driver and the Au CMDA Bluetooth modem driver. Help!!! The Phone does show my laptop paired. FYI if anyone else has access to a LG 325...I had to goto the System options and turn on Visiblity to ON. And then that allowed from me to pair the phone my laptop otherwise. I was not allowed to type in my PIN for pairing.
Not sure what LG was thinking.... but it has 65k STN screen. It is a slider phone. Pretty nice. When closed it's about the size of a 5500. It feels good in my hand.
No they will not allow me to post pics... I asked already! I work for a big electronics retailer. And we had our $th quarter meeting today. The Vendors for sprint where all here. Oh yeah... for those Samsung fans. I did hold the new 760? Their first RL phone.. Neat but i'm a Sanyo fan.

Hmm.. only big question is how soon is it coming out? I got the mm700, and I love it.. I knew the 5600 was coming out, but I couldn't wait that long for it.. I needed a phone now..
The only thing that will make me feel like I missed out is if the camera is words better, because I really like the camera aspect of phones today. :)

The rep told me not to quote him... but it doens't look like if it gonna make it this xmas...Last year the 5500 came out during late November early December. Well that is at least when my commpany started carrying it. the Sprint Pcs stores or Best buy might have had it earlier but the day we first recieved it is the day i bought mine. I just hope the same thing happens again.
I mentioned that phonescoop doesn't have either phone on the site. He rebutted that even though the 7400 isn't their. It's approved on the network and they are gonna to launch it in 2-3 weeks.
Don't quote me on that... I'm just relaying info! : -)

If i was tto switch from sprint to nextel then I would look like real suckah cause nextel aint sh*t! only for dc. some of there phones start around 125 or more. sprint needs to have more of motorolala phones other than the v60v. they need to branch out more. it could be moto new ready link phone from sprint. look how long its taking samsung to come out with a ready link phone.

I "heard" that the phone was going to be offered in yellow, pink, green(not forest), and everyone's favorite-brown. Then I"heard" that the phone, with the proper programming, could double as your garage door opener and key alarm on your car. And finally, I "heard" that the battery would last 40 hours in standby, and 30 minutes when talking.
Come on, let's state facts, or at least post your sources.

The bad news is: I spent 30 mins messing... with the LG 325 and I never could get it to work with my Aibook. The good news is that unless sprint cripples it. It will have all three profiles enabled! I spoke to the Lg rep and he already knew the question before I finished asking it. Even in the brochcure they gave us for the phone, it states that is capable of it.
More goods news is that i spoke to a big dawg in the spring chain. I asked her since the LG 325 is going to be available in the next three weeks how are they going to handle it's bluetooth capabilities. She said that they are in the process of working on something good. That should make people happy. She wouldn't elaborate any further. BTW if I didn't say it yet... THe LG rep said it'll be out around Nov. 2nd!
The Sanyo rep had the 5600 put away already. But he said that it wouldn't play mp3 ringers. But I never got a chance to test that out. He might not have cut them down below 30secs. I also asked about jpg images trany to a mini sd card. He attempted that feat the other day and it didn't work. I told him to resize the images and try again. He'll get back with me on that one.
Most of the phones weren't activated so i can't answer any of those questions. Sorry...

Since the Sanyo 5600 won't have bluetooth then why even get this phone? What really cool features will this phone have that anyone would want to get?
You do understand that not everyone uses bluetooth, and very few people who buy cell phones even know what bluetooth is? If you want bluetooth then switch to Verizon, and get their semi bluetooth phone.
bluetooth is why overrated. Move on add88.

"Just wondering why the first picture the phone looks bigger than the second picture. Is just because the second picuture the slider is closed? I guess it makes it look small"
LOL> It's cuz it's the lg 325 SLIDER ^^
..pros would be 'easy one hand open and close action'. style factor.
con would be the need for a key guard of some sort. possibility of damage the screen.
[altho the 325 has the sunken screen to protect from that]

what! only half duplex. Man give me a freakin break sanyo. only if sprint and nextel would merage together then i think sanyo will get the point. Sanyo step your game up! you suckahs...........................
I agree except for the fact that Sprint would never merge with Nextel as Nextel uses iDen not cdma. nextel is the only iden carrier and i dont know much about it but heard that iden is partially government controlled or something anyway.
Anyway all Nextels phones are Motorola and yes the speakerphone is amazing and perfect, thats what i loved about them, but i ultimately left because they have no phones. They are just now getting their first camera phone, heh, but to their credit it is also video and has a nice big main and external display, its almost worth going back to nextel for but not really now that phones with other new features are coming out on other carriers.
So... basically if Moto would just make a good phone with full duplex speakerphone like on the ones made for Nextel then that woudl be perfect. The v710 speakerphone is good but i've heard it might not quite be that of the nextel motos dunno.
Sprint is getting a moto phone in jan. according to some store reps so hopefully that has a good full duplex speaker.

Can't believe the 5600 isnt' even going to make it out for christmas. thast a mistake but fine with me because i hve v710 to hold me over and this way i can compare the 5600 with teh new sprint moto phone in jan which at this point may beat out the 5600.

Damn Sanyo. The 5600 doesn't have bluetooth. That freakin sucks big time. NO BLUETOOTH AND NO FULL DUPLEX SPEAKERPHONE. I will just have to wait until the 5700 comes out.
long wait on that one.
Listen. Even though there are some strange characters who troll the forums trying to make fun of people who know what they want and demand certain features which i dont know why they waste their time doing so. I for one like others am looking for a phone with a lot of the new features all in one or at least the ones i like/want/need most.
That usually doesnt happen and you gain something and lose something else. The 5600 had/has high hopes for combining a lot of good things though and your wondering why its still worth it without bt and no full duplex speaker. For one it is going to have a 240x320 qvga screen @ i think 2.2" though maybe bigger like 2.4 and it has removable memory but so does the v710 already.
I agree in some ways this phone doesn't bring anything new to the table, it just combines a lot of good features. If you know the features of the v710 then the best way to sum it up is that the 5600 has everything the 710 has except BT but it adds a better display.
I for one might trade the bt for the better display but it dpends on the person. Of course i would rather have both but sometimes you have to weight your options in importance to you and good speakerphone is at the top of my list. i'm sure the 5600 speakerphone will good even if not full dup, hopefully it improves upon the 5500's which is still better then the toshibas. its never going to be nextel not for awhile it seems.
Eventually I'm sure there will a phone that has everything the 5600 and v710 share but with both bt and qvga screen but by then there will new things out and you are always going to gain or lose a feature.

As for BT SD cards, there are such devices, but they need to have the proper drivers to work. There are no drivers available to get them to work with the i600, but hopefully more drivers will be released now that more phones will have SD ports.

Right. I'm currently anticipating the LG 325 myself. I want Bluetooth bad! I hope it isn't crippled though. Either way, the phone looks really cool. Never used a slider before though, that could be a dealbreaker for me. Heard they could be fragile, but the same applies to clamshell phones, like my 8200.
(Oh, and BTW: I tend to edit many posts of mine, on just about every forum that I've joined. For some reason, I can never get the word out when I'm typing what I want to say, so I edit it, once I think of it simply because I can.)

I really don't see why the 5600 is sooo special. It does have some nice features, but is missing a critical feature, Bluetooth, which will be even more prediminant by the time it comes out.
This thread is for the discussion of the subject -- 5600 & 325.
I've just spent a considerable time cleaning up the mess of off-topic posts. Please stay on topic. If you wish to discuss something else, take it to a thread in another section of the forum.

What appeals to one person doesnt appeal to another....The only reason I want blootooth now is just because I want to use phone option in my Acura TL.....Before I got the car....I would have took the sanyo 5600 over the LG...Now it looks like I need to research the sd blootooth cards and see if they will be an option for me or I will be getting the slider.... :o

Ok ok, I know this is a dumb question, so don't rip into me to much lol :).....
but what is "DUN profile" that you were talking about for the LG 325? Does it mean it will be fully compatible with more things? The reason I am asking is my mom currently owns a T608 because her lexus lx470 has the bluetooth phone system BUT the T608 is not fully compatible with her car it works with some parts of the car but not most of the things and what does work doesnt work all the time. So seeing if the "DUN profile" that you were speaking of means it will work with more bluetooth functions?
Thank you for the help.

Agreed. Sprint will have a lot of BT phones available when the 5600 is finally released in the spring that it won't make a very big splash. There will also be several phones with SD and MP cameras. I'd hope that Sanyo continues to improve the 5600 since it's still going to be many months before it's released.

There might be a lot of Sprint phones with BT but will they all have the megapixel camera, SD card, and QVGA screen, and be MM? I am not praising the 5600 but i think its common sense that there will never be a phone that has everything that everyone wants. If such a phone would to come out than the companies would loose money.

are we forgetting the <sarcasm> tags? I rather take AAC ringers and a 1.3MP camera and RL and memory card
I agree with you Deval. Plus from what i've read the lg325 only has the DUN profile, handsfree profile, and headset profile. If that's all it has, what's the big deal? my data cable can do the DUN plus more, and I have a nice headset, so what if it has a wire? Can any one who has used the 325 confirm if it only has those 3 profiles or more?

I'll take a good camera and screen, coupled with a easy-to-use UI and good reception and battery life over BT anyday.
But then again, that's why they make so many phones...because everybody has different wants/needs.

I'm not looking to start a fight here, I'm a big Sprint fan, but are you sure that its a technology issue and not a "We don't want people abusing our unlimited data service"? I understand that there are only 2 cdma blue tooth phones but having even one would seem to eliminate the compatibility excuse. And what of the supposed 3mb cap for the T608? Sorry but the "BT doesn't work with cdma" reasoning sounds a bit thin.

Actually it is harder than you think to release a phone with a lot of features...
Calling the 5600 "flagship" is kinda premature...You've never seen it in person, you've never used it, you don't know what it really will have in terms of features. All you know is that yeah it's probably going to be expensive, and probably will not have Bluetooth. The LG535 will have many, if not all the same features and cost much less...So what's flagship to you? If we go by price and features, any of Sprint's PDA phones would be considered their "flagship" models...And one more thing...remember its the MANUFACTURER, not the CARRIER that decides what goes into the phones...and unfortunately all CDMA phones in the US, with the sole exception of 2 to date (the t608 & the v710) do not have BT...ever stop to wonder why? It ain't security issues and it ain't cause they (Sprint or a manufacturer) "don't want to include BT". It's because CDMA (US) and BT just don't get along well with one another...and that needs to be fixed before BT is released on more CDMA phones...otherwise the same people crying for it will be the first to chastise a carrier or manufacturer for implementing something that does not work right...Sprint is committed to bringing you the best phones out there, they just want to do it right and not make the mistakes they have made in the past. You just have to wait a little longer.
Just my 2 cents worth
It seems that the 5600 will be the "flagship" phone when it is released, unless their is a Samsung on the wings we have yet to learn about...
It is not a valid point to say that CDMA and BT don't mesh well...it would be no harder to include BT on a CDMA phone that it would be on a GSM or iDEN phone...
Again...it is a dumb decision not to put the Blue Tooth feature on this phone...

I thought the lack of CDMA BlueTooth phones was because of the minority of CDMA users, compared to GSM. That makes more sense anyway.

I hear all of ya...
The reason I said that CDMA and BT don't mesh well with one another is that they are very close in the RF Spectrum, 2.5 gigahertz for BT and 1.9 gighertz for CDMA. Most GSM carriers, the one's who have the most BT implementation, here and abroad utilize the GSM 800/850, cause that's what the majority of their networks were built as, I understand that some GSM networks reside in the PCS 1.9 gigahertz frequency band, but the majority don't, thus GSM 800/850 making for a more harmonious mixing of the two radio technologies. That's why inferior technologies need BT...to make up for their lack of true data speeds, call capacities etc. CDMA while probably the best technology in the US right now, has those things and has to refine it's implementation of BT so it can be used without simple interference, being able to use it all the time, not just some of the time. Ever tried to use BT on a CDMA phone near your Wi-Fi network at home? It isn't pretty alot of the time. Why, cause they are very close in frequency. Even with BT's built in signal hopping it is still susceptible. Bluetooth is more susceptible to interference and including it with CDMA before refining it has been a disaster. Carrier & manufacturer R&D has made BT integration to CDMA better than it was, and that will be evidenced by the upcoming PPC6600/6601, LG325 and other models which will make it to our hands very soon. I know there are high-level talks about data misuse, but that really isn't a deciding factor in whether a carrier of manufacturer implements BT...Why?
1. Because most people don't know what the heck BT is...and.
2. Because wireless data is not a huge market here in North America. It will be, but for right now it isn't.
The real question is...Do you want a technology that works 90% of the time, or only 40% of the time with your chosen CDMA phone? I choose 90% and will wait patiently.
That is still not a valid argument...
SE T608, MOTO V710, LG 325...They are all BT...
Go to Asia, and see how many CDMA phones include BT...
That is simply not a valid argument....

I'll concede that they might be Sanyo's flagship CDMA phones for North America maybe...As for Sprint's flagship models...not really.
Sanyo 5500 was the flagship when it was released...now the Samsung A700 is the flagship...It looks like it will continue this way until the 5600...
Bluetooth isn't a priority and is a pain to me, due to its short range of function. But the feature set and memory of the 5600 with the MIDP 2.0 J2me profile is better even without blootoof IMO!

I'm not defending bluetooth here, and I agree with most of what you said, but the technology (CDMA/GSM) and frequency that it runs on (1900/800) are independant variables.
Verizon runs 800mhz CDMA in almost all of thier markets.
T-mobile has an all 1900mhz network.
ATT/Cingular do use GSM 850 now, but they both initially deployed GSM in the 1900mhz band.
In Europe they use the 1800mhz band and they also have plenty of bluetooth phones.

^ Now see, that's a good reason of why to want Bluetooth. That will change how you use your phone in a significant way.
Other than people with TL's, what are you going to do with your teeth of blue once you get a phone with it? Buy a $100+ wireless headset? Share a business card with someone?
There is more then one car with BT. There are headsets for under $100, and there are for the well inclined and will continue to be more and more uses for bt. That being said you are right it is not the most useful or most needed super important feature for a lot of people.
For now, it is just an added bonus and like anything else if you have it you learn to use it and like it and soon you wonder how you lived without it or in this case you might not be able to go back to a phone that doesn't have it.
For me and a lot of users now and what will continue to be a more important feature or must have is removable memory which the 5600 will have so that is more important and useful then bt. It would be great to have both but in the case of comparing the 5600 to the Motorola v710 which seems to have all the same features except it has bt and the 5600 has the better display witht he qvga, i would also probably rather have the nicer display even if they are the same size screen, then the bt i think. its tough choice and i think many might choose the bt over the screen if they dont see a difference or aren't big on that but after using the toshiba phone i really appreciate the qvga display.
the 5600 seems to have everything I and many users would want for now in a phone except bt and the 710 seems to have everything except a qvga main display. at least its 2.2" though.
I dont know of any other flip phones out now or coming out that will have all this so these seem to be the two to compare.

Hey Deval...I know that the profiles for the upcoming PPC6601 will include Headset, Handsfree, File Transfer, DUN, LAN & Active Sync...sounds pretty good to me.
On another note...I just wish everyone would stop complaining about BT and the "lack" of functionality...its the phone manufacturer, not the carrier who disables or cripples BT.

t608:

ok thank you for clarifying that. not sure what SE support is and dont care much if there isn't sprint support but can't do it with no sms. that sucks because it would be a lot cheaper to find a t608 , few and far between though they are then get the lg.
I might have to get the bt lg 325 to hold me over until the 5600.
Also i just want to say that I agree somewhat with enmoulot about it being a missed opportunity on the 5600 to not have bt, but I dont mind in this case sacrificing bt for the qvga display which is what the difference comes down to wiht the only other realistic bt phone the v710 right now.
i do know what he meant by flagship phone though i guess the other guys point is , its not that clear cut, but i wouldn't consider pda phones flagship. Nor would i consider the lg 325 bt slider phone one one and i dont think it has mostly all the same features of the 5600 for much less money as he said.
With the date getting pushed back more on the 5600 as i'm hearing like Feb./mar and spring instead of Nov./Dec./Jan the bt lg 325 slider might be a nice hold over until then though to me it doesn't compare or replace it but it will make a nice 2 phone combo to have both as they are diff enough. Often to get the best of both worlds or all features you want it takes 2 phones similiar to ppl having the toshiba phone and the 5500. ie. you get the qvga display and you get closed flip speakerphone and better video etc. with the 5500.

I have a Samsung A500 and I am done with my previous contract. I'm assuming I'll qualify for $150 off the LG 325, right?
Anyone know what my service options will be?
I'm thinking I could benefit from a Fair & Flexible plan, as long as it includes PCS-to-PCS and a reasonable amount of Vision use (if BlueTooth lets me browse the web / email with my Palm T3). I hear so much about getting retention plans, should I even attempt to go that route? "I'm going to switch to _____ unless you give me what I want." :eyebrow: Something tells me SprintPCS won't care.
I've really wanted BlueTooth for about a year now. Should I be excited, or will this whole situation probably prove to be less than satisfactory?

the problem with sprint, and yes, i see it as a problem, is that so many of the phones out there are way too similar. silver flips with cameras/video or simple dunctioning candybars. add some RL, a random smartphone to the mix and you have sprint lineup.
until sprint gets a real BT phone (whic will be soon), despite how many people say "who gives a crap about BT", it'll remain a problem.

Are you SERIOUS about that $249.99 price?!?!?! Ahh! I know I gotta have one now! :)
Ahh, the 8500. Friend of mine still uses hers, works great even with those dents and cracks. Bulletproof phone.
Yeah, both my 8500 and A400 still work today :)

I wouldn't mind the 5600 or the 325 but as I have said before I'm not about to buy a phone the first day or week it's out... that's just asking for trouble
oh and my first phone *sighs* wow I've never been with another company other than Sprint. I did however take a year or so off and just had a pager.
speaking of my first sprint phone ( I know it's a bit off topic but check out this Ebay auction... look at what they have listed for other prices...

It's the same way with cars. Never buy the brand new make and model. Sprint it seems has a bad habit of rushing phones out before they are completely ready for the world (like how they just admited that the A700 has a few too many problems).
If I was getting either the LG or the Sanyo, I'd wait for the first adopters here in the forum to get it first, and see what problems they find.

Sanyo is one of the best brands at releasing virtually bug-free (software wise) handsets on the first run, just look at the 8100. I heard about some crippling A700 problems (tons of freezing) just weeks before it was released directly from a Sprint rep who had a prototype version of the a700.
I plan on buying the 5600 as soon as it becomes available, I hear it's gonna be a real winner.

LOL...what a bunch of BS :hee:
There might be a lot of Sprint phones with BT but will they all have the megapixel camera, SD card, and QVGA screen, and be MM? I am not praising the 5600 but i think its common sense that there will never be a phone that has everything that everyone wants. If such a phone would to come out than the companies would loose money.
I hate to say this as ppl seem to get mad when this model is mentioned as its for the cdma competetor and not for us sprintusers but the Motorola v710 does have all of these features plust bt. the only thing it doesnt have is the qvga screen but it is still decent res at 176x220 or whatever it is and is the same size 2.2" as the 5600 will be and the main thing is that it has already been out since begin of Sept. and not January or later.
I am the same way looking for one phone with all the features and usually it doesn't happen that is why i had to get the Toshiba after already having the 5500 back when they came out, but the v710 and the 5600 are so so close, just each missing one thing. Just a shame how long they are taking to release the 5600 and that there to myself and others there hasn't been a phone in the sprint lineup worth getting since those 2.

On a lighter note: Looks like the page for the 325 is almost up. Only thing there is "Out of stock"
Wonder how much longer until we can see some specs and pics? :)

Dear God Get Over Bluetooth. Most People Don't Use It. That Is Why More Phones Don't Have It.
People don't use it cause it's new. The applications for BT are endless. If everyone would start creating the hardware for use with BT you would then see how many people used it. You are supposed to be able to do everything like control the temp. in your refrigerator to stopping your grandmothers life support equipment all from the palm of your hand. For now though BT in a phone... yeah pretty much just the wireless headset.
