I bought the new Samsung MM-A700 phone yesterday. First impressions were good, basic phone functions and the camera/camcorder work fine. However, the Vision service could not be provisioned no matter what we did...in-store provisioning, manually programming the phone with the help of tier 2 Sprint tech support, etc. We concluded that the handset in question may be faulty (after a while it started to lock up whenever I would try to access the web), so I got a replacement unit today. Same exact issues...unable to log into the web, it times out whenever you try with an error 1012. Fortunately, the phone doesn't lock up...that may have been a manual programming error. The phone absolutely refuses to connect to the vision service no matter what is done. The fact that this is happening with two different handsets is inexplicable. I had a Sanyo 5300 with vision service for over a year that worked fine, does anybody have any ideas as to why this might be happening? I have already spent 5-6 hours both on the phone with Sprint customer service and waiting around in their wonderful stores and I have made zero progress. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

I'm not sure why your vision isan't working. Not sure if this would help or hurt but could you change vision user name? When I bought my 700 the week it came out my vision worked in a hour. I've switched phones a few times and for some reason it took 6 hrs one time. Usally it's pretty quick. I do get errors every once in awhile but if I hit retry it usally works. My 700 has locked up a few times but no big deal. I think you just got some bad luck because I haven't heard of anyone else having vision setup issues. The phone that you were using before is off right?

I also got an A700 today. I still don't have Vision and it's 24 hours. I tried calling tech support and they keep resetting it. Still doesn't work :furious:

I had this same issue. Tech support said that it was not a known issue, but that were a few others. One was that the screen would fade out permanently. Tech support also said that Samsung claims that they are all software issues, and the "soon-to-be-released" (yeah, right) update would fix them. I simply had to swap my A700 for a new one.

I had problems with provisioning also and this is all I did to make it work.
Go to menu/settings/PCS Vision/Update profile
If that doesn’t work then Sprint CS does NOT know what they are doing. Most have no idea what the "Multimedia Vision Pack" is. You need to make sure they have that on your account.

Meant it locking-up and rebooting when attempting to access vision. I quoted wrong post in my original message. Sorry

I had the same problem yesterday. My phone works fine today. It was not holding the MSID#. You can check and see if this is your problem by looking at your phones settings, option 9 Phone info then option 1 phone number. Your MSID# should reflect your phone number, if not you wont be able to access any vision services. The technician flashed my phone yesterday and it has worked fine since. Unfortunately, they can not fix it over the phone. You have to take it to the tech at the store.

I finallly got the vision working by taking it into the store. Unfortunately I swapped out the handset AGAIN (number 3) because I thought the earpiece might be faulty, the sound was a little choppy. Again, Vision is not working! I'm going to take it back to the store but that's 3 different handsets with the same problem, not being able to access vision. Coincidence? I think not!

You need to allow Vision to provision for 24 hours. If you try to access Vision within these 24 hours it will ruin the provisioning process and no wonder it had the problem again. Vision is hardly ever a handset issue and almost always a user error trying to access Vision before it is provisioned.

That's BS. Vision should work regardless. I've had numerous phones on SPCS in the past and tried Vision before I had it provisioned and it worked just fine.

I worked as a tech for Sprint and I know more about Vision than likely anyone on this board. Trust me when I tell you that after your activate your account you need to give time for Vision to provision properly. Sure, it can provision right away, or it may take time. And many times when you first try to go on the web it may provision properly then but it doesn’t always work out that way. Anyone that works at Sprint can tell you in reality it usually takes 1-4 hours to provision. Can you explain to me in technical terms how Vision comes on the phone when you buy it? That is just ridiculous. 2 things need to happen to make Vision work.
1. you need to activate the phone. Anyone knows this.
2. you need to activate/”provision” the Vision service on your 3G handset.
They are two separate processes.

Andy,
Please look at what you wrote above. You said that the software update just came in TODAY. And then you tell everyone with this problem go to the store to get the software update.
If there is a new software update then I ask you to go to your phone:
Press the <Menu> key
Then press # <7> key
Then press # <9> key
Then press # <3> key
Then reply to us what you have written under the PRL line. Here is mine for instance:
S:ES.A700 XG23
H:A700.08
If you do not respond then we can not believe there is a software update.
Thank you

Im having vision problems too. I just got my A700 last night. i ported my number over. The guy at the store said it would work for outgoing calls right away but not receiving for a little while. Well, that wasnt the case, it asked me for a credit card to make a call. Now I can make outgoing, but not receive. This just started 20 mins ago. I tried Vision, and it is unable to connect error 1012. Then I press the softkey OK. No matter what button I push It says Powering On, and my phone turns on again......
ohh heres what i have

if you are having 1012 problems, dont keep trying to log on, if your info isnt correct the 1st time, its not gonna fix itself the 100th time. Best bet is to get it reprovisioned

How long ago did you work at Sprint, because you apparently don't know what's going on now. Yes, vision (along with voice) can take up to 4 hrs, but normally takes only about 5 mins for the network to be provisioned. IOTA (what you call activate/"provision") starts at this time, as soon as the network is provisioned. This is called a network initiated IOTA. This happens on provisioning or any changes to the vision acct such as password changes and resets, username changes, MDN changes, etc. Handset initiated IOTA occurs when you select the web and never have been provisioned in slot 1 of the handset or when you "update data profile" in the vision menu of the phone. Trying to launch the web when it is not networked provisioned will not disrupt provisioning, you will only get a 1012 error.
This is the problem Sprint is having with the A700 handset right now. Any IOTA is not being performed by the handset. This is why we are sending people to the stores, to do a over the wire IOTA instead of a network IOTA until this problem is resolved.

Put away the haterade. I got
S:ES.A700 XG23
H: A700.08
So obviously for me there was no upgrade involved, just wire provisioning. All is well with Vision. What happened was, the a-hole at the store I went to yesterday didnt know what he was doing. Finally today all is well as I went to another store.

I was unable to get provisioned over the wire. The Level 2 Sprint customer service guy was able to talk me through it by getting me into the service menu (I think it's ##3284#) and then entering the phone's IP address and other provisioning info manually. This made it work after a reboot, and I haven't had any trouble since. However, having had the identical problem with three MM A700 handsets I think it's safe to say that there's a definite problem with these handsets working with Vision (or vice versa).

I worked at Sprint as a tech just about a year ago now. Provisioning depends on how many other people are trying to provision on the PCS network. It can be congested and take much longer than likely in your small city. I worked in downtown Los Angeles where there was an extremely high number of activations/provisions going on. So you are mistaken that it is just one or two factors it is many.
We were specifically trained over and over again at the Irvine Sprint Training center not to try an access the web while provisioning because it would disturb the process. If you say this is not true, you have a large group of Sprint trainers that disagree with you.

It was NOT the A700's fault for vision not working...it was SprintPCS...
I have had phones work right out of the box for vision...
My A620 took 48 hours to start working...

Randomly, the assigned ringers for people in my address book change on me. One day, it's Jet, the next day it's Mario Brothers. Very strange. And no, one of my sneaky friends isn't changing them on me.
Anyone had this happen to them?

The following issues have been identified with the Samsung MM-A700 handset:
Newly activated MM-A700s are not able to complete an IOTA session, and the device will receive a 1012 error. The problem will be fixed this week.
There have also been sporadic reports of the MM-A700 "freezing" on launch of the internet browser, Media Player or "Get New" requests of the vending machine. As a work-around, these devices can be re-flashed in Sprint retail stores. A software maintenance release will be available in the next few weeks to resolve the issue.

YES, I hear this too.... I also notice a "click or pop" noise as well... sometimes at the end of the word or beginning of a word that the person on the other end is saying..... Its very subtle... But its there....Listen for it and let me know if you hear it too......
Also, see my post:
I've noticed oddness when talking to people in noisy enviornments too. I can hear the person I'm talking to with no problems but the background noise seems to cut in and out. For example if I'm talking to someone near a loud TV, the caller comes through clear but I only hear every other word on the TV. I don't find it to be a problem at all but found it a little strange.
I talked to SAMSUNG and they are aware of the problem. They will address it in the upcoming firmware release in 1 - 3 mths.... There is a way to turn the AGC filter off in the "test" menu if anyone knows what option it is in there. Ya press 47*869#1235 to get in. WARNING: YOU CAN MESS YOUR PHONE UP IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING IN THIS MENU!!!

Problems getting Java apps such as Reqwireless' WebViewer and EmailViewer to work properly (both apps worked like a charm on my old phone). When the apps try to load up a web page or talk to an email server and don't get a response within 2 or 3 seconds, the app just sits there and doesn't resubmit the request. Eventually, the app times out. Anyone else?
Phone sometimes freezes up for no apparent reason. Anyone else?

If anyone is getting a 1012, call customer service again and again until you get an employee that realizes that the activation procedure is "different" for the A700. I'm not sure what the actual difference is, but I had the 1012 problem until I got ahold of the right rep. The rep was actually quite helpful, BTW. Don't trust the store employees.

Hey Sprintemployee:
What can I say to the Sprint CSRs to get them to authorize the return of my defective A700? So far, I've had no luck. Sprint doesn't consider the A700 to be defective and just keeps telling me that I'm past the two week trial period.

I told sprint about it a few days ago along with other issues. I got a open ticket on it and I'll probally call back tomorrow to see if anything has changed.

Its not the new firmware causing it... I have had it happen with BOTH versions. It is the sprint network that cant handle the data traffic. Everyone needs to call and complaine!!

Haven't been able to use AIM since I got the A700. It just doesn't work, and if you can log in you can't send any messages except smiley's. Now any vision activities do not work and it just locks up the phone. I have to take it in in a few days to see what they can do to fix it.
Sounds like the MM700 is a real winner :eyeroll:

I just got my mm-a700 upgraded to the newest firmware and I AM REGRETING IT.
I can not use it as a modem anymore. It does not respond to anything(Snapsync, Snapmedia, etc) Before the upgrade I could use it for everything ans was quite impressed with the speeds. Any thoughts??? Thanks

I am 99% sure this was not due to the upgrade.
1. What upgrade sw version do you have?
2. Likely you just lost your driver settings. Make sure your PC sees the phone in the device manager.
3. They could have messed up your port while doing the upgrade. Unlikely but possible.

not haivng ANY issues with my A700
can surf fine, no pic issues, messaging great camera is awesome, MSN works great mobile use AIM works fine, e-mail works fine, hard time finding anything that i use that does NOT work fine.
phone is awesome, have had no issues with sound at ll, can use it in a bar or room with no cutout.
overall thsi phone blows away my GF 8200, my mothers 8200 and my sisters 8200
all three of them have had to take the phones back for issues ranging from camera not wokring to speakerphone not wokring to the flash busting to issues with logging into aim(something almost no sprintuser can do) to not being able to log into the vision network.
so i guess maybe i got the only GOOD A700 but aparently i have been lucky as hell wiht this. oddly enough i will not be changing phones til i get a comparble phone with comparable features. for what i want/need it to do.

Yep, thats the original manufactures release with known problems. You phone does have the problems since the code in it is flawed like everyone elses. Samsung knows about the problems and is working a fix.

XG23? XJ13 is the latest firmware. Is that what you meant?

I went to my local store and they said the latest version for the A700 is XG23 and they put it on my phone. I had XJ13 when they upgraded it. I called spcs and they said XG23 is the latest.

Oh Boy, somehow, somewhere , someone lied to you. period. I'm not making fun or trying to start WWIII by no means. Just letting you know that XG23 shipped with the MM-A700. XJ13 is the latest firmware. Also J comes AFTER G so like most software devs do, they enumerate their patches and updates in this fashion.

Looks like i'm going to be making another trip to my local sprint store again today, in the rain. Thanks for letting me know. I aksed the service tech if XG23 was the latest and replaces XJ13 and he said yes.

i love this
"you phone is broke you just don't know it"
no....no it is not
the AIM issue is something almost all sprint users have, so that aside i can log into msn, i can do surifng no issues, i have no cutout on my headset(matter of fact it works better than any of the sanyos my family have)
again, i don't care if samsung releases the cure for aids in the next firmware upgrade, unless it is something i HAVE to have like camera with lid shut....i will not be getting it.

The firmware has BUGs in it! Period! Samsung admitted to the bugs (call them yourself if you dont believe me).. Period! Your phone DOES HAVE THE BUGS.. period! Your just to oblivious to notice them. Period! Case closed!

A lot of people are driving around in cars that have parts in them that have been recalled.... they are broken... .However, if the driver is unaware of the recall, he thinks the car is just fine.... but it isnt... Just the the MM-A700 cell phone w/ the current firmware version.... get it....

We know this but we don’t care. We don’t use the functions that you use thus we never see it. There is so much hostility in your voice. I am curious to why? This is a discussion forum and we are here to discuss.

My 2 cents
I bought a a700 a week ago today, the picture and video upload never worked. I took it back and got my money back after many many trips to the sprint store and several "e tickets" not to mention a "flash" and developing a first name basis friendship with a couple level 2 tech folks. After reading all the posts here regading this phone, I lost all hope that it would be anything it claims to be. It's a concept phone. A prototype for things to come. Great idea but not a completed project and definatly not a consumer ready product.
My VGA1000 is still a killer phone and looks even better the 2nd time. :)
Thanks for all your posts, they helped me put my bad a700 deal to bed.

Mine works great too.. I've never had any of the problems that this thread is discussing... <grateful>
I have the firmware that was shipped with the phone XG23...
I went and looked at some of the new phones Samsung i600, Treo 650 and for the cost and possible problems they have... I'll be staying with my A700 for awhile... and I'm definately not going to upgrade the firmware.. if it (mine) ain't broke...

My picture mail was freezeing all the time when I first got my phone. I could never load a complete picture. However when I deleted the offending picture it would load just fine. Come to find out that the firmware supposedly updates the camera and how it saves pics. Apparently it was uploading corrupted pictures. All has been well and I really love my MM-A700. and if you think about it. all phones are really just "Concept" phones. No company is ever satisified with just one version of their product. Everyone is constantly trying to make a bigger badder money generator. Well except for slinkies. I don't slinkies where in a "concept" phase.

Wait a minute. According to the futuredial site, snapmedia isn't compatible with the A700. Was this a mistake or are you actually able to upload/download camera pictures and media (apps, games, ringers, etc) from the phone? I've been looking for a decent solution as I don't want to pay for vision just to use the camera (I don't need to use the net services enough to justify the $15/mo charge).

SnapSYNC supports the A700 but not SnapMEDIA. There is no way to get ringers, pictures, or videos off your A700 with a data cable.

That's what I was wondering. Even the BitPIM development team has the A700 set off limits. Too bad, I was hoping there was something new that would enable using a cable to make the camera more practical.
Does anyone know if Futuredial anticipates A700 support being added to SnapMedia?

Nobody can answer that question. If you ask Futuredial they will tell you “next week” or “in our next build”. I have been round and round with them on this and they flat out lie to keep you hanging on. That is really not good to do with a business. They should be setting the proper expectation to the customers instead of flat out lying. We used to sell their software but have stopped partially for this reason.
