View Full Version : Upgrade: VGA 1000 vs Sanyo 7300 vs 8200

My Dad wants to Upgrade from his crappy LG 5350. What do you guys thing a good upgrade would be? VGA 1000, Sanyo 7300, and Sanyo 8200? He doesn't care about a Camera, but he might like the Samsung Voice dialing thing, though the Sanyo Voice Tagging isn't that bad either, since the 5350 has neither. He really wants something that won't fall apart. I work at Radio Shack and I see alot of VGA 1000s going in for repair....

What do you think?

Only thing I would say about the 3 listed, is for the SMS. The vga1000 still has shortmail, but if he doesn't text message, it wouldn't make a difference. Good luck.

not sure if they vga 1000 has the nice voice dialing system the new ones do or not..

i would go with the 8200 out of the phones just for its compactness and feature set..

my sanyo 8100 was pretty tuff. It survived MANY drops. the 8200 is susposed to be superior to it

I had the VGA1000, and will probably won't go to Samsung Heaven for saying this, but I think your Dad should get the 7300. It's durable, has Speakerphone, and is loud. It makes calls, and I'm sure that's all your Dad wants it to do anyhow. If you work at Radioshack, I'm surpirsed you're asking us. You can get your hands on the phones and see what's best.

Yeah, I'd recommend a 7300, too. You never see people complain about that phones' build quality...heck I hardly ever see anyone complain about the phone period.
Maybe the earpiece stuff, but even that is rare.

Yeah he ended up by the 7300, it came down do what I know, and trust. In the last 2 months I've sent in 1 Sanyo Phone into repair for every 5 Samsungs. I guess I just want him having the dependibility.

Do you feel better, now, enmulout?

Everyone knows you think the new Sanyo earpieces suck. Drilled into our skulls.

This reminds me of something I did in bio my freshman year of high school. Orca whales should not be called killer whales. Every time my bio teacher said "killer" I said orca just loud enough...

Finally, my teacher said, are you going to do that every time I say killer? And I was like, uh, no, I guess I've made my point.

So, enmulout, could you perhaps grow up and bit and do the same thing?

It's been gettin' on my nerves for months.

BTW, NightWinggl, I hope your dad likes the phone. I'm sure that he will.

Now then, where is that ignore button?

There are a few on here who seem to flame someone for either an honest question, or an honest answer. Most people would enjoy a "flameless" forum. Quill, you most definitely spoke the truth. Can't count all the Samsung versus Sanyo threads. They are indeed ridiculous! Most of us are happy with the Phones we got for whatever reason. Why can't people respect that? Sorry for getting on my soapbox, and wouldn't have said anything, but dang, that was a good reply by Quill and Pay!

I love Sanyos, I owned an 8100 before my 5500. I think theye are great. I think Samsungs good too. However, I feel that samsungs have more repair issues then Sanyos. I can back that up with the repair log from work...

Dude, you miss the point entirely.

You go out of your way to knock the Sanyo earpiece when it is something that is subjective. You have made your point, over and over and over.

Don't you think it's up to the OP to decide if he's satisfied with the input he's getting?

You know, if you just said, hey, look, I for one am not a fan of the Sanyo earpiece because it sounds like X,Y, and Z to me, I think that wouldn't be so difficult to deal with.

But, you don't. You insist in being arrogant and obnoxious about it. Repeatedly. And it's getting old. That is my point.

And from other people's input, I am not the only one who finds your contributions regarding the earpiece less than useful.

why dont you get over it that you didnt like the earpiece? I mean, every newbie doesnt need to scared into the horrors of the earpiece of the Sanyo. At least its not like the one on the Samsung 680 which blows out in about 2 months :hee:

I agree, it is simply not that serious that he's making it seem. I could see if it was recalled or something and it was a serious problem. But for something subjective you really don't need to keep rehashing it on every single thread that says anything about Sanyo.

To the OP: I would've gotten the 7300. That's what I wanna get my dad whenever he gets off his VZW contract.

Regarding the earpiece issue, I was a little concerned when I bought the 8200. I listened to it and it was fine in the 3-4 months that i've had it. I was also concerned when I added my girl onto my account. I told her to consider both phones. She said it was something she wouldn't have noticed unless someone specifically pointed it out to her. She got the 8200 and has been happy with it for the most part.

Regarding the number of returns, Samsung may have more being returned for issues than Sanyo, but does any1 kno the amount that are sold of each and what that ratio is?

There. Put it like that. You come off like an all-knowing ass otherwise, especially given that there are equal numbers of people who disagree as agree with you regarding the earpiece issue.

It's not up to me or anyone other than an admin or a mod to decide who is welcome here, but if you can't handle people questioning your opinion, then you need to seriously reconsider the way you approach posting on this board.

But, I want to throttle you after reading for the 500th time that the Sanyo earpiece is crap because it is subjective and you know it. Don't you realize that you don't have to keep saying it? It is not necessary. Your role on this board need not be to continually say this. It's beyond annoying.

And yes, I personally have used many of the phones currently available for Sprint in one way or another and don't have the sensitivity that you claim to.

But, hey, I'm only a chronic allergy and upper respiratory sufferer who can hardly hear out of her right ear. Gosh knows a crappy earpiece would be beyond my ability to detect.

Post your opinions. Just learn how to not be an ass about it. Your abrasiveness is what puts people off. The sooner you recognize this, the better. Anything is within the realm of possibility.

Well, I've been holding in, is enmulout doesn't want to talk apples to apples, with his A-680, wanting to compare the A-680 to the 8200, he has no where to talk! Everyone likes their kind of phone! I've been a Sanyo person ever since the 4900, and have had 3 different ones! Some people live by their brand, and so be it! Don't go knocking other people who like other phones. Samsung has had their fair share of problems, or should we talk about them, but we don't scare other users away by trashing them. I have a 4920, and as long as I have the earpiece down, I have no problem with it. Maybe you need to do some research before you start downing other people's phones! Ok, my .02 is over with, and hope I didn't tick too many people off.

You have learned nothing from my posts. You are so defensive and narrow-minded and unwilling to concede until pushed to the edge a point that would be very reasonable to concede that what that says about you is that you are a brick wall.

All I am asking is that you try and see it from other people's perspectives, but your head is so far up your ass you can't even comprehend my point.

I've never owned a Sanyo phone before the 8200, I've used my friends 4900 from time to time and find it a great little phone. I also used to use my ex-gf's older Sanyo (don't remember the model but it was the one that looks like the 4900 but didn't have vision and had a blue backlight screen) also a decent little phone. I've owned and used plenty of Samsungs.

The earpiece as everyone has said on the 8200 is subjective. I have no problem with it at all. And please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't someone say at full volume the earpiece on the 8200 sounds bad unlike the a680? I don't know about anyone else with the 8200 but if I had it at full volume I'd blow my eardrums because it's loud. I only keep mine on either the second or third to lowest setting.

If you're going to post about a phones shortcomings at least think about how you are compareing it and don't just say x phone sucks because of a point that doesn't really have any hard backing other than a few opinions.

As far as calling the people who like Sanyos saying they are biased it's kinda like the pot calling the kettle black because you're doing the same thing about the Samsungs.

And I'm done.

No, becasue myself, and alot of others do...Sanyo needs to get off their ass and fix it...

What Sanyo ear piece problem???? neither of my Sanyos have had this issue, nor did the 7300 I got my Dad. Infact i can only remember one Customer I have ever had complain about the Ear piece (8200), when we replaced the phone with the same model, she came back and said it was fine.

NightWinggl, exactly, there is no problem. Mine sounds fine to me. It just sounds muddled to some others. Everyone hears different. In my opinion, Nokias make the person on the other end sound like a computer, in a way. I can't remember what the Samsung's earpiece sounds like... since I haven't used one in a long time.

Good luck with that 7300!

I never told you to STFU. I'm just wondering if you will ever realize that we all get what you've said and it need not bear endless repeating.

What my posts say about me is that I have the right to not put up with your useless contributions and I'm going to say so. Don't like it, too bad.

I don't like your posts about the earpiece, but clearly I have no choice to put up with it either, but I won't do so without protest.

I respect that some people like the Sanyo earpeice. Fine, great, call Geroge Bush. Its fine if someone likes it, and I don't. But don't go around telling me that I am a "rock" or that my head is up me ass. I am willing to accept that people like the speaker, I don't. What don't you all get...?

When someone asks for an oppinion on what phone is right for them, you'd better be damn sure that I would tell them about how the Sanyo earpeice is bad. The OP needs to be able to distinguish that between fact and oppinon, and the earpeice being bad is clealy subjective. Just becasue I am deemed annoying for bringing up the earpeice being bad issue more than you would like doesn't give anyone the right to call me a troll, to the stfu, or that I have "my head up my ass".

sorry hun...if it makes you feel any better, my A620 works fine :)

I had a Motorla C331g at Cingular...

The first one stopped playing ringers out of its poly speaker...

second one got dropped into pool...turned on, but the 7, 8, 9 line of keys would not operate

3rd was stolen...

Cingular was very good with replacing all of the phones, even though one was water damaged...even though I dought they checked that...

Everytime they would just take the removable front and rear covers and side grips off (which served as the entire phones housing [had an internal batery]), and go get a new one out of a box, take that ones covers and grips off, and put my old housing onto it.

I was ready both times I went to the Cingular store to pay full retail for a new phone since I didn't have insurance, but I guess not :) I must say Cingular suprised me on that occasion...

I like how Cingular does their insurance claims. You make the claim in the store and LockLine tells them what phone to replace your phone with if the model is no longer current. You pay the deductible and get a new phone.
