Is anyone else having trouble with the mobile version of MSN Messenger? I can finally log on and see my contacts online, but when I send an IM, it seems to vanish into thin air. The same is true when someone tries to IM me from their PC. Are there some major bugs in MSN Messenger?

I can get the IM's, I just can't respond. Same with AIM.

Has anyone else had any luck establishing two-way communications using AIM mobile or MSN Mobile messenger?

ctnchrisw:

You need to go to msn.com from your PC, sign in (of course), then click on "mobile" on the middle left of the page. You can then set up your mobile MSN. You'll then be able to log in and see your friends online. If you send messages, they won't get delivered, however. If your friends IM you, you won't get 'em via SMS - like with AIM - but you will be able to sometimes see the messages if you refresh the MSN Mobile screen. I sent some feedback to Microsoft and will post what I hear here when I get a reply from them.

If you want to use AIM, you'll have to set yourself up at http://mymobile.aol.com/portal/im/index.html via your PC first. AIM works a little bit better than MSN Mobile, but there are still some errors returned to the browser on the A700. Not sure if AIM and MSN mobile are both buggy in general, or just with newer phones like the A700.

Otherwise, the A700 is an awesome phone.

By a little bit better, do you mean you can reply with AIM? Cause i can't.

I can get AIM and MSN to receive messages, but not send. SnapSync doesn't work on this phone either. No 3rd party features seem to work on this phone: no MSN, no AIM, no SnapSync. Is anyone else having any luck?

Should I return the phone and maybe switch to another carrier? Or, does AOL, Microsoft, and FutureDial all put out crappy software?!?!

BTW: I do software development and some tech support for a living. I am no idiot when it comes to technology. I'd hate to be the "average Joe" trying to use these so-called features.

Well, I did a bit of research and found out that two-way instant messaging is NOT supported by Sprint PCS.

Go here for more info: http://mymobile.aol.com/portal/im/icons.html

Note that I spent a fair amount of time on the phone with Sprint customer service and they couldn't tell me this fact.

So, basically, one CANNOT SEND IMs from AIM on their Sprint PCS phone.

As for MSN Mobile messenger, I have sent an email to Microsoft and will post an update here when I hear back from them.

Can any Sprint employees here confirm whether one can SEND messages via AIM from a Sprint phone?

Ericm,

I never had any luck with MSN Mobile - and Microsoft support never responded to my messages sent to tech support. Seems typical of Microcrap.

I spent hours emailing MSN and Sprint. The MIC 603 error is a content error. MSN says it's Sprints fault. Sprint says it's Microsoft's fault. Sprint put Microsoft "on notice" or they will have their service removed from the SprintPCS portal. That's laughable since I talked with Sprint in June and at that time they put Microsoft on a 30 day notice.

Alternatively, I had used the downloaded MSN Messenger App. It worked for a while and then had the same authentication/content errors. I railed the Sprint PCS agent why they could charge 2.99 for something that didn't work and that if it's a paid service I would expect some effort on a technical support issue. They gave me the standard line about putting MSN on notice. Grrrrr. The Yahoo wap messenger works great.

Have you noticed that you can't receive SMS messages from someone using MSN IM on their PC? If someone right-clicks on your name in MSN Messenger they have the option of "Sending message to their mobile device". The messages never come through.

The other night I downloaded the MSN app to my 940 because a guy from work called and wanted to be able to ask me some questions while he was working on a project, without having to call me. He also doesn't use AIM. So... I download the app and it runs fine. But then I come in to work yesterday morning and all of the sudden when they click on my name to send me an IM, it tells them it will go to my mobile device. Even though I'm not signed on from a mobile device. If I go into the settings and tell it to NOT let people send messages to my mobile device, clicking on my name opens an email to my email address.

And, I'm a pretty smart girl, but I can't figure out -- for the life of me -- how to get it back to the way it was so you can actually IM me and not my dang phone.

I've got the A940 and have had trouble with MSN since the start... If go under portals >>> MSN>>> Messenger it askes for my U/N P/W then after I enter them it takes me to a screen marked Proxy Pass... (cant' make it scroll) asking for realm and Password. So I tried to download the application instead. First night it would DL. Next night I got it DL'd and it worked great. Spent like 4 hours having convos before going to bed.

Next morning it would ring saying someone IMed me, but not show the message nor were people seeing mine. So I signed out and attempted to sign in, and haven't been able to sign in on my phone since.

Sorry about the double post but I figure this might help some of us.

I have my MSN working properly now. MSN seems to have an issue where if you set it to always allow it to access the network, it changes itself to never allow. I went under applications, Highlighted MSN and selected options. Then I set each option to "Always Ask" Everytime I use MSN It asks me whether to allow it to access the network and I select "Allow until exit." It fixed the problem for me.
