thanks everyone for the quick response - we got the testers we needed and found a few bugs (ringtone creation) that we will address before release (I know, I know I'm bad with release dates!)
Tomorrow we will have another update, hopefully with ringtone creation fixed...and also look out for another big announcement soon

Hi All,
I helped out with a few tests and it works like a charm!
All of my mp3's on my computer can be played through my cell phone, and the quality is that of an AAC ringer. I played a handful of my mp3's and they sounded awesome!
I was so used to the qcp sounding song files, and was really shocked at how great these songs sounded on my phone.
Good job guys!!

Also - all a700 users who's trials have expired will be automatically extended when the AAC enabled m2audio is released.

Guys, this Streaming ACC for the MM-A700 rocks! It's one of those things I didn't know I needed till I got to use it. Eclipxe graciously let me help out in the beta test, and my lowly vocabulary is holding me back from accurately describing it's fantasticality.
Sound Quality is Great. For the fact that it's little tiny Mobile Phone speakers, it's perfect. I plugged in headphones, and it doesn't sound distorted, tinny, garbled, or low quality. It's not CD audio, but if you expected that, then you must live a life of constant dissapointment and misery! Loading time is Good, I'd say it's 10-15 seconds or less per 5min song. Controls are responsive, and I haven't found a bug yet. I say yet because there are so many options that I haven't gotten to everything yet.
My professional recomendation is that you RIGHT NOW get in on the trial. I think I read that if you have an A700 they'll hook you up with ACC support when they get it up to perfect standards that I know these guys strive for.

Michelle - it works with VPC :) We had a user that posted in the other thread - I am not entirely sure how to set it up (no mac here) but I will speak with him and get directions so we can post it on the site.

I posted somewhere on what I had to do to get it to work. The complexity is increased because you are dealing with two distinct problems. One that everyone has to deal with which is your firewall and inbound port mapping. The other is from VPC itself which has a rather odd networking model. In the default mode, VPC acts like a router and does NAT to your Macs network stack. In the other mode, it acts like a switch (called virtual switch mode). This allows the VPC machine to get its own IP address from your LAN. This is the mode you have to use which makes setting up networking on Windows even more work because you have to assign an IP--you can't use an IP assigned from DHCP because of the forementioned need for inbound port mapping.
Found the previous post on how to set up m2Audio with VPC:
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49872&page=4&pp=15&highlight=m2audio
Thanks for that. looks like a hell of a job!It isn't that bad if you are able to set up a network on Windows. If you want I can probably walk you through the process. Send me a PM if you are interested.

I'm interested jdb! I'd like to add it to our support database. The best way to document the steps is to walk someone through the process. I'm too much of an expert to do it from memory--I'm sure that I would skip too many steps as they seem obvious to me.
Maybe you guys can get a G4 Mac and Virtual PC? I'm not sure of the size of your company but that would be a reasonable solution.
The key for me was using Virtual PC in virtual switch mode and a static IP in Windows 2000. After that it was just a case of doing an inbound port map from my Apple Airport router to the static IP and port assigned to m2audio.
If you want further details from the previous posts just send me an IM and I will give you my email. I am willing to expand on what I wrote already, I just need to know what needs expanding on.
Oops meant to say, send me a PM (private message), not IM.

Client is complete - need user that is willing to test the new server. BTW M2Audio with AAC Support is now known as M2Audio DX and is a free upgrade for all users (only works on MIDP 2.0 phones). We are also trying to get Treo 600 support in this one also, which is a MIDP 2.0 device. We are looking for treo users. Please message me here or email me at chris.lang@m2stream.com.
Thanks guys!

AAC Support is now enabled for open beta testing. All registered users (A700 only) may go to http://login.m2stream.com and then go to Download and try out the AAC enabled M2Audio, M2Audio DX :)
Also note you must re-download the server for DX support.

Alright...I got M2stream to work on my phone (A700) and the sound is amazing. 3827834794878974297 times better then QCP. Process is easy and simple just like before, just better sounding! (Thanks to Chris for letting me know that M2stream records ppl and stuff....spyware on my phone!) HAHA Just KIDDING. But anyone out there reading this who owns an A700 or even those who dont , I strongly reccomend you give M2stream a try. And you can even make songs into ringers so give it a try, you won't be dissapointed

I ran into a problem. M2audio needs .net 1.1.4 right? My linksys wireless audio sever requires .net 1.0.3. Linksys is working on a patch for the new .net, but I would like to use M2Audio now, is there anything I can do?
Thanks,
Steve

Do you need to just send the DX version to your phone, or do you need to uninstall and reinstall the whole server [on the computer].?

You need to redownload and install the server to your computer and the client.
A700 users download M2Audio DX
Everyone else right now redownload the normal client.

No need to uninstall the old server - re-downloading will patch it to the new version (2.2.0006) :)
As far as .NET - we use features from 1.1 -With regards to the Linksys incompatability that is strange... The only thing we can do in the meantime is let yiou beta test M2Audio Hosted (when available) and then hopefully soon after the Linksys patch will be available.
Thanks!

Just tested on VPC 6 on a 1.3 GHz OS X 10.3.5 G4 running Windows 2000. It works.
I was surprised by a couple of things though.
1. The server doesn't recognize AAC files (.m4a) even though that is what it converts the files to when it sends the music to the phone. On a slow PC which is what VPC always is, it takes forever to convert from MP3 to AAC (at least that is what I think it is doing). And this is really bad for me since nearly all the music I have is already in AAC format.
2. I'm getting a lot of skips in the music. I don't think this is related to VPC but I could be wrong. I don't see a load on the server though when the skip happens. On a 4 minute song it happened about 8 times.

JDB - yes no AAC decoder yet - this is planned for next release. Mp3 to AAC takes about 15 seconds to initially cache (only first time) on a 3.06ghz p4. We are looking at the aac encoder library and tweaking it to our needs and hopefully we can pull out a bit faster encoding.
The skips you are getting are happening when the phone has to load up the aac file into the audio chip. The samsung won't allow you to stream direct audio data to the chip (there is a bug that sprint made in the implementation - should be fixed with Sanyo/LG MIDP 2.0 phones, or a possible firmware update)
You can minimize this skip by trying a larger buffer - 60. We might also add 90 and 120 second buffers which would help to minimize the skips the most.
Thanks!

BTW - MIDP 2.0 allows you to do a direct audio stream which would eliminate skips, however for whatever reason the MIDP 2.0 audio classes are made restricted by sprint (the bug) and because of this the only way to stream is to use the old MIDP 1.0 extensions. Hence the skips. Hopefully the Sanyo/LG implementations won't be like this...

New Update (10/4) 7:05 pm PST - AAC Ringtones now working! Just redownload the DX Server from http://login.m2stream.com
The new server will just update your old one (make sure you exit the old one first). Then you should be able to create Awesome AAC ringers on the fly!
