I actually do have a Nextel account as well. It is just a 15.oo add on to share with my family to keep in touch.
But is so UNRELIABLE that I don't care if it's only 15.00 I am cancelling it when the contract ends in 4 months. For now it just sits in my glove box. The rest of the family is switching to Sprint.
Don't believe the hype, Nextel has horrible reception and no roaming capabilities.

I use Nextel. I work for one of those 'Jack of all Trades, Master of None' Cell phone stores that sells EVERY PROVIDER! I use the Nextel demo phone ocasionally, but I spend most of my time fixing broken Nextel phones for existing customers. (And by fix, I mean swap for a refurbished unit and send the broken one off somewhere else.)
Just so you all know, Nextel should be getting it's FIRST camera phone TODAY!! (October 1st) Feel like a good laugh? Go look at how the phone compares to Sprint camera phones in both gadgets and price.

This guy I am seeing right now has a nextel phone most times I have trouble hearing him but I assume that has to be because he is using the speaker so he sounds a little bit far off. My mother worked for Verizon as a manager (she is retired now) her previous boss before the merger between Bell Atlantic and GTE to form Verizon he had all of his managers using nextel phones and I liked it she didn't have any problems that I knew of with reception and that direct connect I really liked that how fast it was. Then after the merger she got a new boss and that boss said We are Verizon why are we using another carriers phone when we have our own. My mother missed her nextel. Since retiring from Verizon my mother gave up her verizon account she had for my dad and now they both have Sprint.

Nextel does have a new plan out today that Sprint should think about copying:
Nextel National Power 500 - 500 A/T with unlimited N/W, unlimited L/D and unlimited Direct Connect for $45.99 per month.
This is something that Sprint should offer with RL. I hope Sprint doesn't let Nextel pass them in price.
Edit: They do charge a $1.00 for voice mail and a $1.00 for caller id though, so the plan is really around $47.99 per month.

What most people don't know is that Nextel is split into two companies. Nextel Corporate and Nextel Partners. The simple way of explaining that is to say that Nextel Partners handles smaller cities.
Well, those National Power Plans are crap. I cover Nextel Partners, and for us, Voicemail and CallerID are not standard. They are $2.99 EACH! Don't believe me? I'll fax you one of their new October plans sheet. It sucks. Every month it seems Nextel changes their plans for the worse. But it should be said that Nextel is the only carrier that has Free Incomming Minuite Plans. But even those are very expensive with not many outgoing minutes.

I was partially forced to get a Nextel phone because everyone at work has one and they all enjoy using Direct Connect. I also had to get one because I travel to Central PA once a week and where I go my Treo gets no signal but my i860 has a perfect signal. Unfortunately I have to be in contact during the day so I could not go without a phone.

Nextel's billing and credit dept is rediculous, when my cousin went there in nyc, they told him that he needed a 800 sec dep(keep in mind that does not cover the phone and not first mnth's bill either), all this for a person with no credit, you cannot justify that amt for someone with bad credit, you can get a credit card cheaper with bad credit, so i told him to go to sprint, that way we chill and talk all day, in the end sprint wanted 80$ sec dep
What the hell is nextel thinking / are the phone able to function as police scanners too, ***!!!!!!

The high deposits for no credit customers are just a scare tactic. The odds are that the no credit customer will not pay a bill somewhere down the line. It's just statistics and probability, and Nextel wants to stay safe. So they throw a big number at the potential customer in hopes that they'll go away. Hey, it’s working for Nextel somehow.
Nextel is also thinking about trying something that Sprint is doing with great success. They want to start issuing spending limits. Sprint does this with all customers that pull a deposit. If you go over a certain amount of money in one month, you get hotlined. Nextel may do this and lower their initial deposits.
You can repo a car, but you can't repo a cell phone. That is why it's so hard to get cell phone service.

I used to have sprint for four years, and now i have nextel. And nextel has been a lot better for me. I never drop any more calls. I've had the sanyo 8100, 5400 , 5500 and the 8200 . And the best phone out of all of them was the sanyo 8100. Every other phone i had with sprint dropped 85% of the calls i made or received. Then there was the redialing bug. :furious: I had my sanyo 5500 replaced twice and my 8200 replaced once with all of the phones having the same problems.
Now that i have nextel i haven't dropped one call. I use the i730 now but my i860 is on its way this week. ;) .
does anyone in here use nextel?
so... I know some ppl who are useing nextel, they cannot complain to much about it, but they do have some problomes like where you live, in Puyallup/Sumner/Alburn area.
Not a big Fan of Nextel, I think that is for Rednecks who spend most of their time watching cars going around in a circurle...
but if you are using it for work then NM

Oh yeah... some people get annoyed when people around them are on cell phones. Nextel users (at least all of the ones that seem to be around me... especially when we go out for a nice relaxing Friday lunch in my dept at work) take it to a whole other level!

nextel isn't that bad but yeah their phone selections sucks and yeah they just got their first camera phone but it also has video large main and external display. I did used to like the lmited edition versions of their phones like the clear i95
The saving grace to nextel is that they have the best speakerphone. I got slightly more dropped calls with nextel then with sprint. That is how i got out of nextel contract without ETF. If you have a certain number of dropped calls they have to let you go with no etf. I could prob get out of sprint this way too. instead i just call the customer care and get credit for dropped call which turns out to be only .50 for me but i try to actually do it everytime it happens though they hope you either dont know about it or can't be bothered to call it everytime.

if moto could just make the same full dup speaker in a phone for sprint that would kick.
maybe for the new moto phone for sprint coming in jan?!
meantime the moto v710 has a good speaker but i think i heard even that isn't full dup proving even moto wont make full dup for anyone really but nextel. i still wonder what the reason is. i thin the 710 might be full dup as its best speakerphone i've tested on sprint and verizon, it just might not be quite as good as nextels.
