well i was gonna base it on specs but i guess ur right oh well im gettin the samsung someone delete this thread
7400, then again I only buy Sanyos. I think the A700 is a nice phone, but I like speaker, and I like the rugged phone. Although the Camera on the A700 is 1 megapixel as well as it has all those cool Samsung Voice recognition dialing!
I really hope Sanyo gets that someday.

What exactly are you talking about when you say voice dialing? I have a Sanyo 5400 and it has voice dialing for saved phone numbers.
i voted samsung because it is available now, given the two choices

I wouldn't get either. Don't limit yourself between 2 phones that aren't worth it.
I recommend and i know noone wants to hear because godforbid its on another carrier but the v710 on evil verizon or the Sharp T-150 on tomobile if you dont need speakerphone.
prob the best 2 phones out right now.
otherwise wiat for the 5600 or the new moto phone for sprint both prob in Jan.

There was an article in the Dallas Morning News on 1.0 Megapixel Cam Phones, and the PM-8920 showed better than the Samsung. According to that, with the stuff said about the PM-8920, I would wait on the 7400! Dated 10-7-04, if anyone wants to view the article. LOL

i'd get the v710 now and wiat for the 5600 and new sprint moto phone in jan.
glad to hear the 8920 has a good cam and that is even more sad for the a700 but the 8920 has a supposed full duplex speaker which turns out to be useless as its highest volume is so low

Until sanyo can get their act together with their "gay" User interface and Icon menu. Samsung will always be an all around better phone.

Certainly others will disagree with me, thats the beauty of it. Sanyo and Samsung are both great phone manufacturers, however Sanyo doesn't seem to care about their software they put into their phones, and while Samsungs is far superior IMO they do have their issues, but as far as signal strength (reception) and clarity and features, appearance and price. Samsung is the winner. But wait now there is this MM-5600 coming out. That Phone will be the clear cut winner even if it does have gay icons and menus like a barbie phone. It's got a MiniSD slot!! and an MP3 player which means no more converting ringtones!

I've tested my 7400 and 4900 db's and the 7400 is slightly better :) I've had a lot of phones and most have gone in and out of signal at my house (just a few of them are 4050 and 700). So far after a week my 7400 hasn't gone out of signal at my house. As far as features I think the 7400 has more than the 700. There are a lot of little things that I like more on my 7400 than my 700. Full caller id pictures/screensavers not shrunk, flashlight, changable faceplates, being able to take pictures with the phone closed. Sanyo has improved the sound quality from preveous models but still not as good as samsungs yet but it's not bad and it's louder. Also sanyo has less issues with bugs than samsung. Samsung came out pretty quick with a software fix for the 700 but I think it fixed one problem but made another. With the 7400 you get a faster/more clear web exsperience, better battery life, speaker phone, more durable/feels tough, slightly better reception, for 20 less than the 700. I know the 700 has a better camera but in low lighting I not so sure it's that much better than the 7400. If your very picky about sound quality, or need fantsy menus or a mega pixel camera then go with the 700.

I dont understand why this is still a debate...the a700 and the mm7400 are both good phones..Its a personal choice but it doesnt make one better than the other....The main reason Sprint sells more than one phone...different taste for different people. The this phone vs that phone threads are soo stupid in my opinion....

No, Samsung, along with numerous other brands test their phone for bugs...they are very hard to spot on first glance as they only test a certain amount of devices...It is not hard to spot earpeice muffledness and hohum UI's...

Tulomnne if you start all your posts with " IMO " you might get a better response, you keep saying the 7400 has a muffled earpiece I have yet to expereince this, I did however experience it on the a760. Would you believe that somepeople actually like the way sanyo's earpiece is.

I think one of the reasons Sanyo phones are less buggy than Samsungs is because they only sell to sprint in the US and they have more time to test.

He IS better. Better than being blugeoned with a two-by-four with rusty nails sticking out of it in a dark alley being swung at you by a 6'4" muscle bound dude weighing 300 lbs. Better than being shot out of a cannon into a lake of burning lava.
But let's face it. Sanyo rules reception and has less bugs. And my 4920 has a sweet earpiece. I don't know about everyone else's but this is a sweet phone. I had a samsung before, it sounded clear, WHEN you could make a call. IMO!

Jagg,
That sounds like my experience with the 680s(3) and 700s(3) and the Treo 650(2). They were really nice phones but had some serious software and hardware issues. But I am very happy to have a Sanyo again. The UI may not be the prettiest but then again my 7400 just works.

I used the first one for almost 2 weeks but got tired of people complaining about how I sounded and the weird random reboots. I exchanged for another and applied the sound patch but still had outgoing sound quality issues and random reboots. After the 7th reset while receiving a call while in another program I said enough of this. I took it back and exchanged it for a 7400. I called my wife just after that and right after saying hi she asked if I had exchanged my Treo for another phone because I sounded a lot better; so that should tell you something about the sound quality even with the patch to fix it. I just expect my pda to be a little more robust and reliable than treo's have been. I have to say that each version of treo gets better but they are not where I need them to be yet.

The Samsung MM-A700 for the "ROAMING ONLY" option :)
The Sprint signal only works in select rooms of my house due to repeater installation. With the A700 - I just set the phone to roaming only and can roam on Verizon Wireless digital network. The Sanyo MM-7400 still has analog only has it's roaming option.

I've been a sanyo lover since the day the 4900 came out, it froze once in the vision browser (it was the first firmware ever, i got it like the week it came out) .. then a year later, while trying the LG, it crashed/froze about 8 times in 2 weeks, and it never got above 2 bars, in places my 4900 would have 4 bars. Quickly switched back to the Sanyo 8100 and NEVER crashed or froze or rebooted once. I've never had a problem with the Sanyo Menus like mentioned above, only thing the LG had better was the Browser setup, the soft keys showed up correctly for things like mapquest and others for "submit" vs the softmenu that you had to use for the Sanyo. Other than that I have deemed myself to be a Sanyo fan for life.
Now I am trying out a Nextel Plan that I got for the Discounted Employee friends plan, and while i get a decent rate, the motorola i860 has rebooted itself 20 times in the 2 days I've had it. All while doing simple menu scrolling or website browsing. and lately when i turn the phone on, then flip it open while its starting, it will reboot itself when it tries switching from the sub-lcd to the main lcd... I have 12 more days to decide whether i want to stay with sprint or switch to nextel... the MM7400 sounds too good to pass up, but the lower rate and higher ability to "chirp" with my nextel friends Direct Connect is the only thing holding me back.
Decisions, Decisions.

The 7400's (Automatic) setting will roam on digital before it looks for analog, so what's the difference if I have a sprint signal what do I need to roam only for.

If you have a weak Sprint signal and and a full Verizon digital roaming signal, you can set the phone to "Roam only" and it will force it to digital/anolog roaming...Older phones like 7400 can only be forced to roaming in anolog

oh god...of all threads to rehash...
I think maybe a NEW earpiece thread is in order as earpieces lately have changed. I will say my a500 samsung had a crystal clear earpiece so when I went to upgrade I tried to stay with samsung and there reputation of good earpieces, so I got the a760 and the earpiece was terrible, we all know that the a680 earpieces were blowing out, I just read a post of someone complaining about the a740 earpiece, so it is become obvious that samsung is lossing there reputation with good earpieces. I did use a friends 8100 and IMO the earpiece was muffled but there is a huge improvment with the 7400 as I would not keep it if it sounded like the 8100. So to sum things up it does appear that the sanyo's are improving there earpieces while although samsung improved there RF they are regressing with there earpieces, it's just the way I see it.

A680 and A740 have no earpeice problems. Ringer speaker and earpeice are two different things. All current Samsung's have crystal clear earpeices, including that A760 you despise...It sounded great when I heard it...
Sanyo is improving (7400), but is still nowhere near LG or Samsung for clarity...

Ummm Doesn't the ringer ring through the earpiece, I despise the a760 because 2 of them had bad earpieces, I had numerous people make calls with them and they all said the same thing, so it wasn't just me. I think the problem with you is you can't get HONEST believe me if the sanyo 7400 earpiece sucked I would be the first to post it.

There are two speakers in the earpeice compartement...The actual earpeice and the ringer speaker...
