View Full Version : Dropped my scp-6400 for the 10,000th time...

(sorry if this is off-topic, I didn't notice a "tech" or "phone problem" thread)

So, I dropped my Sanyo 6400 for the ??? time from my lap to a tiled floor and now it displays no text. The phone works, the light comes on, but no time, menus, phonebook, messages, etc. Anyone know if this problem is repairable.
Is it worth repairing? I understand it's not a top of the line, leading-edge technology phone. But it gets great reception and has features I like. So, even if it required me sending it to a service center I could do that if it's not too mush $$.

Thanx

The cost of the repair could easily outweigh the cost of a replacement. However, it could be as simple as a loose connection.

Check with the service center and see if they will give you a cost estimate before making repairs.

If you decide not to have it repaired (and you are junking it anyway), you could always take it apart and look for possible simple fix.

SPCS retail stores can now repair phones! Check your local SPCS store for details!

..."service center/store" and was told since the warranty was up two months ago that "they wouldn't touch it" not even a software upgrade, for "fear of frying the phone?! Now that's a big CYA answer right there I'd say!
Not alot of faith in the service techs :eyebrow: it seems, though!

So, yep they talked me into a new phone(s) and an extra $20/month to my plan for the "add-a-phone" deal I got (2 vga1000's for19.95 & the extra $20/month mentioned earlier. I'll just keep the other phone & # as a back-up

BTW: Thx for the responses, it'll keep me posting....

Very few stores can repair very few things.

They might be able to replace the screen, but the OP would be charged for it.

Actualy, I find it honorable for the tech to tell you that. It has nothing to do with the techs compotence level, if the handset loses connection with the computer at all, the update will fail and "fry" the phone, which then you'll have a paperweight.

Maybe the techs thought that it was too risky. Before I do any software update, and I train other techs the same way, to check the dataport to make sure it's in excellent condition, then check with the software when it's connected (but not updating) and wiggle the cable to make sure it doesn't loose connection (the phone's ESN pops up in a window when it's connected).

If all is good, then I proceed.
