I'm on the old $10 unlimited plan which includes free picturmail but now I'm being charged $5 extra for video mail. I was prompted to add this to my account last month and decided to do so after I read some reports about others on this site getting it free after they accepted the charge. I figured my odds were also pretty good. But apparently not.

Im in the same boat as of today. Did you try calling in and ask if they could take off the charge or give you 5.00 credit to off set it?

Unlike you I decided to add it to my bill last month but I haven't seen the charges yet. Which got me to thinking when I read your post the reason so many people are claiming that they haven't been charged for it after having agreed to have it put on their acc't is because Sprint is giving it to us for free for the first 2 months just like when you sign up for vision and after the 2 months are done they start charging that could be the only reason.

Well they didn't give it to me free for two months. Only one month.

I got a notice on my phone that I needed to sign up for this...I clicked thru to the part where it said I needed to add $5 a month. I called a rep, and they "assured" me that this was just a formality, and I would NOT be charged. This made sense, I said, cause I have had it as part of my plan since I got the phone - about 5 or 6 months maybe.
Well..a few months pass...and there it is on my bill. $5 for video mail. I of course, call up, raise a stink. Like it always seems to happen to me, that I tell them what I was told, and then I am told that it is not the case at all, and that I am mistaken. I love that feeling. It ends up they had charged me for TWO months - the previous I did not see (too busy to look at the line charges, I just paid the bill.) They had tried to tell me that they could not issue me a credit for the first month, since I used the service, and had paid for it once. Which is true...but I could really care less, i think I used it maybe twice in 3 months.
So it took a while...to get $10 taken off my bill. You would have thought I was asking for $100.

Well, I just agreed to the $5 charge when I was trying to upload a video. I have Multimedia Vision which says that video mail is included. The facts are on my side, and I've had good luck with getting the CSR's to fix mistakes. I'll post yay or nay if I find anything on my bill.
That is, if I can find this thread next month...

Well I just talked to Sprint regarding the $5 video mail charge and they told me it's never been included in the $10 unlimited plan like picturemail is and that there's no way they can give it to me free. So I cancelled it.

I just checked my bill... nothing "yet". Although, I accepted the 5 buck charge way back in July... or it could have been in June... and now its october and I still don't have the increment. Maybe if we don't brag about "certain stuff" in this forum, "certain loyal sprint employees" won't go back and tell their higher officials...so we won't get bumbed out of "backdoor" services...
Hmm..now there's a thought.
Ciao!

I accepted the $5 charge in late August I think. So maybe there's a glitch in the system that they figured out and fixed sometime in July or August??

Well I checked with a friend who works for Sprint and he assured me that video mail is not included free in the old $10/mo unlimited plan and never has been. Anyone who might still be getting it free is simply an error or a computer glitch.

Videomail is not grandfathered in for anybody ... if they are getting it for free they shouldn't be and it will be caught eventually

Update. I called and cancelled video mail last month after they started charging me $5/month for it (I'm on the old $10 unlimited plan). So I get my bill this month and it still has the video mail option listed on it but with a 0.00 charge. So they did take off the $5/mo. charge but it's still appearing on my bill as an option. So I just tried to send a video and upload one and it let me do both without any prompts to add the $5 charge. So maybe I got lucky and will get it free (at least for a while) like others on here??? :)

Since Sprint has apparently made no move to offer per-video pricing for this feature that I rarely use, I will probably cancel mine too. It would certainly be nice if I could cancel the $5/mo and still send video mail once in a blue moon. :)

I can attest to the fact that I started to be charged. I had it for free for several months (and was informed that it was to be free) then all of a sudden I got a postcard in the mail saying it was a billing error and it never should have been free. I put in numerous calls to customer service to no avail. Finally, I gave up and just decided to pay the fee. It's not the amt ($5 isn't gonna break me); it's the prinicipal!

That charge sux. I've had my VM4050 for about 6 months, using everything including video mail (which shows up on the site as being a part of the "vision" pack). When I had the screen pop-up that asked for the $5 increase, I called in, and like others, was assured that it was included in my plan (even the reps at the sprint store said it was included). So I got the MM-7400 and went to take video and pictures, I got the prompt again, and just hit yes (assuming everything was the same as for the old phone). Turns out that video mail is not part of the "vision" pack, the website and all literature stating so is wrong!! (according the supervisor from *2). So I raised a big stink and got that month's charges back. I'm getting kinda fed up with Sprint Reps attitudes.
----Just my 2 cents.

Following up. I spoke to a sprint rep (one of the nicest today) and this is what him and I came to the conclusion (he didn't even know why they charged $5 for video mail!!!)
1. Vision Picture Pack (that thing we all pay $10 or so for) provides you with unlimited internet use (measured in kilobytes)
2. Video Mail is a "new" feature that, if not registered to pay the $5 monthly service, is charged by kilobyte
3. With unlimited internet, it would be silly to pay an extra $5 a month to use the video feature.
Now here's the catch.
1. The Vision Picture Pack entitles you to be able to use the Video Mail feature, it does not
2. You must have your video mail activated (that $5 fee) in order to use the feature.
3. Even though the video mail feature is supposed to use the "internet minutes" you will be charged for it's usage even with unlimited internet on your plan.
To me it kinda seems like they sell you a car that comes with 300hp, but you are limited to 150hp until you are "authorized" by the system to use the extra 150hp even though you normally could... damn... my brain hurts.
Pretty much all I got out of this nice hour chat was that video mail is included in your vision but you can't use it unless you pay more to say that you have teh feature you would normally use through another means.... hope that helps clear things up.

nice rep or not, the point is you can't use it still unless you pay the $5. no way around it.

Yes, you apparently have to pay the $5/mo. It would be great if Sprint offered some per-use fee for sending videos as an alternative to the exorbitant $5/mo, but Sprint does not.

What's interesting is that you can pay the $5 video and not the vision, and they will charge you for the kbyte usage because you don't have the vision "unlimited" internet for your phone, but it doesn't work the other way around... kinda lame if you ask me.

Unl text messaging on a shortmail phone does the same thing and few realize this when they sign up. I will jump for joy when sprint gets away from shortmail.
I dunno why sprint doesn't offer a $15 video and picture mail vision pack...it would be logical; just remove the $5 reimbursement wrt to ringers and stuff. Most people don’t use that credit anyway.
