ok so i went to the sprint store today and saw the samsung mma700 (the one that plays tv) and it was pretty sweet but doesnt have speaker phone but the camera rotates and its a cool looking phone hopefully coming in silver too.
i didnt see the sanyo5500 but i did see it online and its like an upgrade from my friends sanyo which has speaker phone and push to talk. but no rotating camera.
personally, the samsung looks cooler but i dunno which one to get... any help?

If you could wait another month, I would say that the 5600 might be out by then...
Also, the LG 325 and/or LG 535 may be out as well.

I personally would go with the 5500 because the mm700 is a bit bulky to me. but then again if you can wait a couple of weeks I would see on the new phones coming out like DCDave said

Bottom Line from me to you, go for the sanyo. It will last longer. More durable in so many ways. Visit Sanyo site

Working for Sprint, and after working with all the phones my advice (take it or leave it) is the A700. The 5500 or as sprint likes to call it the 4500 is a good phone just realy outdated. The 8200 is a better quality phone then the 4500. The A700 is the sh#@ I just recieved mine yesterday. Comming from the8200 I dont even miss the RL or speakerphone. The sammy makes up for them with other perks. But for all and all it what you like .

And this is based on what ?!?!?!?!?
I have both sitting in front of me right now.
If the a700 had speaker phone, it would be mine. But I gave it to my wife since she doesnt use speaker phone.
Since I do have both, used both etc... My suggestion is try em both, buy the one that you think is better, and if you dont like it, return it, then buy the other one. That way, the final sale doesnt kick in.....

I'd recommend the Toshiba on Sprint or the Sharp phone on Tmob for the best screen in the US.
Or the Motorola v710 for the most features and still 2.2" screen though not qvga and best speakerphone of the ones mentioned as the sharp doesnt' have one and better then teh sanyo 5500 which at least has close flip speakerphone.
the combo that works for me is Tosh and sanyo 5500 on sprint and moto v710 on verizon but i like the sharp phone a lot as it has as good if not ever slightly better screen then the tosh which is big draw for me but its on a crappy carrier and doesn't have speakerphone.

the sanyo 4500 is way better then the 8200 and has way more. The a700 is useless over priced , over rated and has no speaker and no "perks" make up for that.
your recommendations are pretty bad imo.
You forgot to mention the Toshiba which is really sprints saving grace though they push teh sanyo because they are exclusive.
Otherwise the best 2 phones out right NOW... not coming maybe in dec./jan is the Motorola v710 on Verizon and the Sharp T-150 on crappy T-mobile (i said best phones not carrier)
The sanyo 5600 wont have the mem card slot that those 2 have and wont have blue tooth that the 710 has. It will however supposedly have a 2.2" qvga 240x320 screen like the Tosh and the Sharp though I will believe it when i see it and am really curiouis as the reason the Tosh and the shrp are the only 2 phones with this type of screen is because they make it themselves, Sanyo doesn't so it will have to buy the screen from eithe rof those 2 companies which is expensive so i'm thinking it will be inferior to both of those screens one which has been out for over 6 mo and one is out now.
So once again for great price and great screen with speakerphone albeit not the loudest go with teh Tosh on sprint.
For best all around and most features go with teh Moto v710 on verizon
and for as good or better then the Tosh screen plus mp cam, and mem card slot but no speaker go with the Sharp on Tmob.
Those are really the best 3 phones out on any carrier at leeast to me, and being that one has been out a long time and is low priced that makes it a good pickup though i think tis discontinued so if you can find it that is good as it looks like Verizon is never getting their version of the Tosh.
a 4th suggestion but bottom of the 4 i would say is the Sanyo vm4500 as it is the only one of the other 3 that has closed flip speakerphone even the moto surprisingly. But it doesnt' really make the cut because all the other phones have something the others dont' while the 4500 doesn't have anything the others dont other then closed flip speaker, in fact it gets beat in every category by the other phones other then that its video is better then the tosh.
Its the usual there is no perfect phone. you have to weigh what features matter to you most. For me it is the speakerphone and the screen at top of list.
My perfect phone would combine the best features of these 4 phones.
1. Toshiba
2. Sanyo 5500
3. Moto v710
4. Sharp t-150
there is nothing even on teh horizon that has what all that these phones have. As a combo i still think the best is the first 3 if you have to eliminate one. You dont need the sharp as the Tosh has its screen and teh Moto has its mem card and mp cam. other then that there is nothing the sharp has that one of the other 3 doesnt'. Still if you are on tmob and especially if you dont use speakerphone, its by far the best phone ont hat carrier. Verizon by far the710 and on sprint its a shame but the best 2 phones are the tosh and the 5500 which i still prefer the tosh despite not having closed flip speaker just has a better screen and like it better overall then the 5500.
So its crazy but if you just want to be on one carrier and staying on sprint I'd still go with the Tosh even though its the oldest phone of the bunch. Of course the best upcoming phone is the 5600 but i dont think you are waiting until Jan. and i dont blame you.

Both phones have different advantages and perks. However it's really a judgement call based on personal preference.
Maybe you should wait till the VM5600 comes out as well as some other new models that will be available as we move towards December.

Only good advice in this entire post...just respect that not everyone wants a screen like that, because most average people keep the flip closed when they carry the phone, so the screen isnt really used/viewed. Your average customer doesn't even browse vision as much as we all do, so having that screen or paying extra to get a phone with it would be counter-productive for that customer.
The OP wanted to compare 2 phones, one which isnt even out yet, and if you believe the rumor mill here on SU, it wont be out. Best bet for the OP would be to wait till November or so, and see what Sprint's lineup will be then.

Again, i dont really care what you say has been popular or not. It had an amazing display in best buy wiht moving video on teh screen which is still only 1 of 2 phones with that screen in the U.S. Almost everyone who has had the phone has been happy with it despite some of its limitations. i for one a picky cell phone user still even like it after usually getting bored of phones after 6 mo or less. my only real complaint with it is the speakerphone isn't always loud enough but most of the time it is fine. Its still a good suggestion considering that it isnt' new and the price on it is good.
Also it is a fact that Sprint over promotes the Sanyo phones as it is their exlusive. they were sanyo tshirts etc. they seemed to keep the toshiba phone on the low and now its even discontinued makign it even harder to find. So i'm falling of my chair laughing at you now and throwing it at you and your ghetto desi styls becasuse that is cool to type in alternating caps and stuff. you are so ghetto so desi and have such style let me tell you.
last I read, it did have a memory card slot
yes i now realize that and happy about it. certain specs didnt' mention it.
I thought the OP was looking for a new sprint phone, not a suggestion for some other carrier?
Are we sprint nazis here? It is always good to be aware of what other carriers have and the choice for a consumer should always be a freedom. Most of us choose Sprint because they usually have the best phones first and we like Vision and some of the pricing plans etc. If these things change we would wisely move on. I'm only loyal to whatever company is doing the most for the consumer.

what? the screen isn't really used viewed by most people? The screen is always and usually has to be used to some major extent. Now i really think your comments are laughable. counter productive? hahaahah you really are the dorkiest.

I have owned both phones (4500 for 5 months (sold it), A700 for 1 month (current phone)). I like both. Once agiain (all together now) it comes down to what you like more. Here are some +/- on each:
What I like better about the A700 than the 4500-
internal and external display quality (only camera pics in phone can be displayed on external display...bummer), earpiece sound quality, menu graphics, phonebook, vision speed, keypad lights (brighter and more uniform through entire keypad), ringer quality, picture quality (with good lighting), voice commands.
What I like better about the 4500 than the A700-
looks (so like the blue version!), speakerphone (though only half duplex), RL (did not use it much, but fun when I did), earpiece volume (though quality suffers the louder it gets), AIM (it sometimes does not complete the process on the A700), camera/video with phone closed.

I guess you are right Deval if the guy was really only looking at sprint phones, but its just good to be aware of what else is out there etc. and for sprint to be competetive especially since supposedly one of the strengths Best Buy markets sprint on is best phones so...
as far as what HTE2W8 said, he was putting down foreigners or something so i was just reading between the lines, usually someone who says things like that is hiding even greater prejudice and we should watch out for him.

I still find it amusing (as already stated before though) that people ask about what sprint phone they should get and then all of a sudden all sorts of random people still find the need to recomend other carriers phones. *sigh* read the posts people and if you don't like sprint then don't freakin post here go to verizonusers.com or find some t-mobile, etc forum.... and I'm out
good point but i guess it all came back to the fact that there wasn't any good phone releases by sprint in awhile so a lot of ppl were frustrating with the lack of selection and not competing. I dont think it was that any of the ppl didn't lke sprint.

I know there is a verisonusers out there but I just threw out the t-mobile referance for the hell of it :D
And I know people think sprint hasn't had any great releases lately but still, even though I personally don't like say the mm-a700 or the "whatever" samsung smart phone... sprint still has had some great phones out recently and have some great ones on the horizon. If you really are that hard up for the top of the line and need the newest tech in a phone then move to europe or japan. Otherwise you're going to be dissapointed regardless of what carrier you go with here in the states.

hey I'll admit I have an account on verizonusers.com mainly just so I can see the differance in posts and views from here. I've still stuck with sprint so many years because they have the coverage I need and use as well as the features for the price I need.
Dam, this thread is still alive and kicking! Geesh! The OP got the phone he wanted so this thread is mute now. *click, click, bang* RIP!

lol....im on verizonusers.com too...lol
prejudice about foreigners and other races hm, and with Deval here. That and all your flaming and negative posts It looks to me like you should be banned Hte2w8
Its funny how things work around here. This guy and other smar alecs get away with murder breaking all the rules and one guy who never even came close to what this and others like mccurtis1970 do, got banned over 5 times including IP.
shame that it makes this forum look like it is not a place of free speech and a very corrupt and one sided ordeal for the avg users. that could turn most normal nice ppl like myself away and then you would have nothing but sarcastic , insecure, ppl all putting eachother down and everyone would be afraid to say anything legit. what a shame.
i'm still not sure, but if this IS "Quatre V6.0" then... damn dude you are definitely determined, I don't think we had this many iterations of JJ, or did we?
as for mcurtiss - i don't think he really flames anyone. he's a smart aleck at times, as am I... and having a little fun and joking around is not the same as tearing people apart verbally. it's a subtle distinction, and unfortunately not everyone is capable of subltlety.
as for the general comments about this site -- you think this is bad, you should go to "the other place". they would carve you up like a roast turkey.

You sure? I've lurk over at VerizonUsers every week or so and I rarely see any action. They only have 205 users? That's all!?

VZW isn't very popular, I guess? I bet, if there was a poll on how popular carrier msg boards are-that SU would at least be #2 and maybe HOFO MAY take #4? Just a thought here.

Good, let him stay there.
I guess the guy who started this thread already made a choice. But I would say agree with some others and say that that the 5500 is getting dated already and that the a700 is a new sub par release which is missing too many things for most picky users to even consider it and just generally not worth a second look. how can you not have speakerphone for instance let alone other newer more advanced features.
I would suggest to him and anyone i guess just waiting and hoping for the new upcoming phone releases but for me that means January or later as the LG phones coming in Nov. dont interest me.
SprintUsers.com was created in January 2002 as a resource for users of Sprint PCS products and services to learn about and share information. We have cll phone reviews, Cellular Accessories, Downloads, PDA reviews, Ringtones, all of the latest Sprint PCS news and information, an area where you can find help in creating a ring tone or custom image for you phone, and so much more. The most popular section is the message board where visitors can read and write messages, ask questions, and get advice about their cellular phone from other users.
