View Full Version : Motorola A710? Could it be true?

Was just browsing an article about Verizons crippling of their V710 and saw a very interesting answer from a Verizon marketing higher up:

Q. When this phone is released to other carriers, will you accept their ESNs if your customers want a fully-functioning phone?

A. We don't [activate] phones unless they're ours. If Motorola sells it to another carrier, it may be the a710 or the p710. That's not our phone.

That is quite an interesting comment, I wonder if she knows something we don't! You can see the full text at:

just because they say maybe there will be a a710 p710 doesn't mean anything as Verizon doesn't and wouldn't know of it being on any other carrier or what the model name would be. They were just saying hypothetically maybe it would only be one letter different but it won't be same phone. Meaning mostly likely it will be better on another carrier and actually the whole number would prob be diff sprint but regardless this isn't some meaning that Verizon knows of it being on sprint say and being called the a710.

i love when verizon talks out their *****.. i mean, just because it is a V710 doesn't mean nobody else will have it.. otherwise why did everyone sell the V60 and the V120? most of motorolas current lineup of phones are all VXXX

Right thats what was so stupid about this because first of all they didn't know what they were talking about and the verizon person point was that it wouldn't be the exact same phone that they vary slightly between carrier just like verizon was supposed to get a version of the toshiba except it wasn't going to have the toshiba name on it only audiovox had a slight diff number 9900 instead of 9950 and had slight diff look. regardless they never got the phone.

i was pretty sure the v60 was v for both sprint and verizon and like you said a lot of the models are v and it doesn't stand for verizon or anything and its same name for whatever carrier which is the whole point that it was really stupid for ppl to think maybe this Verizon person knew something about Sprint getting the phone right away thinking that it was going to be called the a710 and be for sprint.

Sorry but NO and i'm just as wishful thinking as the dummy that interpreted it that way i wish it was true but there has been no word or news of Sprint ever getting the v710 in any shape or form. I even asked Motorola if they were or if there was any way i could get a version from them made to work on sprints network and they said not possible.

Basically somewhere along the line Verizon payed off Moto to blacklist Sprint at least on this phone and Moto is kissing Verizons ass instead of standing up to them and saying no we make phones for everyone.

Verizon had to kiss ass to get that phone.. AT&T (Cingular) are married to Motorola practically.. They are getting all the new beautiful phones..

hm, i might be switching to ATT or Cingular then at some point. so far they never quite had any phones i liked. I did really like how ATT had Panasonic and NEC phones at one point but at the time the Sanyo 5500 beat out both of them because one didn't have speaker and think and the other had only a 4k external display.

I've heard other similiar stores about what verizon did to get the moto v710 and so quickly. i dont know if kissing ass is the best way to describe but they prob definately used thier monopoly like power and money to get it and prob made them sign a contract not to give it to sprint because i already asked motorola and they said they couldn't make it work for sprint and mentioned nothing about making a version of it for sprint or anything.

ahahhahaah. that was funny how you snuck that in there. Noone is going to believe that the a700 is as good as the v710 just because you sneak it in there. Did you make the phone or something? why do you love it so much and confess your love for it so. I mean you are really even starting to brainwash me into give the a700 a second look.

why do you do this though? do you just feel bad that you bought a crappy phone and you want everyone else to make the same mistake as you? i'm so confused because its clearly and everyone else agrees that its missing a lot of key features and just overall a big let down etc.

Go 710!!! OK Quatre...we get it, it has all the features, Sprint isn't getting it, they suck, they never do anything right...and you're still a customer?

Someone please close this thread, its ridiculous...

what? I never said Sprint sucks and that they never do anything right. they were doing everything pretty good up until now. And yes I'm still a customer but maybe not for long. I thought i've made it clear, i hate Verizon and prefer Sprint that is even more why many are so mad otherwise we'd be fine with just switching. I realize you are bias to Sprint and believe so am I not just because i have it either. We are supposed to be honest and give our real opinion not just be little kids saying whatever phone and carrier we have is the best. There are many othes like me who always said sprint phones were better then verizon and vision was better etc. and now are just stating the fact that they now as a big surprise have a phone better then any sprint has or is getting ok. I'm not the only one

And ppl shouldn't be afraid to say it on here because its a sprint forum and ppl are all bias and be afraid they will be called traitors or something. I'm not like this verizon enthusiast trying to bash the sprint boards or something you retard. I'm discussing which is what these are made for not ppl to misinterpret and flame others opinions and discussions.

and if you have used the 2 phones in question you know that the 710 is a much nicer phone all around.. sprint needs better handsets, period.

One has a speaker phone and Bluetooth that is only good for a headset...

The other one is $119 less and doesn't offer those features...

I don't see how it is *vastly* better than the A700...

If the v710 is anything like the v300 or v400...about 1 out of every 10 phones will actually work. The rest will be plagued with constant problems and defects. Several people I know have either learned to deal with a nonfunctioning earpiece, dead screen or arbitrary shut offs...or have had to go through as many as 5 phones to get a moto that works. Great features...terrible reliability.

Funny retort seriously made me laugh but i have to say it sounds like the writing on will and grace. Anyway it was just speculation by myself and others as to how verizon all of a sudden got this phone and no word for sprint. Verizon has very suspect business practices so i wouldn't put it part them. I do just want to say though how great the toshiba still really is. The screen still hasn't been matched let alone beat and it really is awesome for vision including typing on forums with t9 even in a bumpy car ride home from a college football game. Can't even attempt to do this on the moto and verizon but i'll probably keep it to play around with other hacks and features including blue tooth to a palm to get internet and mp3s with the trans flash card. Can even use my moto data cable from my nextel phone to further customize and get rid of space taking default lame pics and ringers. That is my final verdict on the moto, its not worth giving up verizon for but as a second phone to play around with.

Its great for calling other verizon people free and not use your sprint minutes especially if you can get added on someone elses plan for 20 a month which isn't as good as sprint add a phone deal but is the cheapest way you can get it from verizon. Basically the phone is good but verizon sucks more them ever. By the way speaking of web the open wave browser that the toshiba and moto use seems to be better then the one my 5500 uses and i hues all sanyo. If the 5600 is going to have a screen like the toshiba i hope they use the open wave browser.

recently a sprint store rep told me that a "next gen" as he put it Motorola phone was coming out for Sprint in Jan.

I'm assuming this will be sprints version of the v710 or something even better. havent' heard anything else about this so I am skeptical.

We can only hope and either way its good news it just would have been nice to have it now as the 5600 Sanyo is supposed to come out in Jan. and then it will be tought to choose between the 2. choice is good though.
