View Full Version : I shot my phone today

For dealing with dropped calls, no calls, calls directly to voice mail, and voice mail alert going off but, no call in voice mail... I have had it today. I kept using the "dropped call" on *2. After the 3rd one it sent to CSR. I told the CSR about the constant problems I have been having. The CSR basicly told me to buy a new phone. I told her to check my history about the phone problems. She said " I know, I see's it"... (see's it)? after dealing with her "Ghetto grammer" and attitude, I have had enough.
I just happen to be at the firing range. I hung the phone by the antenna and put it out about 20 yards, took my M9 from my holster and squeezed off 1 round. Well, the RL 2000 is not very rugged at all. The only thing left has the antenna that was still on the target hanger.
I dont know what Im going to do about a phone, but I feel better. I will take the pieces I found to the store tomorrow.

To hit a target of 1.75" wide from 20 yards, the lateral angle tolerance is +/- 0.07 degrees, that is if your aim is more than 0.07 degrees off from the dead center on either side, you'd missed the target. Sharp shooter indeed!

We have to qualify 25+ yards on a smaller target.

Went to the SPCS store today. I took in the pieces and and told the rep I have a problem with my phone. I dumped the bag on the counter, he stared at the pieces and asked "what happened"? I told him "the phone bit the bullet". He got the manager and I told him the problems I been having and the crap service from *2. I was honest and I told him what I did. He asked why I didnt have the phone checked out, told him it was numerous times. I told him to check the history about the problems, I gave him my info cause I had to get to the Base. I will stop back there around 1800.
Q: Are the phone calls recorded when you call *2?
DaMan
08-31-2004, 12:34 PM
They're generally not recorded unless you are explicitly told they will be. However, if you spoke with "good" CSR's when you called to complain, they usually make notes in your account about the problems you experienced. Hope it works out for you.

Nice tactic. You got their attention. I bet the manager was thinking, if I bullsh*t this guy could some of my body parts end up in a bag like that? Sprint lose a new phone, I lose my body parts, hmm....I think the choice is rather easy.

I went in there with a cool head. I did not want to intimidate anyone. I just got fed up with the phone. I dropped 2 *2 calls I made then the 3rd call is when I got Miss "I see's it" and her attitude. I really think it was the phone cause my Mom and girlfriend have had no problems. I have 3 lines on my account. Im not looking for a free new phone. I told him I buy a new phone but want to pay the rebate price for new customers. I dont know if they will go for it. If I kill my account they will loose 3 lines. We'll see.

Im sorry but your freakin dumb. Anybody who is dumb enough to lose their cool and shoot a $200 phone is an idiot. Then to bring the phone to the store in pieces like you're some smart ass 7th grade class clown is so immature. If you would showed me that phone I would have laughed and said "Can I help whos next?" Well it wouldnt be a big deal to shoot it and expect to pay full price for a new one, but to destory it and then ask for a phone at rebate price? Wheres the logic in that?
Im sure after a couple trips to the store they would have realized you were having legitmate problems with your phone or if the store manager was unwilling to help you coulda asked for his manager which is the regional retail store manager and IM 99% sure you woulda got a new phone. But after such a reckless action you are not going to get any empathy from any employee nor do you deserve any.
Gee, wonder what you will do when you get a car that breaks down? Or when you start to "notice" performance issues with your PC?

Guys he brought the phone in multiple times and fo the amount of missed calls he gets and the fact he has 3 lines sprint deserves to give him a different phone at that price. Come on, he tried to get help numerous times and they didn't give it to him. What, should they tell him screw off, we don't need you, lol.
He isn't even asking for a free phone, he is asking for the rebate amount which would entail sprint to pay $100 - 150, which is reasonable because of the missed calls that he gets, some probably were rather important.

If indeed you have never been annoyed with your cell service, then you are lucky. NavyCop has not been lucky. You guys have a right to criticize, but that doesn't mean it's necessary.
He took out his frustration on his phone. That's his choice. Don't like it? Too bad. Not up to you, is it? Go ahead and b*tch at NC, but keep in mind that you are wasting your time and energy. But, hey, that's your choice, isn't it? Well, at least you have control over that.

Still don't want to address it but I shall with a direct response not calling anyone out. I appreciate what Navy Cop does, no matter what his role is in the military. Hell, the receptionist has more balls than I do. I am just not the kind of person to be in such a structured environment. And I quite frankly won't be voting for bush. Nor do I think the two have to be hand in hand. How this thread got to be about political issues and military service is beyond me. Sorry about not making it through the MEPS process, stand tall and proud for wanting to serve your country.
Now, for what y'all been waiting for..
The manager left a message for me today at home to come into the store at my earliest convenience. I went in tonight he saw me right away. He told me that he was going to let me have any phone of my choice for the price of a new subscriber. I was more than happy to hear that. I thanked him and shook his hand. I did not know the RL2000 was discontinued. I thought I just get that phone again. Since I can not have a camera phone, I limited my choices to the RL7300 & RL4920. I went with the RL7300, the RL4920 was a nice phone but, I didn't like feel in my hand holding it to my ear. I like the RL7300 for the black color, feel, sound, and the menu layout.
He also wants me to bring in my next bill, he said he will adjustments since I was without the use of a phone. I really dont know what that means?
After it was all said and done, he apologized for the inconvenience, he did add he wished the old phone was in "working order" to test the unit. I thanked him again for his help.
Right when I was leaving, he said "You should look into a Kevlar case for my new phone, just in case your phone finds it way into a combat zone." :D
I now this thread turned into a combat zone. I like to thank all of you who stepped and "took my back", and thats how I see it. You know I have your back here in the Homeland and abroad. again, Thank You.
Just like to say one more thing. Thank a Veteran. No matter how old, how young, active, retired, Reserve's, or National Guard.

To answer your one question, he will probably knock a day or two off your bill...or whatever was equal to the amount of time you were without because of your frustrations. Good choice with the 7300. Smaller target. :)

Might not be a bad idea :)
Glad to hear you got a new phone.

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement, NavyCop.
Unfortunately, some people are incapable of that because they get caught up in the "just vs. unjust war" issue AND because they hate their lives and are miserable people so they love tearing everyone down around them and they also cant handle the fact that you actually enjoy your occupation in the military serving this country.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but its really easy whining about something after the fact hence my "second guessing" comment.
End of sermon
P.S. NavyCop: Glad you got a new phone out of the whole deal and I apologize that this thread turned into an argument about the Iraq war :furious:

I will take the pieces I found to the store tomorrow.
when you are experiencing dropped calls and other network problems,,,it's not the phone's problem but Sprint's...You should have shot Sprint's TOWER! :hee: anyway, can we have a picture of your dead phone?

Whew. I was worried I wasn't entitled to my opinion. Thanks for clearing that up.
I was worried about that too. I feel better now.
If ever I drew a symbolic parallel between one man and his frustration at a dysfunctional piece of technology vs. a group of people and their frustration at a cowboy attitude, it was today.
Both hate that "thing," because it isn't doing what it's supposed to do--it's doing surprise things, destructive things.
I see how easy it is for a group weilding such a short, sawed-off shotgun (innacurate, widespread) to aim it in the general direction of the individual, and maybe take out his leader and his beliefs too.
In the end, it'll all be solved if we can just manage to kill everybody.
But as a former Air Force enlisted man and an English major, I have to say... "I sees it," is just some funny ****!

Pretty soon I won't have to "leave it" because I choose to disagree. And maybe there might be some sort of constitutional amendment protecting my free speech.

Whoa! A constitutional amendment guaranteeing freedom of speech? Have you lost your mind? I think the right is going for that marriage amendment first--or as it should be called, the bigot ammendment--so slow down there, jazz first things first.

You are one dumb****. Let the man go. He's fighting so you don't have to speak Arab languages.
God, some people are soooo blind. :eyeroll:
Thank you, Navycop, for putting your neck on the line for me, and the grateful majority of the country who supports its troops.
You're a real dimwit. Yeah, if we didn't start a war in Iraq, we'd all be speaking Arab in the near... or even DISTANT... future.
What are you, 8 years old?
With that said, I respect all men and women in the armed services... even if the conflict that they were led into was completely pointless and without reason. They're just doing their jobs... can't hate on anyone for that.

Hey NavyCop, you've got nothing to apologize for. I re-read the entire thread and and would really like to know how it went from talking about frustration over your phone to bashing you.
If you read my signature below, you will see that I firmly believe a person has the right to express each and every view they have. I may not like it and alot of times I don't, but let me tell you, after being the Navy 10 yrs and seeing some of the things I've seen out there, I would never want to call another place home.
As for those who decided this needed to become a bashing party, chill out! NavyCop did what just about anyone in his situation would like to do, or has done in the past.
I know, I use to work for SPCS and while an employee, I threw my phone against the wall in the store and walked out, ensuring it would never be usuable again. I bought a new phone, got over it, loved my new phone and haven't looked back. That is what needs to be done here.
Enjoy the thread, you know you shook your head in agreement with NavyCops initial post and said to yourself, "I'd like to do that sometimes too!" He just decided to do it!
Have a Nice Day! :)

Well I started out reading this expecting to be entertained by someone shooting a phone only to see a bunch of idiots baste a U.S. soldier for doing his job. One thing for sure no matter what your political affiliation is or your viewpoint on who should be leading this country, it is only right for you to support the troops. They fight so that people like you all are able to come out here to a message board and freely express your opinions. It sickens me to see a member of the U.S. military take grief for doing his job!
Amen, god bless the usa AND our military.

And if you have did you get the insurance program and if so is a "firing range accident" covered by it?
hey navy, don't take any suggestions about insurance, intentional dmg isn't covered and anybody that tells you to "say" something else happened is helping with insurance fraud. by the way I probably would've done the same thing. :) and i wanted to stay out of the political side of this. but stay away from Keary, or the only way you will be able to destroy the next phone that dissapoints you is by hitting it with a baseball bat. :D

lol , and now that I have finished reading the entire 3 pages of threads,,,KUDOS to that store mgr. I hear to many customers calling to replace their phones saying that they have had nothing but dissapointing situations arising from their store experiences. that store mgr, deserves a raise, way to go on the customer service experience.

I agree about the Desert Eagle. Too bad you are in Chicago, I bought a new Springfield SOCOM Scout Rifle (308). I have been itching to get to the range with it! If and when I go back to Iraq, I want to take it with me!
