I just got this a few days ago and for some reason AIM no longer function correctly. I cannot send messages anymore, but I can still recieve them and the text notifications.

Is anyone else having this problem? I want to know if it is a Vision issue, or a Vision issue with the A700, or just the A700. Thanks you guys.

I Don't have a A700 But did you restart your phone or default all the settings?

Wirelessly posted (Samsung-SPHA700 AU-MIC-A700/2.0 MMP/2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

It's brand new I shouldn't have to reset it to default.

I just got back from a Sprint Store and their A700 can't send AIM messages either. To make sure it wasn't the Vision network or AIM itself I tested AIM with the VM-4050, VM-4500, and the VM-A680 and it worked on all of them.

I believe now that this is an A700 issue only. GRRR! I think I'll be returning this phone shortly.

it'll get fixed just like the downloading old videos to the phone.. a week ago there was a problem with any old videos taken with another vid phone not downloading to the a700.. now it works flawlessly

Just wondering, do you get an error message when you try to do this, or what happens so that you can't send? I activated an A700 on my account briefly Monday, and while I loaded my buddy list successfully (after a few login attempts... Samsung browsers SUCK) I did not try to send a message.

In the meantime, might I recommend AirIM, http://www.airsoftwireless.com/, or the mobile device forwarding capability over at http://www.ai-buddy.com/. I find AIBuddy's text messaging-based implementation a lot easier to work with, but you may prefer a software-based approach like AirIM. You can try AirIM free for 10 days I believe; AIBuddy requires an immediate subscription, but it's only a few dollars a month and could do a good job holding you over until the problem is fixed.

FWIW, I have not tried AirIM on the A700... works well on other models though.

When sending a message it gives no error at all. What it does is when you send the message it loads the buddy list and never send the message.

AIM does not count as text, it's apart of Vision. The AIM notification that one gets, that I'm not sure about.

Well the AIM thing isn't an A700 problem. Us T608 users have no access to AIM either. We can login, we can recieve messages, we can not reply or send new ones out. The only thing that seems to go through is the SMILEYs. At one point earlier this year it was working for a couple months. I was on AIM 24/7 thanks to my phone, just T9'n away. Then after that it went kaput (around March/April...when I was in NY).

Someone said it might be a Sprint problem, since Sprint was kind of late to the AIM game and wanted in NOW. When it was testing, it worked on some phones and didn't. Overtime, they got it working on the majority of the phones, except the T608 and I guess, now the A700. But I suppose, with a larger owner base of A700 users, if you guys complain enough there might be hope that Sprint'll fix it. And maybe, if it starts workin' on the A700, it'll magically work for the T608, since our problems are so similar.

Having written several wireless web sites, I can tell you there is *no* logical reason why there would be compatibility issues. It's a simple FORM! A text box, a button, and a script on the server to handle what you submit. Piece of cake. It's rediculous they're having trouble.

Hmmm, true. Maybe it's the phone's browser? I dunno, I'm not so high tech on this stuff...but writing a couple of web sites, I know some don't work so well on either IE, Netscape, Firefox, or Opera.

For some reason the text in the box isn't getting sent through like I said. But the smileys go through without a hitch.

I signed up with AI-Buddy.com and have been using their text-messaging-based interface. Since I'm on a third-party employee account, I get unlimited SMS for free; I'm willing to pay AI-Buddy for the SMS capability Sprint won't provide. It's working very well for me. Their WAP site doesn't work, but SMS works without any problems. Highly recommended...... :)

I've been having problems with Aim. I'm using a sanyo 8100. I contacted Sprint about the issue and they told me to contact AOL. I contacted AOL and they said to contact Sprint. The person at AOL said that Sprint PCS and Nextel are the only 2 phone companies that dont support 2 way IM forwarding(meaning you can send and recieve IMs).
http://mymobile.aol.com/portal/im/icons.html

Does anyone know if Sprint plans on supporting 2 way IM forwarding in the near future.

I know for about the past year until a couple of weeks ago I was able to send and recieve IMs on my phone. I'm not sure why it stopped. In the past when someone sent me an IM I would get a notification that I have a new text message. Now when I sign onto AIM on my phone it says that there will be NO alerts for this session - to see if I have new messages, hit the update button.

I did notice that if I sign out of AIM on my phone, I do get an alert saying I have a new message but I cant reply to it. In the past I was able to stay logged into AIM on my phone and I would get a notification telling me I had a new text message. I was able to reply to the messages and then see the messages the person would type to me. It was as if I were using AIM on my pc. I know that in the past when someone sent me a message - I would hit extract info and then choose web address and then the message would appear and I could send and recieve messages. It doesnt come from an address anymore.

I am able to get alerts/notifactions for other things (weather, horoscope, new email, sports scores etc). I dont get them when someone sends me an IM. I have IM forwarding enabled from mymobile aim page.

AOL told me that AIM wont work the way we want it to (2 way IMs) on Sprint PCS phones unless Sprint implents it.

The a700 AIM problem isn't the "Receiving notification" issue or even not being able to send or receive IMs- its the fact that we can't even sign on, or so it seems. In actuallity I can sign on, I just don't know it because the connection just times out. I then give up trying. If I then go online, through a computer, I can see that screen name is actually logged on.

I can sign on just fine. I have to watch for the data activity indicator (arrows at the top of the display) to time out and go gray, then hit the BACK key once or twice to see the buddy list. From there, it's not possible to send messages, as has been described elsewhere.

It's worth noting that on my old A680, after I would try to sign in, I'd get a message about "Matching CA Certificate Not Found" and am asked if I want to proceed. From there, it'd time out. I'd have to go back to the Vision Messaging menu, and follow the path back into AIM, where I would see my buddy list. After that, it worked fine.

Samsung problem???

"Vision 2.0" has been "coming soon" for quite some time now. Heck, it's been so long since it was even discussed within my part of the retail circle that I can't even remember what's supposed to be so great about it...

In any event, upgrading the Vision service/content should not break a browser's backwards compatibility with existing technologies.

I get the same problem with my A700. I'm able to receive IM messages, but can't reply :(
I just cancelled my DSL service yesterday and am waiting for Cable modem installation on Thursday. So I'm without internet access at home except through my cell phone!
I wonder what's really going on in Sprint PCS regarding AIM.
What is Vision 2.0's new features??

You're quite welcome. I have actually started preferring AI-Buddy over AirIM, but there is one drawback: I've been receiving a lot more "SPAM IM's" since I started using it. Could be coincidence, and there aren't a lot... but I've gone from none in quite a few years to a few per month...
