Thanks Dave for upgrading the software.
For those of you having problems with the new version, or if you want to go back to the old interface you can.
Goto My Prefs in WiForum's main menu; Select WAP Options, and than choose WML. I know a few phones have issues with the XHTML version. But changing it to the WML version should solve alot of problems.

Changing what back?
we can change it back to the wml style instead of the html style. "my pref" > "Wap options" > there you have a choice of choosing wml or html. Co0l.

Thaddeus wrote this over at WirelessAdvisors.com and thought I would share it with all of you. He'll be on here later to respond to some posts.
The thread can be found here:
http://www.wirelessadvisor.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3368
The default XHTML MP WiStyle and its external stylesheet is designed for cellular phones/PDAs that fit into the 'smartphone' w/decent processing power, class of devices.
Many of the phones that WA members have will refuses to download the WCSS file due to its 9KB size. This causes the site to bedisplayed without the proper formatting (division colors and gradients, borders, etc...). Non- 'smartphone' class devices that do download and p-a-r-s-e (this word is censored http://www.wirelessadvisor.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif ) the WCSS file may take as long as 30 seconds to completely render certain pages on screen. After doing so, there may also be a noticeable and undesirable amount of scrolling lag, which indicates that the phone was not meant to display pages/sites of this nature, therefore WML WiStyles should be used instead.
If you do not have unlimited data transfer account, are using the XHTML-MP WiStyle, and your device is displaying the site with the CSS formatting, you should periodically monitor the amount of data that has been transferred after each session. Certain cellular phones may re-download the 9KB CSS file on each request, which may result in 15 KB+ requested every time you view a page.
You can view how the default XHTML MP wireless forum WiStyle is intended to look by visiting: http://WiForums.net/gallery.html (http://wiforums.net/gallery.html)
The speed of WiForums (all versions) varies greatly between devices. I previously tested WiForums 2.0 (more or less equivalent to WiForums 3.0's WML WiStyles) with a Samsung x427. Forum browsing on that cellular phone was extremely undesirable. The browser would only allow you to scroll through a page after it has completed downloading all images, which took the phone an eternity to do. Overall the much older Motorola v120c and C332 were significantly faster at rendering pages than the x427.
As previously noted, the XHTML MP WiStyle is quite demanding, if your phone had trouble with the WML WiStyles of WiForums 2.0, you may want to skip using the XTML MP markup until you trade in your phone.
Several phones can only download one page/object at a time. So unlike your typical PC web browser that can download images and page markup concurrently, your phone may be only able to download the page content, then each image one-by-one. This increases the overall click->viewable time.

I'm glad to hear that the SU community is enjoying WiForums 3.0. :)
SU is currently running somewhat of a pre-release version of WiForums which featured a few bugs that were addressed earlier last week (prior to the official launch). Once Dave re-downloads and re-installs the software the Page Jump issue as well as a couple of others that you may or may not have noticed will cease to exist.
Those of you who are able to view the new SU WAP XHTML-MP WiStyle in its entire visual splendor  , would you mind posting a few digital photos? With your consent, I'll feature a few of the SU WAP digital photos on the WiForums.net gallery page.

Thanks Dave and Thaddeus! I like the new look. i noticed we have an option in the "pref" section to change it back. I also like that now we are able to edit our post wirelessly. Nice Work :D
This version features dual-markup capability. You can still browse the forum using a WML only phone from 3 years ago, or with an XHTML MP/WAP 2.0 only device. As you've noted, if your device supports both markups you can switch back and forth at will :)
I almost forgot to mention that you can only edit wireless posts wirelessly. Many phones will automatically truncate the pre-filled textareas after a certain amount of characters, so you may only able to edit the first 500-1000 characters of a post (resulting in a parts of your original post to be missing from its edited replacement).
All of the menu options in the XHTML-MP WiStyle implements accesskeys. Pushing '0' on your keypad will always bring you to the menu option area, while pushing '9' will always bring you to the top of the page where the site navigation links are located.

I wish I was as thrilled as the rest. I know I can go back to the old setup, and I will, but you do want feed back so here goes. Reply and let me know work arounds if there are any?
I don't like the new look. It is harder to get into the forums (too many "clicks"). Also the "menu" button to quickly jump back to the begining of say General Forum or Underground PCS is gone now. I used to be able to use my upper right softkey, now that option is gone. Are there any hotkeys anymore I can use? Let me know. It's all just more complicated and too smancy without doing a whole lot more in my opinion.
Sorry, but just my opinion.
P.S. For anyone using the WAP version please use the "quote" sparingly! Everyone lately has to repost the entire text of that last thread and that is needlessly limiting what you can see in one screen worth without going to "next page". Folks, we can all re-read the last post if the desire or need arises.
Still getting errors (http 404) when I try to use the page jump feature on my a680. I know it is not my phone because prior to the upgrade, the page jump feature worked without errors. Also when I access howard forums from my phone, the page jump feature works, so I know it is something with the new software on the sprint forums. Other than that it does look good, it is kind of slow, and you do have to scroll through a bit more, but it is good that you can switch back to the old interface.

You can switch back to the WML version of WiForums which is the same as the old version plus a few added features, but your right softkey options will be there. Goto My Prefs -> WAP Options and select WML. Peresonally, I love the new version, it took me some time to get used to it, but the 1 thing that is nice is that I get a text block area to type in messages instead of just 1 line.

I'll be honest I'm not sure if I like it, I guess I'm just used to the old one and it's going to take time to get a custom to this one. On my 700 it seems that I'm srolling down a lot more to get to the threads. When using my phone I just like the fastest/least amount of buttons to pust to get to the threads. More pushing buttons/scrolling the more battery I'm burning up. I know you can't do this but I would like it if the first thread was at the top of the page and have how it was on the old version by pressing the right soft key you see asc, desc, general, sprintusers messaging ect. Is the "announcment please read before posting messages to the forum" and "sticky searching update going to be on there all the time? I know I can push the volume keys to scroll faster threw all the stuff at the top but I prefer the down key. Also it seems that on the 700 if the thread tittle is long it goes down below it. You can't have that move by itself when clicking on it? It's another line that I woudn't have to scroll. The name below the thread is taking up another line I don't really care for it but I guess others might like it. One last thing when you highlight quote, subscribe and next page on my 700 it's a tad darker blue kind of hard to see which one you have selected.
Sorry for being so picky I'm sure this is no simple task. Thanks for the improvements this site is great :)

As far as the right soft key option, you can still do that, in WML mode. I fail to see why people refuse to change their settings to WML mode. The forums will look like the older one in WML mode.

Below are a handful of previous comments/recommendations that I've made on another WiForums 3.0 client forum. They seem to tailor to most of the 'issues' that some of you have with the new software.
----
-> Whenever a new version of WiForums is released always spend time to go through your customizability options in My Prefs. As you'll see, in this version you can also choose which markup you prefer to browse in.
-> ....you can choose any markup (WML/WAP 1.1 or XHTML MP/WAP 2.0) you like. Just because your device is capable of doing so, WiForums does not force you to only be able to view the WAP 2.0 version. I'm all about choice, specifically when for the majority of us, WAP access in not free or ‘unmetered’. This is something that just about every mobile developer overlooks.
-> What many of the WAP 2.0 users have to realize is that although your phones offer support for XHTML-MP and WCSS, they are not powerful enough to handle the wireless forum's implementation of the above technologies. As I previously mentioned, many of you who do browse the forum in WAP 2.0 are not seeing the forum how it is intended to look. Most of you who do get to see all of the 'eye candy' will have to deal with undesirable scrolling lag, periodic rebooting, or other quirks.
----
One thing that is missing from the above comments is the fact that the XHTML-MP WiStyle is designed for 'smartphone' class devices with a screen resolution of 176x208,176x220 or greater.
Most WAP 1.1 and WAP 2.0 phones should have dedicated page up and page down keys when in either WML or XHTML-MP markup mode. As I mentioned before every menu option in XHTML-MP WiStyles implements accesskeys, so you can easily access the menu options at the bottom, or the navigation links at the top of the page. Lastly, every menu option in the WML version would (on most phones) be available via a softkey.
Dave should let you know when he has uploaded the final release version which corrects the Page Jump issue, and several other minor issues. I'll address any device specific issues at that time.

Ok, that is 1 problem that I have with WiForums is the quoting system. I wonder if there is a way that Thaddeus could make it so it acts more like the quoting system on here.
The below would also apply if quoting was implemented that way:
------
->... Many phones will automatically truncate the pre-filled textareas after a certain amount of characters, so you may only able to edit the first 500-1000 characters of a post...
------
Trust me, the 'automatic quoting' of WiForums is the only feasible way to go about handling quotes. When viewing posts which contain a large amount of quoted text, use your phone's page up/dn keys instead of pushing the down key 20-40 times.

WAP 2.0/XHTML MP does not support the input field "format" attribute of WAP 1.1/WML :( . Personally I feel that WAP 1.1 is much more friendly to small-screen devices than WAP 2.0.
On a non related note, WML 2.0 is the most well rounded small-screen device markup language, sadly it will never become a WAP standard. :eyeroll:

I am trying to login to the Sprintusers.com WAP site with a Sanyo VM4500. The instructional message tells us to go to wap.sprintusers.com which actually sends us to wap.sprintusers.com/wap/index.html. However, the Soft Key Menu is not modified to permit a login choice of any kind.
When I click on the Message Forum url, it begins to take me to www.sprintusers.com/forum/wap; however, the page freezes while loading, again with no Soft Key Menu options other than SprintPCS' standard ones. Have others who used the WAP login procedure very recently had this problem?
The login choice on a soft key menu which is suppose to appear must lead to some page with username and password blocks on it. If you get to that page, click the Soft Key Menu item "show URL" and give me the url of that page. Maybe I can then sidestep the soft key menu until I am logged in the first time and a cookie is set.
This problem of not being able to logon to http://wap.sprintusers.com (http://wap.sprintusers.com/) with my VM4500 is confounding.:( I simply do not get the modified Soft Key Menu in order to login. I have no problems with the Soft Key Menus in http://wap.howardforums.com (http://wap.howardforums.com/) and other wap sites.
Would some other kind hearted VM4500 user, who has accessed (or wants to access) Sprintusers.com through their phone, please send me a message at smetcalf@sprintusers.com so I can try to trouble shoot it with another knowledgeable ;) Sprintuser.com member. Since I do not have a computer at home, I rely on the phone for access to SU.com.

Thaddeus, I didn't realize you were troubleshooting the VM4500 login issue here. I just incorrectly posted a message to in the PCS & Vision Section with the content below. Fortunately Dave closed the thread.
I never had any login problems with my 8100. I'll be interested to see if other 4500 users can login successfully. Thanks!

I have reported this problem for weeks with my A700 as well with no resolution. I get to the main page and choose Message Forum then hit OK and the page refreshes to the same thing that was already there. On the Menu softkey, it's the standard browser stuff (Home, Mark this page, etc).
The URL I end up at when I highlight Message Forum and hit OK is http://wap.sprintusers.com/wap/index.html

Let's also thank Thaddeus for providing a great product! -- www.WiForums.net
I can't thank Thaddeus enough!
Excellent Job!
My only complaint: Please restore the jump function within a thread. On my phone, I now have to go through however many messages are there, where I didn't before. Twenty or more messages take a while, and some phones don't have good Vision battery life (glad I have a 4900 for that reason).
Again, a thousand thanks on a job well done. You far exceeded my expectations with this version.
...I used to use both the SU and HowardForum on my old 8100 so I don't see why it shouldn't work on the VM4500 as well.
Now a pattern is forming.:eyebrow: I know that Sprint server is actually what keeps our passwords and usernames so we don't have to enter them each time. On a desktop that is done by cookies in the computer itself. The phones don't have the capacity. Their cookie-ability exists in very basic form.
My 8100 boinked in December while the Sprint server had it cleared to bypass the login gate at Sprintusers.com. Your situation may be the same. Can you remember whether you had logged out on your 8100's last SU.com visit, or had simply ended a session?

Psyberian,
The page jumping system is still present (ex. "Page 1 of 4" is the PJ link)
sbiz,
(Visit http://wiforums.net/mime.php via your handset)
If your SU WiForums cookie on the Sprint gateway contains invalid information (password, userid, etc...) the wireless forum software will delete the cookie, then redirect you to the login page.
In your circumstance (and possibly several others) you are going to the SU WAP portal (wap.sprintusers.com), and after clicking on the Message Forum link the browser freezes. Does it indicate that it is attempting to download a page? or are you presented with a blank page that has already been 'downloaded'?
dk2463, poe019,
Your issue is not the same as sbiz's.
After going to the SU WAP portal (wap.sprintusers.com), and clicking on the Message Forum link you are being brought back to the SU WAP portal (which is also http://wap.sprintusers.com/wap/index.html). The wireless forum software does not feature any code which would invoke such a response on WAP 1.1+ or WAP 2.0 handsets.
Jonacell also has an A700, and has been able to successfully access the wireless forum, you may want to compare device firmware versions with him/her.
All VM4xxx, and A700 users that cannot access the wireless forum
Go to: http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/wap/logout.php via your handset.
You should be automatically redirected to the SU WAP login page ( or presented with a 'click here if not redirected' link).

When anyone enters http://wap.sprintusers.com it takes him to http://wap.sprintusers.com/wap/index.html. That is the main wap menu page for Sprintusers.com. The one clicks the top choice "Message Forum" to begin the login process. It is impossible to land on http://wap.sprintusers.com.
After clicking on Message Forum, the up/down traffic arrows begin to flicker and a page with the URL of www.sprintusers.com/forum/wap (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/wap) begins to load; however it remains blank. After about 10 seconds the up/don traffic arrows become steady and in another 40 seconds they become faded. If you try to refresh the page, they flicker for another 5 seconds, become steady, then fade. The page remains blank. The Soft Key Menu remains the standard Sprint one.

sbiz and others,
Download and install Opera browser for PC (7.51 or newer), then try to log into the SU WAP forum (wap.sprintusers.com-->Message Forum).
If you are unable to log in, then it's a credentials issue, and Dave and I will have to check if your account is permitted access to the wireless forum, or if it's a software issue.
If you are able to log in, then it's a Sprint gateway or handset issue (possibly a character encoding issue).
sbiz and others, Download and install Opera browser for PC (7.51 or newer)...
v7.54 is the latest computer version of Opera. The latest cellphone version is 6.20 at www.opera.com/download/index.dml?platform=symbian (http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?platform=symbian) has downloads for Nokia, Panasonic, Psion, Samsung,Sendo and Siemens. My computer is down. One of you can download Opera 7.54 at www.opera.com/download (http://www.opera.com/download) . The version with Java is 16.2 megs. Since you probably already have Java on your computer, the non-Java version is only 3.4 megs.
If one of you does install Opera (or if any other Opera 7.51+ user is reading this thread), PM or email me so I can give you my SU.com uid/pw. You can log me in and out once too to complete Thaddeus' test. Remember to log into SU.com's WAP forum, http://wap.sprintusers.com (http://wap.sprintusers.com/) , and not the regular forum.

sbiz, As you've noted, the issue is a Sprint PCS issue which affects certain customers.
There are only two ways that the problem can be handset specific:
1- The firmware revision on your VM4500 differs from that of the demo VM4500 (and the SU WAP users' VM4500 which have no problem accessing the forum).
2- The browser on your VM4500 does not accept ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8 character encoding (highly unlikely).
The only way for yourself (and others) to regain access to the SU WAP forum would be to inform Sprint about the issue, letting them know that you had no problem logging into the SU WAP forum using their demo VM4500.
If needed, you can rovide them with the WiForums support address.
Well, Sprint told me their server only keeps info on those sites that have tailored portals for SprintPCS customers like Earthlink and Yahoo. Anything else is only maintained in the phone cookies. All she could suggest was deleting the VM4500s cookies or (more drasticly) clear the phone and resetting it to the factory defaults. I deleted again with no change.
Perhaps the phones really don't delete the cookies for some reason. For instance, after deleting them, when I went to My portal page at the following generic address, http://pdaportal.com/myportal.php , at pdaPortal.com, it took me right to my list of bookmarks, even though I didn't sign in or anything. How could that have happened if my phone's cookies were deleted?
This continues to confound, but the issue does seem to be in the phones. I need to find out exactly what the versions of browser software and phone software are for those VM4500s that work with WAP SU.com.

sbiz,
Interesting response from Sprint.
However, due to the nature of wireless forum's login system the issue cannot be cookie related; it has to be a character encoding issue.
Try this:
Using your VM4500, attempt to register on the WiForums 3.0 demo forum ( http://www.wiforums.net/demos/ff3vb/ ). If you were able to succesfully register (and browse the demo forum), log out, then try log into the demo forum once again.

sbiz,
It's a character encoding issue.
When you attempt to log into the SU wap forum your handset in conjunction with Sprints gateway is not encoding your username and password in the proper manner.
Considering the fact that you were able to log into the forum using another VM4500, Sprint should be able to correct the problem on their end (let them know that it has nothing to do with cookies or clearing the browsers cache).
Sadly, there's nothing that myself or Dave can do about the problem that you (and a few other members) are experiencing. I wish there was more that I could do, but I do not have access to an ill-fated VM4500 nor Sprint PCS for that matter. :(
