I just started mine on the 23rd (last week) and have 4 out of 5 referrals already done. I should have my 5th in the next two days and about 2-3 weeks before the iPod arrives. But I was skeptical at first, but checked it out all over the web and it's legit. When I get it in my hand, I'll be a 100% beleiver, but so far, I'm in the high 90's...

That's pretty much it, winger. Although you don't really have to "buy" anything, there are several offers that will let you do trials and if you cancel before the trial, there's no charge.
BTW, that is one sweet plan you have. Pretty close to mine, only more AT mins and cheaper.

It *IS* a pyramid scheme in disguise.
You have to have 5 people go through this process before you get the Ipod.
I had to give my credit card number 5 times before I gave up in frustration. If no one you know has a credit card (or ATM card with Visa/MC logo), don't waste your time.
If this were ethical, they would disclose this on the home page.

Go to the bank or most malls. They will give you an Visa, MC or AMEX gift card for like $1.50.
Or check out these people...
http://www.simongiftcard.com
http://www.webcertificate.com
Get like a $25 gift card (usually the cheapest you can get) and sign up for the programs and let the $1 authorization charges hit and then drop off, then spend the $25 you have on there. In any event, if you forget about signing up for the trial program, they won't be taking money off of your real credit card or your checking account debit card.

Spammers send out millions of emails hoping for a 1% response rate.
People who submit even the first part of this have purchased something, making it 100% for this group.
They got their money whether or not you ever talk anyone else into signing up....you, in effect, are the only spam they ever send (or need to).
EDIT: If you ever receive free iPod spam, it may be someone who has no intention of sending you one. The people who actually receive an iPod are better advertizing than they could ever buy.....

I started one of these a long time ago, but cancelled out when I realized exactly how much energy I'd expand in getting a "free" iPod... So can anyone who's recieved something "free" tell us if they spent any money at all on anything, how dificult it was to cancel the various services, and/or, incidentally, how much was spent on stamps and whatnot? I'm generally not a nitpicker, but it would be interesting to hear how much time and money went into it.
On a side note, I had friends who were under the spell of Girls Gone Wild for like two years... They were constantly going to send the videos back, and cancel, because they really do suck, but then one night you get drunk, or really bored, and there's nothing to do, and out comes the tape, and another month gets locked in.

I can only speak for me, but I spent very little money or time on the thing from start to finish.
From a monetary standpoint, I chose the Blockbuster Online deal which (at the time) was free for the first two weeks. After that, I could have canceled without paying a penny and still received credit. However, I enjoyed the service and decided to keep it. I still use it religiously. Two of my referrals, however, chose this very same deal and canceled right after the free trial was up without ever being billed and received credit. Another one tried out the same service and decided to keep it as well. The others chose the Video Professor (which they only paid shipping) and a credit card, which cost them nothing.
From a time standpoint, I probably spent a total of 20 minutes actually "working" at it. The majority of the time was just explaining to my friends how it worked and what they needed to do. It's not a difficult concept and is pretty pain-free IMHO.
I did have an issue with myself and one of my referrals not receiving credit for an offer, but those were resolved very quickly and efficiently. All I needed to do was copy and paste the body of the confirmation e-mail from the offering company into an e-mail and send it to them. It was usually corrected in about 24-48 hours. Very simple and extremely worth it. I am definitely a very happy customer and would obviously recommend and rate them very highly.

It's pretty much just one or two of us (SeminoleGrad) that are PM'ing our links.
I echo Seminole's post on the amount of work required to get 5 people. I got my iPod last December from one of the main sites that does the free ipod promotions and am now trying for another one through mp3players4free. There are also sites to get things like PCs, Mac minis, Sony PSPs and other stuff.
So far the two people that asked for links that signed up haven't completed offers, so I think for the most part, people lose interest.
But it's really not that much work at all. And in the end, you get a free item that's pretty useful.

You mean doing an offer and then cancelling it if it's not something you are interested in?
Yes, that can be a hassle, but if you keep on top of it, it's not too bad... considering what you end up with at the end and how much out of pocket it was vs. buying the product outright.
$300 for buying an iPod vs. $0-50 (depedning on the offer you do)...
Obviously, if you have the $$ to buy outright, then these free sites are not something you'd be interested in.
If you don't have the disposable income for these kinds of wants, then it's certainly worth a little time, effort and minimal money.

Well, considering the fact that I didn't bother a single friend or family member to get the iPod for free, there was really no shoehorning that happened.
I understand the complete nature of any and all pyramid schemes and would never force anyone to sign up if they didn't want to. For myself, I cannot stand pyramid schemes and hate being forced myself to join any of them, including those that people do for a living.
These free sites are pyramid in nature and no one should be forced or pressured to join them. And I extend that same respect to anyone. If they ask, then it's their choice.
