just picked up the sanyo 8200 from costco. i have one thing that bugs me about it though. the "speaker" button on the keypad does not light up very well compared to the other keys. is this normal? the letters in the middle of the word "SPEAKER" are very dim.
also, how do you adjust the contrast of the outside lcd screen? it is very hard to read unless i press a button to activate the backlight. on my old samsung i had no problem reading the screen without using the backlight. (this is in the daytime of course). thanks.

yea my speaker button is darker then the others as well, probably so that you can distinguish it from other buttons ? the one that doesnt light up as well as others is the speaker button woo hoo ... er something... contrast, i don't think you can, there's an option somewhere in display to change the colors to "high contrast" what good does that do, i have no idea, i cant see the screen worth crap in the sunlight regardless... i heard the 4920 is just as bad or worse...

any type of electronic are difficult to see in the daylight. So many people come on here and complain about it.....I dont care if you are watching a 42" plasma TV....put sunlight on it and you wont be able to see it.

My Garmin GPS 60C is made to be used in direct sunlight and has a screen that is easy to see anytime. I would suggest having the LED's changed on the keypad to resolve the lighting issue. I would like to have my wifes changed but I have to gotten around to it yet.

I just picked up a new 8200 as well, and I noticed that the middle of the word SPEAKER doesn't light up too! I was thinking about returning it but then I found this thread. Do any other 8200 users notice this?

Yes I noticed the same thing on the one I bought at Costco last week.

I already have a Sanyo phone and I was thinking about picking mine up on Amazon..there's an extra 50.00 rebate so final price would be 70.00 w/ the 2 year contract (-150.00). Any reason why I should go to Costco instead? I don't need the car charger or anything else...I already have that w/ my current Sanyo.

It the way the LEDS are placed on the circuit board...when they are changed by Yi Chen you dont notice it as much

Is it just the 8200s from Costco that have the dimly lit speaker button?

It is all how Ms. Randall said, by design of the manufactuer. Other than getting Yi Chen to change it, all you can do is provide feedback to Sanyo so that future designs will possibly keep those 'factors' in mind...

It looks like the $50 rebate is only good for new activations.
Anyone in the SF bay area know how much the 8200 is at costco? It's $229 at costcos in the Seattle area.
For new activations sprint stores were having the 8200 free out the door right after thanksgiving and best buy had that over the weekend (not sure if it is still going on).

Many phones have one or two buttons that don't light up as well as the others. The A680 has the dimly lit 'end' key. So did the A500.

Thank you for the feedback, I was thinking of returning it...if it was the only phone like that :)
