Is there a free website that will send me a weather alert for free like what sprint use to do? I know twc has it for a fee.

I think that one is just for daily weather forecasts. I haven't seen any severe weather alerts come through that.

There used to be a lot of free ones, but I don't think there are any now. It's not free, but http://www.weatherunderground.com is only $5 a year, and you can set a bunch of different kinds of alerts. I have them sent to xxx-xxx-xxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com. Works for me (and I live in tornado alley here) - sheureka

Our local CBS station sends sms weather alerts for free :D you can pick what counties you want the alerts for. Maybe one of the local stations in kasas does the same thing??

Check out http://www.emergencyemail.org/ and look at the side of the page for all of the states. They have news and weather etc.

I highly suggest this service!!!

You will also receive notice on terrorist attack, terrorist warning level changes, severe weather events, earthquakes, etc.

Its basically emergency management dispatch.

Being in Wichita, I would think you have had a chance to fully test out the severe weather alerts and already get tired of them :) .

I also found this link which may help in finding out who sends email alerts,

I'm trying the emergencymail.org site; funny thing is, if it doesn't work, you probably won't live to say how bad the service sucked. :hee:

Me too. All night long! I thought about coming in to the computer and telling the program to only send me alers between 7 am and 9 pm, but that would be sort of missing the point, wouldn't it? - sheureka

Its an excellent site to use. Iv been using it for 2 years now. Remember, if there is an alert for your area, but you get nothing, its not the site, your area may not send the info to them

Go to www.accuweather.com. You can also get 7 day forecasts and local and satellite radar images free at the same site. Under the main page go to wireless weather but don't use the downloadable applications for cell phones. Instead go to browsable content for pda's and use the free pda link. It works great on my pm8200.

Use your Sprint PCS e-mail (yourvisionusername@sprintpcs.com) and change the settings online for it (My Online Tools, from your account page) to notify you of new e-mails!

I've had a problem with my PCS mail ever since I got a new phone. If I try to go to PCSmail from my PC, it asks me to sign up, then I click on Sign Up and it brings me to a blank page. So I can't access PCSmail from my computer.

I can access it from my phone just fine, but I wish I could access it through the PCS website too :(

FloorMatt
01-06-2005, 03:17 PM
lol Just the opposite for me right now. I can access it on the web, but not the phone! And others are having that prob too :(

Lemme try it again...

edit: It works! (ON the phone) I deleted the cookies, restarted the browser, and viola!

I would suggest you to use your email add. instead of the phone number @messaging.sprintpcs.com cause when you use the email add. you won't get charge for extra mesages and sms and you can get more inf. that if you said mobile device, I'm telling you because I got the experience already

I have unlimited txt msgs, so that's not an issue for me.

I found this thread interesting, because I'm actually a severe weather nut, if I was living in Tornado Alley, which I used to, I'd be out there chasing storms like others do! But I wanted to add that when you get your weather alerts on your phone, you could then go to The Weather Channel dopplar radar, or My Cast dopplar radar to see if the alert effects exactly where you live. Just punch in the town you live in, and it will show as a white X in your county. My Cast shows dopplar with a automatic loop image of the storm, with TWC radar you have to manually activate the loop feature, but with TWC radar, you can "Pan" in any direction from county to county, following storms as they move through, without having to put new towns in as the storm moves across your phone display. Not only can you tell within a minute when a storm will hit you, you can also see exacty when it will end where you live, or see that the storm won't hit where you live at all, and you can know what to do, or not to do. I'm such a weather geek, I have TWC dopplar on my phone, and I live in So. Cal! I have it so I can watch the storms out your way, and warn freinds and family in Tx, and other places. Sorry if most of you know all this already! There is a monthly charge for this of course, I think 4-5 bucks a month. But if I was living in 'Tornado Alley' I would no dout have this on my phone.... Cheers

I agree...I pay for My-Cast, but it doesn't give you alerts unless you access the program.

Zurobi3...Internet Explorer 7 didn't really give me any other info. I did reply to your PM though.

Better than IE6 IMO. Isn't there some sort of phishing detection with FireFox...through a plugin or something? Maybe someone could try that.

But I still find it suspicious that this person registered and just made one post and now seems to have disappeared. Its almost like he's the owner of that site.

Plus that site hasn't been around very long. According to a Whois record, the domain was bought back in May.

I sign and just received an alert this morning but not enough just said that the National Weather Service release an special alert weather but that's it nothing else mean no inf. @ all and that's not good enough for me, I got better alerts from my local channels and they're free so I'm gonna keep the eye maybe for the weekend and then get rid of the site

No problem. I use both Firefox and IE7.

Sorry for that assumption. I'm sure you can understand why people are suspicious when a new member only makes one post and its a link to their website.

Do you have any idea why your site would come up as a suspicious site for phishing?

tcruise3
08-26-2005, 12:23 PM
Unfortunately, I haven't tested it with IE 7 and really don't understand the methodology it uses to determine it. I will certainly look into it and do my best to be "compliant" so my site isn't flagged as such.
I completely understand the skeptisism. I would be too. I truly dislike spam and spammers and have no intention of selling or otherwise distrubuting email addresses. I use them to send weather alerts in an attempt to warn users of potential weather dangers for FREE.
I'm also truly interested in comments about the site to make it better. As Zurobi3 has stated the information in the message is not sufficient. With any luck, I'll have that fixed by the end of today or tomorrow. I've spent an enourmous amount of time developing this site, I would love for it to be useful to everyone.

While on this same topic, I get this 5-day forecast on my phone at noon every day, without sender information and I can't unsubscribe. I wrote to eCare requesting on who the sender of this email is, and they haven't written back yet.

I would like to unsubscribe to this weather alert, but all the obvious subscribers that I checked show that they are not sending to my phone.

Anyone can shed light on how to unsubscribe to this daily 5-day weather report?

Thank you!!!
