Since it has been said several times here and on HF that the new Sanyo 5500 "201" hardware has the same redialing issue too. Please if you have a new model "201" not just a firmware update. Please vote your experience....Thanks its only a 4 day poll.

PLEASE DO NOT VOTE IF YOU HAVE A 101 OR A 100 VERSION SANYO 5500. PLEASE DO NOT IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER VERSION SANYO PHONE...THANKS

I voted "No Problems" but i must admit i've only had the phone for 2 days now.

I take it that you haven't had any problems except once or twice, correct?

Mine did it two times so far! But it isn't as bad as the 0101 ver. was, but it is a pain in the butt. So maybe we need a 0301 ver. hardware then, to finally to bring closure to this issue?

how will i know if the best buys have the new hardware version?

I have had my current 5500 for about a month now. I only notice the redialling issue, when I been using vision for up to 6 hours on any given day. I use my phone to surf the web, like a PC. so I use lots of data per day. Esp. posting at SU! LOL! So it seems that light users may never see the issue until several weeks or months, whereas heavy voice, data users see the issue sooner? But like I said, I only had the issue twice so far! *knocks on wood*

The best way is take the phone out of the box, slap a battery on the phone and ##786 it to see the hardware version that it has!

The only way to know if the phones at Best Buy have the new hardware is to ask the rep/manager when they received their shipment. I beleive it is only phones shipped after 4/22/04 have the 0201 hardware.

If you can get them to turn the phone on for you before you buy it, you can check the hardware version through the settings on the phone. Or, as someone pointed out a while ago, if you look at the back of the phone, without the battery on, there is a small hole in the bottom corner of the white ESN sticker (towards the data port on the phone) on all the new hardware versions. 0101 hardware does not have that hole.

SL10
06-03-2004, 10:19 AM
Yeah, there is a small hole on the bottom, left hand corner, on the ESN tag on the phone! Dam I learn something NEW today. LOL! My phone has the hole punch also.

SailRace
06-03-2004, 10:23 AM
Yeah, i just looked again to see the hole, and i think i was slightly mistaken, it appears to be a square dot that was marked on the ESN tag. Either way, that's what to look for.

Correct. MsRandall indicated that her FIRST 0201 ver. 5500 she had, it did it only one time. The first 0201 ver. she had was fried by a store tech. LOL! I don't know what the 2nd 5500 has done, yet? MsRandall has your 2nd 0201 5500 redialled any?

Same redialing issue on the 4920. It's happened about 5 times since Saturday.

MsRandall

Nope no redials....just the one on the first one that was fried. I was trying to get it to redial...had all my friends use it since it had unlimited minutes. The one redial was in a casino with low low signal.

He loves me did you vote???

I've had my 201 since the first week in May and have made 836 and only had two redials, but I think this was because I didn't have any bars of signal at the time I tried to make the calls.

Did you users of 201 hardware get brand new phones, or refurbished with the updated hardware installed?

SailRace

AFAIK, there are not refurb phones with the new hardware. The new hardware was released by Sanyo, and they have all been new phones. Mine certainly was.

Had for three days now,no redails BUT, .Dropped the same call 3 times after about 15min of talk. called back and 1min dropped again-and again after 1 min. Then I gave up. Just a bad glitch? or is this what what was sopposed to be fixed. Got 12 days before return date. Advice anyone?(NEW 201 hardware and 4 bars of signal)

All phones drop calls....I havent dropped any calls on my new one..but then again you have to look at the area and towers too. Do you drop calls with other phones in your area??? If you are dropping alot of calls go get it tested by the store....I am sure even the new hardware ones can have a defective one here and there.

I haven't dropped any calls with my Toshiba4050 even with 2 bars of signal any where I've been.Called the same # back with 5500 and 8 min-no drop. maybe just a tower thing?

Mine (201) is doing great, no dropped calls or redialing bugs. I haven't even upgraded the software yet.

Anyone know why I should up the software?

MsRandall
06-25-2004, 09:11 AM
I didnt upgrade the software on mine but the software gives you an additional RL alert, enhanced picture mail features, and more of a standard jump in volume settings

Man I never thought about that. I never got excited when ppl with the new hardware said the issue was fixed. And i always wondered why my 5500 worked flawlessly for the first few months(my first 5500) or the first few weeks(my last 2 5500's). Using Vision would explain it though. All 3 of mine were 0101 too though so it isn't like i could test and know whether Vision is the reason but this would make sense. It don't matter anyway though b/c i traded my 3rd 5500 for a Treo600. :)

there are two types of software that is used one has a 9 in it and from my study the redailing happens to the one that the ware starts or has a 7 in it. check it out you will see what I mean. I got rid of the one I had with the 7 (it had the redail thing) now the one with the 9 no problem so far. They both have 101..

I bought the 5500 the day it came out, and it worked flawlessly for about 4 months then it started doing the redial deal, like every 3rd or 4th call it would take me a few tries just to get out sometimes having to power down the phone and power it back up before it would work. Three weeks ago i took it in, they swapped it out for a 201 version and i have to say a huge improvement, i have never had a redial and i have even been receiving calls in my basement. The poll was closed before i could vote but i would have voted "No problems so far (Yes)"
