I installed the latest USB driver and the newest patch to the snapDialer software and I still can not connect. The error I get is The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or not configured properly. Is there something else I need to do to make this work? My install procedure is listed below:
-install usb drivers from updated usb package downloaded form site.
-install snapdialer program from CD.
-install update from site (SD_update_20-2_04_05.exe)

double click FutureDial Icon to launch program. Then click connect. The profile has Sprint 3G already in connection info. After clicking connect is when i get the error. I have tried a million and one combinations ofinstall reboot stuff and still I have had no luck.

The number it is trying to dial is #777. When I click connect I don't see any response from the phone that indicates it is dialing.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Try turning off your phone. My old A500 used to do that. A reboot would always fix the issue.

Check in your device manager under modems, ports, and USB devices. There should be no “!” marks or “unknown devices” if so it is a driver issue.

Also you can isolate the problem further by making a direct dialup connection in the Windows internet Connection Wizard using “#777” as the number to dial.

pinguskahn,

I'm getting the exact same message on an A620 I bought today:

"The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or not configured properly."

Did you figure this out? Please contact me if you did, or even if you didn't. That way if I find the solution, I can let you know.

You most likely have another device on the port that the dialing software is trying to use. Look in your device manager to veryify. I am almost sure that is your situation.

pinguskahn,

Apparently, this forum isn't letting anybody email me. It looks to me like I have it set up to allow emails. Anyway, contact me here:

3G Cables, you are right. I went into Control Panel and "Phone and Modem Options" and "Modems" and set the Port number to 256 and it tried to connect. Actually the display on the phone said it was connected. Then the display came up with:

"Error #67 - Registration failure. Your Vision unsername and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again. Note: Repeated entries on an invalid password during a 24 hour period will result in a 20-minute suspension. A suspended Vision username may not be used until the suspension expires, even when submitted with the correct password. If this problem persiste, you may need to contact Sprint."

The FutureDial SnapDialer says to leave the username and password blank.

Thanks for your help!

Make sure you can access Vision on your phone first without being plugged into your computer.

Please join us over at the "3gcables- a total rip off " thread and please feel free to join in. This is just another instance of how I help people who didnt even purchase from us. The person there thinks that we have the worst tech support ever. I am not sure how he figures that since he never once asked for help from us. hehe =)

I'm feeling pretty dumb now. When I try to access "web" on the phone, I get this message:

"Preparing Vision services. Please wait." ...and then I get "Error #1012. Could not prepare data services. Please try again later. If the problem persists, you may need to contact Sprint."

Here's the deal. When I was at Radio Shack buying this stuff, the guy said I didn't need to sign up for the $15 per month Vision service because the phone accesses the Sprint data services as it needs to automatically. Is it possible that he was wrong? Do I need to get Vision or something else "turned on" for my laptop to be able to connect to the Internet using SnapDialer with my A620?

The guy at Radio Shack has no idea what he is talking about. That is why he is working there. Sorry, no offense. There are a few knowledgeable Radio Shack employees but for the most part, don’t listen to a thing they have to say.

Little does he know that with that phone you can not dial into a third party ISP. Not only that he just assumed it dials into Vision and probably didn’t even know that there are some phones that can dial into third party ISP’s. Your phone MUST dial into Vision which you do need to pay $15 per month for. His comment actually makes no sense. He must not know a thing about Vision. He just assumed everyone has Vision, and they should free for the first few months of the phone then it becomes $15 per month extra.

Glad I could help find your problem. Get Vision and you are good to go.

I got the same "The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or not configured properly." message when i tried to connect with both a Samsung SPH-A620 and A680. I had previously used the software with a Samsung SPH-A500 without any trouble. I was able to remedy the problem by going into the "Network Connections' folder, and deleting one of the dial up connections that was present, but unused. I wish i could give more details, but once connections are deleted, they seem to be gone for good. I didnt look at it before i deleted it because it didnt seem significant, and now that its gone, i cant see what the settings were. Hope this helps someone.
