View Full Version : Post your "high-quality" QCP ringtones here

I know there are many threads with "post your ringtones here" but I'm sick of the boring and/or low-quality midi ringers, I feel that qcp is being neglected...

I know qcp are far from "high" quality... but they're the best option as far as I'm concerned.

I find that they make great ringers as long as you have an isolated instrument (guitar solo with no symbols crashing). Anyways here are a few that I made and use daily... they came out pretty good.

Guns N Roses "Sweet Child of Mine" intro riff (http://www.rosswashere.com/ringtones/gnr1.qcp)

Snoop Dogg's "Gs and Hustlas" (short version) (http://www.rosswashere.com/ringtones/snoop2.qcp)

Snoop Dogg's "Gs and Hustlas" (long version) (http://www.rosswashere.com/ringtones/snoop1.qcp)

INXS "Devil Inside" guitar riff (http://www.rosswashere.com/ringtones/inxs.qcp)

The Vines "Ride" (song from the new iPod commercial) (http://www.rosswashere.com/ringtones/ride.qcp)

Please post your favorite QCPs here, if you want them hosted on the web just let me know.

What programs do you use? I dont necessarily "amplify" mine, I resample them and then normalize them so they are the loudest possible without clipping (I use soundforge 7.0) Also why would you bother making gcd? can you send those from phone to phone? I backup all my stuff on my pc anyways so I dont see the need for that.

I believe mine above are juuust about as good as you can get with this insane amount of compression (most .qcp files are about 1-1.5kb/s... 10 times more compression than the average mp3 and 1000 times smaller than raw cd-audio... not much breathing room.)

Here's what I do:

1. Find a wav or mp3 that you want
2. get a good sound editor (I use Sound Forge 7.0)
3. load the file, isolate the part of it that you want (delete the parts you dont want in your ringer)
4. RESAMPLE it to 8,000hz but keep it as 16-bit. (important)
5. convert it to mono or isolate either the left or right channel (I prefer the latter rather than mixing the 2 channels together, with this much compression the less stuff you have going on the better.) Next, and most importantly, you want to NORMALIZE the file, which makes it as loud as possible without clipping. In sound forge you do this by going to process --> normalize.
6. you should now save your ringer as an 8khz, 16bit, mono wav file.
7. go here (http://www.cdmatech.com/solutions/products/purevoice_download.jsp) and download both the player (currently v1.3.2) and more importantly the converter (v3.0)
8. extract the converter into a directory with your .wav file, and go to a windows command prompt
9. at the command prompt type "pvconv nameofyourwavefile.wav" without the quotes and using the name of your .wav file. (this will convert your .wav to a .qcp file which you can use with the focus uploader or any other uploader.)
10. post your .qcp file here and share the wealth!

As for the distortion, you're going to get it no matter what if there are many frequencies in use at once (avoid bass and symobols at the same time, etc) because of the insane amount of compression, this format cannot handle a lot going on at once... which is why I recommend an isolated instrument for best results (check out my guns n roses guitar riff one above... it'd sound like poop if another instrument was present.)

If something such as super low frequency bass is messing up your results, you can try messing with an EQ in your sound editor before saving/converting the wav file also.

If one of you could post the best possible way to create qcp ringtones without the distortion, it would be greatly appreciated :)

It would be a real shame if you couldn't d/l a program to do that. The thing plays MP3s.....it should do qcp. I don't know the specs, but you'd think....

I folollowed all instruction u said by getting sound forge and purevoice player + converter but when I tried to convert the .wav to .qcp its giving me 0kb size of the file, plz it will be nice from u if u can explain to me why it doesnt work for me and the big favor if u can give us the screen shot using sound forge because it kinda complicated.

TIA :)

heh, i dont really have time to do all that... if you use soundforge to end up with an 8khz, 16bit, mono wav file you should be fine... as that's the exact format that QCP will demand... beyond that I have no clue why you're getting a 0 byte file...

As for sound forge, open an mp3, delete the parts that you dont need, double-click either the left or right channel, go to edit-->copy then file-->new (44,100khz, 16bit, mono), then edit-->paste into the new file so it's mono instead of stereo. then go to process-->resample and put in 8,000 for the sample rate. Then go to process-->normalize to make it slightly louder. Now just go to file-->save-as a microsoft wav file.

assuming your file is called blah.wav, you should just have to type:

pvconv blah.wav

and it will spit out blah.qcp.

I'm very new (just got Sprint on Sunday) and picked the Samsung A600 as my first phone and absolutely love it.

I've been messing around with learning WML and the various multimedia formats so here's a link to a ringtone I made from a MP3 preview off of Walmart.com:

Frou Frou - Holding Out For A Hero.gcd (http://www.darkstarpro.com/wap/ringtones/Frou Frou - Holding Out For A Hero.gcd)

or

Frou Frou - Holding Out For A Hero.qcp (http://www.darkstarpro.com/wap/ringtones/Frou Frou - Holding Out For A Hero.qcp)

It's also linked on my (extremely small, but hopefully growing soon) WAP site (http://www.darkstarpro.com/wap/).

HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HELP YOU ALL!

How to create voice ringers from MP3 or WAV files

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"How do I create voice ringers from MP3 or WAV files?"

To do so, you need 4 programs:

* Winamp v 2.9, avaliable here: http://classic.winamp.com/

* Windows Sound Recorder : installed by default on all windows-based PCs. Located in the Start Menu->Programs->Accessories->Entertainment

* Qualcom's "PureVoice Converter for Windows" and "PureVoice Player and Recorder", avaliable to download from: http://www.cdmatech.com/solutions/p...ce_download.jsp

** The PureVoice Player/Recorder is optional. Install it only if you want to listen to the *.qcp files which are created when you do the conversion. **

Once you have all 3/4 programs installed on your computer, you are ready to create your ringer.

First you need to extract the PVConverter.zip file into a folder on your hard drive. A good location would be "C:\PVConverter\".

Now here is where you have to make sure you follow these directions perfectly. First take an MP3 or WAV file and open it in Winamp. Make sure not to hit play.

Go to the Winamp Options menu and change the output format to "Nullsoft DiskWriter". Then click on the configure button, and change the output directory to "C:\PVConverter\" or which every directory you used when you extracted the PVConverter.

Check the box which says "Convert to format" and click on the "..." button. From that list, select "PCM 8.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Mono" and press the OK button.

Now click on the play button and Winamp will create a WAV file for you. Make sure to listen to this file, as it will be then cropped and used to create the ringer. If you dont like how it sounds, try another file. Once you are satisfied with the WAV file, you can move to the next step with is cropping the file.

Run the Sound Recorder program and goto "File->Open" and point the program to the same directory where you installed the PVConverter and where the WAV was stored when it was created by Winamp.

Listen the file, and when you find a position you would like the ringer to start, press pause, and goto the Edit menu and select "Delete before current position". Then continue playing it till you find a postition you would like to stop on. Once you find it, click on "Edit->Delete after current position".

Now if you want to make the ringer louder, use the option to increase volume by 25%. This will make the final ringer louder.

Note: The files should be less then 30 seconds in length, because after that, the phone goes automatically into voicemail.

Make sure to save the file into the same directory as the PVConverter is installed, and to give it a name with no spaces. That was actually the hardest and most time-consuming part. Once you have created this small file, you are ready to convert it.

Goto the Windows Explorer and open up the folder where you saved the WAV file. This should be the same folder where the PVConverter is saved. Just drag the WAV file onto the "PVConv.exe" file, and it will automatically create the "*.qcp" file.

Example: I create a WAV file from Winamp called "TestingForDeval.wav". When I drag this file onto the icon for "PVConv.exe", it will create a "TestingForDeval.qcp" file. This file can be played using the optional player which can be downloaded from the site on the top.

Once this file is created, goto http://www.sprintusers.com/focus , enter your phone number and the path of the file, and you will have your new custom ringer sent right to your phone. Enjoy

I found these instructions and they work!
NOW, here is a pointer, I have Windows XP when you exract the converter, it doesnt' load up in to a program window, that is why in the above instructions you need to save the files to the Main file where the converter was extracted and installed. Then when you have the .wav file trimmed down to the 30 seconds or less, Save it in that main folder where the converter is located. Once this is done you click the .wav file and drag it over the converter program icon and drop it on top, you may or may not see anything happen depending on the speed of your computer, but in that folder you will see a file spit out, that has the .wav file name with a .qcp file extension.
Another hint, use the best quality MP3 you can find, cause when you start converting to wav and then qcp you WILL lose a lil quality, no way around it. I also am playing with making my own voice files of sayings and stuff, you will need to use windows recorder or I am also using a shareware version of Precision CD WAV MP3 Converter. I downloaded it from CNET.com Free.

Hope this helps!, I am new here. I have a VM4500/scp5500 and if you follow the instructions above, it should all work just fine.

Gotta give credit to the guy above who I found these instructions through.

I've managed to cook up a few QCP ringtones after doing a little research. Basically, I crop the .wav file from an MP3 using an open source program named Audacity - found at http://audacity.sourceforge.net if you want it. Next, I load up WinXP's Sound Recorder, open the file, hit properties, and change the sample rate and bit depth to 16bit, 8hKz and make it mono. After that's all done I pop open a command line, run the QCP converter, and have the file.

I've found that by using a high-pass filter in Audacity it can smooth out the annoying high pitched garbling to a small degree, but it's not perfect. I'm still trying to find out how to get rid of that annoyance, so if anyone's got tips let me know. My 8200 plays these clips pretty well, but the high pitched distortion is really annoying...

Anyway, here's the ringtones I've done so far. Let me know what you think.

NiN - Closer (opening intro) (http://www.kalie.net/ringtones/closer-beats.qcp)
NIN - Into the Void (intro) (http://www.kalie.net/ringtones/intothevoid.qcp)
Korn - It's On (http://www.kalie.net/ringtones/it's-on.qcp)
Korn - Freak on a Leash (chorus) (http://www.kalie.net/ringtones/freak-chorus.qcp)
Chemical Brothers - Piku (http://www.kalie.net/ringtones/piku.qcp)

Enjoy.

thanks...im glad those instructions helped....i'm actually looking for an easier set of instructions now, because its hard to get that older winamp program

You don't need the older version, you can use the newer versions.

to access the settings on the newest version click the top left corner of winamp to access the file menu, then select Options, and then select Preferances. Then follow the instructions the same on setting up the output type.

is there an easy way to increase the volume on these things? i like the really simple way of creating them by hitting record on the purevoice player/recorder and then just playing the mp3 with an mp3 player... it's the easiest. however, they just aren't loud enough...

also, i can't get the converter to work right in windows xp... i tried just dragging the wav's to the converter and that didnt work... and i also tried opening the converter using a command line... and it didn't work either. help!

yeah...if you follow my instructions, they work fine...you can raise the volume in sound recorder. the only way the convertor will work right is if the WAV file is the correct format. Once you drag the file over convertor program, it will create the QCP file

Here are the instructions I gave to a "computer-illiterate" friend:

SETUP

1.) Download program file from http://www.sprintusers.com/downloads/gcdcreator (gcdcreator11.zip)
2.) Find file on your hard drive where you saved it, and double click on the file to open it.
3.) Using Winzip or another program to unzip it, extract all files to a directory on your hard drive.
4.) Double click the "setup.exe" file.
5.) Click "OK" to setup
6.) Click the picture of the computer to start installation
7.) Click continue to crate the Program group
8.) Click ok to end setup.

Run "SOUND RECORDER" Program

1.) go to "START", "PROGRAMS", "ACCESSORIES", "ENTERTAINMENT" and find "SOUND RECORDER" and run it.
2.) in "SOUND RECORDER", click "FILE", "OPEN" and look for the ".wav" file to open and edit for conversion.
3.) under "EFFECTS" increase or decrease volume to desired volume ( if alot of distortion is heard after the file is on your phone, here is where you want to come to reduce the volume by hitting the "decrease volume" 4 or 5 times, until the sound is right for your phone) Remember, very bass-y songs will be distorted, no matter what you do, unless you use another program with better options to equalize the sounds.
4.) Listen to file and hit the "Pause" where you want to have the recording start.
5.) Click "EDIT" then "Delete before current position"
6.) Listen to file and hit the "Pause" where you want to have the recording end.
7.) Click "EDIT" then "Delete after current position"
8.) Listen to file and repeat steps 3 through 7 as necessary to get desired ringer.
9.) Go to "FILE", "SAVE AS", name file and under "FORMAT" on the bottom of the save screen, choose "CHANGE..." and under "ATTRIBUTES" changes to "8,000 kHz, 16 bit, Mono", then hit "OK", then hit "SAVE".
10.) Close "SOUND RECORDER"

Run GCD CREATOR" Program

1.) go to "START", "PROGRAMS", "GCDCreator v1.10", and click on "GCDCreator v1.10"
2.) Once the program opens, click on the "WAV to QCP" button on the left side of the program screen.
3.) Once the little window opens, click on the ">" button on the left side, and go to and "OPEN" the wave file you just altered and saved for your ringer.
4.) in the little window, click on the "Convert WAV" button on the bottom left side of the program screen. If the final version is over 60kbs, you will probably need to cut it down to use on most phones. Go back to Sound recorder and cut the wav file down and follow the instructions in this part again to recreate the qcp file.
5.) File is done.

DOWNLOAD FILE TO YOUR PHONE

1.) go to http://www.t1mmy.net/visionTool.html
2.) Click on the "Browse..." button and locate the WAV ringer you just created, and click "OPEN"
3.) Enter your cellphone with area code in the "Phone Number" box.
4.) Click the little green arrow to the right of the "Phone Number" box.
5.) File has been sent.

HEAR RINGER

1.) On your phone you will get a text message with a web address in it. Go to that web address.
2.) Download will begin on your phone and you will have to follow the instructions by choosing "YES" and/or "OK" to download.
3.) Locate ringer in your "Download" "Ringer" directory on your phone and play.

I hope this works for most of you! Good luck!

I found this awesome site in search of trying to learn how to create your own ringtones by using your own music. I found this link: http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11225 which was fabulous at first....... I was able to make two songs and then turn them into .qcp files. But now when I load the song into Winamp, and since the Outout has already been selected, all I have to do is press play. I receive an error saying that the file has already been created in the path specified. And when I click okay, it then says that the file could not be created.

Shortcut:

Move the .wav file into the same folder as the pvconverter.exe using cut (ctrl-x) and paste (ctrl-v).

Then click + drag the .wav file and drop it on top of your pvconverter.exe it should bring up a black command prompt box that will close almost instantly and you will now have a yourwav.qcp

Oh, and I've never used Sound Forge before. I know that Sonic Foundry makes really good programs, but I prefer Cool Edit for editing my audio files.

Hello, in my attempt to do my own .qcp files, I finally made some and they work great on my Sanyo RL-4920. The files are some popular "reggaeton" music from Puerto Rico. Since I have a Macintosh (Mac OS X 10.3.7), it wasn't easy to make te conversion to pvconv.exe but, since I have Virtual PC, I could make the conversion ;). I used Sound Studio 2 to import the .mp3 file, resampling it, trim it, normalize it, and then exporting it to .wav (yes, using the same program). Then I launched Virtual PC 6 (running Windows 98 SE) and successfully converted my .wav files. Quite easy right? Enjoy these qcp ringtones. I'm sure that some of you will be looking for music like these. ;)

DO it like this
Save all your wav files into the same directory as the PureVoice Converter.
Open that folder on your computer. Goto tools> view> icons
Then you can just drag and drop the wav file onto the purevoice icon
It will look like a little black square with blue outline and c:> in it.
If it outputs 0kb that means that your not saving your wav file as windows pcm 8kb/sec mono. It must be mono but you can pick either 16kb or 8kb

I have Sound Forge and tried to follow your method, but it will not take a MP3 is that correct in SF? It's saying unsupport file type... Should I start with a wav file, and then follow your method?

I folollowed all instruction u said by getting sound forge and purevoice player + converter but when I tried to convert the .wav to .qcp its giving me 0kb size of the file, plz it will be nice from u if u can explain to me why it doesnt work for me and the big favor if u can give us the screen shot using sound forge because it kinda complicated.

TIA :)

Same with me when I get to NORMALIZE you don't specify what setting. You also said save as 8khz is that the same as the 8000hz you had us convert it to?

When I convert to mono (one channel it plays very slow, and when I'm finished saving the file I hear nothing (FILE SIZE "0")

Please let us know if we've missed a step I would really like to create some very good quality QCP files....

Thank you...

The wav file is probably the wrong tpye ... needs to be 16 bit, 8000hz (yes, same as 8khz as K stands for 1000), mono ...
Read DEVAL's FAQ listed in the "before you make ringers" thread. He does a great job of explaining in that thread ... Good luck!!! :music:

Oh, and by the way ... qcp compresses the dog hocky out of a music file and is commonly the "worst" quality sound file type ... :indiff:

7. go here (http://www.cdmatech.com/solutions/products/purevoice_download.jsp) and download both the player (currently v1.3.2) and more importantly the converter (v3.0)
8. extract the converter into a directory with your .wav file, and go to a windows command prompt
9. at the command prompt type "pvconv nameofyourwavefile.wav" without the quotes and using the name of your .wav file.

[QUOTE=oakleez]I know there are many threads with "post your ringtones here" but I'm sick of the boring and/or low-quality midi ringers, I feel that qcp is being neglected...

I know qcp are far from "high" quality... but they're the best option as far as

Does anyone have a dvd-rip of the x-men cartoon theme? My woman wants it as her ringer, and the only mp3 I could find on the web is NOISY. And it's against my religion to type things in all caps, so that means alot.

heh, i dont really have time to do all that... if you use soundforge to end up with an 8khz, 16bit, mono wav file you should be fine... as that's the exact format that QCP will demand... beyond that I have no clue why you're getting a 0 byte file...

Instead of using the command line, will pure voice work by using the convert selection on the File menu?

I have a weird question. I have a file I downloaded from my Sanyo 5600 which was recorded on the Voice Recorder. I need to convert that file to a format that I can listen to on a computer. You see its a Voice Mail Recording from a friends son who died in a car accident and they really want it since its the only recording of his voice they have. Can you help?

Hi, the QCP ringtones are excelents, I'm using a nokia 3205 phone, and I have a question: are there another sound formats compatible with the phones (except Mp3, wav and arm, I have tried with all of them)???, I convert .Wav to Qcp ringtones with Qualcomm PureVoice, but the problem is that the sound quality isn't very good... Can I change the sound quality in order to improve my ringtones.. Are there other converters available???, my e-mail is: gustavoelgenio@msn.com.

When You're converting any mp3 to wav file, use your equalizer to turn the bass and treble down. You will want your EQ curve to be an upside down parabola.
Once you have your EQ set so that the bass doesnt overwhelm everything else, be sure that when you take the Windows Voice Recorder to trim it down to size, click save as, then at the bottom change the 44000khz/16bit stereo to 8000khz/16bit mono

:) Hi, I think that it's not necessary to convert wav to mp3 files, 'cause I'm using QUALCOMM PureVoice version 2.0.0  and when you're going to open a file you can select [All Files(*.*) type] and then you can open a mp3 or other types of sound files in order to convert it to QCP ringtones...

Yup but I still get distortion so I wonder if we need to change it to a different MP3 format before converting it over.

there can't be any spaces in ANY of the file path when you're uploading
so you cant have like: c:\documents and settings\pvconv\etc.... Cant have the spaces anywhere
try changing the root directory to something else

I'm having problems making my own QCP ringers. I'm using wavepad to edit and save my mp3 to 8hz 16 bit mono. Sounds fine when I play the resultant wav, but after I run it through PVConverter I get a file with 0 size. When I try to play it in Purevoice it says ionvalid file format. ***?

LouieLouieohoh

Hmmm .. I've never used wavpad ... if you're using a PC (not mac) open the file with "Sound recorder" after you use wavpad. Go to file, properties, Convert Now, then setup the file as PCM, 8.000khz, 16bit, mono ... then resave. Then try converting with QCPV.
