Just noticed this on SprintPCS.com:
Receive $10 in service credits when you sign up for both Online Invoicing and Automatic Payment via your checking account. Or, receive a $5 service credit when you sign up for only one of these two services.
Online Invoicing and Automatic Payment are free and easy.
Online Invoicing and Automatic Payment are free services available to Sprint PCS customers. Once you're enrolled, you'll enjoy secure online access anytime to all your invoicing information. Say goodbye to writing checks and paying for postage!
Your service credit(s) will be applied on one of your next two invoices after enrollment is complete.
(I had not signed up for either before, but always figured I would one day, so now I get a $10 credit. Nice!)

No service credit is enough to allow me to authorize Sprint to automatically pay my bill each month.

Well, if you don't want the auto-pay option, you can still get $5 for signing up for online invoice, instead of receiving a paper bill in the mail.

That is something I would consider. I've just heard too many horror stories about people being billed too much when on autopay and then having to fight for months to get the error corrected. I want to review my bill before I pay it.

i looked into this, you dont get the 5 dollar credit until AFTER 12 months of online invoice.

Happened to me. Many times! It's bad! Very bad! It's like the billing reps flunked 2nd grade math!
This is why I have them auto-pay my Citibank credit card since Citibank is really good about disputing strange charges.
I am tired fighting the Sprint billing department, so I just work with Citibank and let Citibank fight Sprint.

Yeah, I'm one of those auto-pay horror stories. I made the mistake of signing up for that when I started my service in '99. They somehow applied it to SOMEONE ELSE's ACCOUNT! Then if that wasn't bad enough, it took over four months for me to resolve the issue, and despite hours and hours of wasted time on the phone with Sprint, was only done so by closing my credit card account. It was bad enough that they screwed up in the first place, but the scary thing was that they could not stop the charges that were showing up on my credit card, and had no idea who account I was paying. After that incident, there is no way I would even consider trusting Sprint to auto charge me for anything. I prefer having control over when and how much I pay them...

i will never pay on the phone again. called up once to make a 40.00 payment ( the entire bill was 40, mind you) and they take 400.00 from my checking account.
I call back a day later after the charge goes through and they say "sorry - you said 400 we take 400" i asked if they record the conversations they say NO, we dont .hmmmm......I talk to 100 people, explain WHY would i pay 400 for a40.00 bill they STILL say nnothing they can do and i will just have a credit on my bill.
I really needed that $ too at that point!
a MONTH later some really nice guy from exec .serv gives me a $200.00 additional credit on my bill. but no refund came, ever. I will never everrrrr pay on the phone again. :(((

I'd be on the street if Sprint took an extra $400 from me one month.

Here's the fine print:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nationwide Network reaches over 240 million people. Service credit offers are available online to customers who sign up for Online Invoicing and/or automatic payment from their checking account for at least a 12 month period. Offers expire 12/31/04. Terms and conditions apply. Offers may not be combinable with other offers. Subject to credit. Offers are subject to change without notice. Customers that are already enrolled in Online Invoicing or automatic payments from their checking account are not eligible for this offer. Automatic payment from a credit card is available but does not qualify for service credit. Service credit will appear within 2 invoices of enrollment. Sprint employees are not eligible for this offer.
I'm glad y'all posted this. I was getting ready to enroll. Now, I'm not.

You a man who's been around the block.
People, autopay using a credit card IF spcs allows. If something goes wrong (against you), file a DISPUTE w/ your credit card co and they normally will credit you the disputed amount in full until the issue is resolved. If within a certain time period (about 1-2 months) SPCS does not get back to the cc co, the cc co says "touch noogles" to SPCS and you do not have to pay the disputed amt. Well, at least how AmEx and Citibank has handled it for me in the past. Well, knowing SPCS, they will get hung up and not respond to your dispute in time and u get a free one month !!!

why do you not already get it? it's a money thing and a liability.
To have a paper is hard facts of your bill which can be disputed in court or in a store and can not be deleted or changed by a company once they are sent.
It also costs them postage and envelope and paper costs and ink for every accounts bill. Email is free and can simply be automated almost without human interaction.
also direct payment is good for them. They will get there money more often from people this way. Even if they don't have money in there account since it would most likely be a CHL transfer they will take the money and just put your account in negatives if the funds are not there and then you owe the bank. (this is why almost all companies push for direct billing from a credit or checking account)
It is a liablity to you on either front and anyone who does marketing or runs there own business will agree.
ps. Most people are stupid enough to do it the easy way and just put themselves at risk. I would not recommend anyone do this if you do your own financing or your account is for a small business.
