Hi-
My new Vision plan just kicked in today, and I eagerly tried using my Sanyo 8100 on my PC to get online. I'm using a USB sync/charger cable and PCS connection manager. When I open the connection manager, all I get is "PCS Vision: Initializing..." which just hangs indefinitely.

The cable appears to be fine, as I can transfer images and ringers to and from the phone with it. I'm running Win XP Home.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Bad Connection Manager install.

Uninstall Connection Manger with your phone unplugged.
Restart computer
Re-install Connection Manager (may need to download a new version as the one you have might be corrupted)
Plug in phone when asked to
At this point it should work.

Does this use the minutes from the account? Mine says "Data Transmission" or something similar---I thought it was supposed to say 3G when I connected with the Connection Manager.

Thanks in advance

If you are connected with Sprint Connection Manager, it dials #777 for you and you are not using up your minutes.

OK---so if I don't use the connection manager it will use the minutes?

I thought at one time I heard it was supposed to read 3G on the screen?
Can you confirm that when I use the Connection Manager, and it is keeping track of kB's used, etc...it will not bill me.

I have the Unlimited Vision package---and just want to use it to access my e-mail while sitting in the airport, but not get billed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm fairly certain it uses minutes. I have a different phone. It deducts minutes just like a phone call, but not like a modem. They charge extra for the modem or fax usage.

What software are you using to dialup truckinusa? and what service provider do you have?

I know for a fact that you will not get minutes deducted if you dial #777. So if you want to be for sure, just make a dialup connection using "#777" and you will for sure not get charged minutes.

if you don't use the connection manager, you will not use your minute. though it still can be debated here, as of now, provided you are using it as you mentioned to just check email, you will be fine and not be billed any extra over the vision service you are currently paying.

So how should I be charged for vision services. I am using a treo 300 with pdanet software? I just assumed that you were charged when using a data cable? Do I get charged when surfing the web on the phone too?

For any web access you do not get charged if you are using Vision. Well, you pay the $15 per month or whatever it is for Vision but that is it. If however you dial into something OTHER than "#777" then you are getting charged minutes.

Using Sprints Connection Manager is the same thing as dialing up manually to "#777" you do NOT get charged minute usage.

All Sprint Connection Manager does is dial #777 for you. So you will not be charged extra for getting on the Vision network.

Yes, ANYTIME you dial #777 you are dialing into Vision and it does not use your minutes.

I use Linux, 2000, and ME with my Sanyo 8100. NEVER a problem, XP was just poorly written software. Not only is it a memory and resource hog. But it runs REALLY slow, and tracks more of your personal life than other version of Windows.

Personally I have found just the opposite of XP professional.

I use ME, Linux, 2000 Professional, and XP only if I have to. It's way clunkier than I'd like, and not as secure as Windows 2000 either. XP is a hacker\spammers delight. Windows 2000 can be hacked too, just not as easily as XP. I would rather use Mandrake 10.0 over XP, that's how much it annoys me !

Yesterday morning I logged onto my pcs connection manager and all was fine. Yesterday afternoon I tried logging on and I get: Connection Failure: The remote computer did not respond. Blah blah blah.

Anyway I noticed in the Alert Log that now the phone is dialing #777#777 instead of just #777. When I #777 from my phone I get "The feature code you have entered is not valid"

So did Sprint finally disconnect this number? :(

Phone is a Sanyo 5300 and using USB data cable with PCS connection manager version 1.00.040. I was also told not to update that version.

You cannot dial #777 from the handset, it must be done through software. It is working fine.

Well, it's not working fine for me anymore  I did not upgrade my software...nothing changed on my side as I was connected earlier in the day and then nothing.

My error pops up in less time than it could dial and establish a connection so something is up....*sigh* I don't use it but occasionally when I'm traveling so would like to get it fixed before my next trip in a couple months so any help would definitely be appreciated!

Simply change it back to #777 instead of #777#777 If you have already done that then check if you get Vision by seeing if you can go on the web on the HANDSET in that location without the data cable connected.

OK, I am really new to this. I have a Samsung a640 (VGA1000). I would like to be able to transfer the phonebook and pictures from the phone to a PC and also sync the phonebook with the PC. I have a cable. Where do I get the software and which is the best? Thanks in advance.

I can get vision on my phone no problem. I cannot find out where in the software properties to change the number back to 777. It doesn't allow me to edit the properties. *GRRRR* Gonna try to make a new connection and see if it will allow me to edit it that way.

That is because you can’t edit it from the shortcut. You must go back into your control panels and edit it from there. Or as you said setup a new connection.

No problem. Logically you should be able to edit it from the shortcut but for whatever reason they don’t let you. It threw me at first a long time ago and took me a while to figure out.
