I lost my Sanyo 5500 this weekend and got the insurance thing done. When I get the phone today, I get the Toshiba VM4050. I feared this would happen. I can't stand this phone and really want my Sanyo back. Why would they send me a phone that doesn't have readylink. Also the toshiba is $20.00 cheaper and not the same price as the Toshiba. How do I go about getting this fixed. I have a feeling that they will give me a hard time. Please gimme some advice. Thanks

ReadyLink.

Bada-boom.

Seriously, ReadyLink is a big feature. It was probably some screwup on their end.

Sanyo 5500 are in extremely tight supply at the moment due to high demand and low inventories, new or used.

I spoke to them last night, and I told them that I received a phone that doesn't have readylink, and they told me that they will send one out within 5 days. I really hope it's a 5500. I'll keep you guys posted. Laterz

Well finally I got my replacement to the Toshiba which I didn't want. They sent me a brand new Sanyo PM-8200. I mean it's not the 5500, but I need a phone badly and don't know if these guys will ever send me the right phone. What should I do? Just keep it and learn to like it or call them up and try to get my 5500 back.. Let me know. I feel so depressed right now. :(

I'd call them and ask them to send you a 5500 when they get some, and until then enjoy the 8200.

Would you be happy/satisfied with the 8200? What color is it? Maybe you can sell it on Ebay or trade for a 5500.

I would keep trying to get the 5500. The price difference is $100 between the 5500 and the 8200. Thats what would piss me off. But the 5500 is going to be hard to get. I just had my 5500 replaced and had to take a 8200. I was told I could get the 5500 as soon as they came available, lets hope it happens. The 8200 is very nice, but its no 5500.

get the 5500 back. Its the best phone out on the cell phone market.

just be specific. get a supervisor if needed. happened to a friend. tell them that you had a ready-link capable video phone, and you expect to get a ready-link capable video phone in return. the 5500 is the only one that has both. they can put the order thru, it will just be backordered and will take a few weeks most likely. but at least you have the 8200 in the meantime until your 5500 arrives

At least 40K backorders. Rumor has it that Sanyo is having a shortage of screens for the VM4500, and they're trying to procure more in ASAP.

Once they're in, and past customs, it should only be 2-3 weeks before they're back in the stores.

If the screen thing is true then they cannot get the 7300 going either. I am pretty sure they use the same screen.

The 8200 Sanyo has the Ready-Link feature and camera, but it doesn't have the video clip capability that the VM 4500/5500 has. Still, the 8200 is an awesome phone.

Here in Austin, every Sprint Store is out and will not take backorders for the vm4500. But every Radio Shack in town has tons of them. *** you say? Me too.

Perhaps Lockline will allow you to get your replacement at the Shack?

Well after much waiting, I finally got back a 5500. It took much complaining and lots of calls to lockline, but I'm happy because instead of sending me a blue one which i had before, they sent me a silver one. It's hot. For anyone in my situation, just keep calling and complaining till you get a representive who will help.. Strange thing is they never sent a return package for their Sanyo 8200. Maybe they forgot about it or maybe they will let me keep it for all my troubles. Dunno. LATERZ

FYI, Pls understand that I am not flaming or anything, but you need to follow through and get Lockline to send you a return kit for the phones, or you will seriously regret it in 30-90 days when they bill the phones to your acct!

I KNOW, I've been there, done that. I had the Kyocera 6035 that was replaced w/ a LGTP 1100! (I know, ***!). I had to call Lockline 5 times to get this corrected. Finally they sent me a refurb 6035. But never sent a return kit or said anything about the 1100. Well, I put in my bedside dresser drawer and forgot about it. Until they put $100 charge on my acct. I called Lockline, raised hell and they finally sent me a return kit 5 days later, I sent the 1100 back, tracked it w/ the UPS sticker # and when it showed returned to the warehouse, I got a Supervisor to credit my acct. This has also happend to several others I know as well. And it happend to my sister in law when she didn't return her husbands broken 5150 just 2 months ago when he got a refurbed A500. She got billed for $100 on the 19th for the cost of the A500.

Just a FYI to save you some serious hassles down the road.

One thing some of you newbies have to learn, and I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but Insurance doesn't mean you get something that is the Same exact price. When you wreck your brand new Car they aren't going to give you full price for it. Same goes with phones, honestly, you should be happy they gave you a decent phone. Remember insurance doesn't mean you get your exact change back or a better or same phone. Now i can see your dellema because it doesn't have Ready Link, totally legit reason to be upset. But a $20 difference is not a legitment excuse to be upset.

umm the insurance OFFERS that they will give you the same or comparable phone. and comparable means at the very least, same form factor and options. comparing this to car insurance is like comparing apples to water melons.

Lockline will try to send you a comparable phone that is available. If the 4500 is not available they will send you something with features that are comparable. Lockline does not make phones so if they phone they send you is not available you may just be S.O.L. You than have the option to choose which is more valuable readylink or video mail. Lockline will do their best to meet your request but that is all they can promise. If you buy a limited edition car and total it do not expect the insurance company to replace it with the same model. If the model is not being made they can not give you the same thing. This is not a lockline issue as the same problem is happening in sprint stores. Sprint cannot give a phone that is not meeting production quota and you will have to get what is available at the time.

My Blue 4500 is out for delivery as I type this. I got a silver one by mistake on Tuesday of this week and called back into Executive Escalations to make them aware of their mix-up. THis will be my 4th VM4500. I can only assume that because there has been a delay in shipping these out that the ones that are being shipped are the updated ones.

Check my sig out to see what they have done to accomadate me for all of the headaches since December 2003 when i first became a customer.

When I was speaking to one of the local stores to get my VM4500 replaced, they said they were likely to get a silver one, instead of the blue one. I told them that I had an extended battery for it and they said they'd swap it for a RL2500 battery, which is the same battery, in silver.

See if your local store will do the same.

Hrmm, pretty strange with the 5500, I just bought mine, every place in town seems to be carrying them, sure there is a shortage?

Did you buy it at a Sprint Store or at a retailer such as BB or RadioShack? BB and RS have had them all along, question is...are they the updated hardware?

For the past three+ weeks, when I've called every Sprint retail store (that I knew about), they all said the same thing:

"We don't have the VM4500 on-hand, there's no in St. Louis, and we don't know when we're getting more in."

On reading MsRandall's posts, I went right to CS and seem to have ended up quite lucky. I have the replacement phone in-hand, and it's working good.

According to some people, they're appearing back in the retail channel. When I went to the Sprint store local to me, they had a silver 0101 HW VM4500 on-display, though none on-hand. For my success in checking via phone, see my above posting.

Yeh I bought it at BB, its the navy blue one, hardware 0101, soft 1,008scp.

Is that outdated?

just calmly give them a call and let them know you got the 4050 missing the RL and they will send your 5500 out, which are currently being back ordered 10-15 business days, and you can activte the 4050 till the correct one arrives, read the misunderstood post in the FAQ. :) mistakes happen guy, not lockline's fault, sprint determines comparable replacements, if you receive one that is not, just call lockline , explain which functions and features are missing that are not cosmetic and they will reorder another replacement for your dmgd equipment.
