i know commercials ruin our favorite tv shows--like my soap--and are just meant to be fast forwarded through. there's nothing worse than an intense moment fading out immediately to the newest Lysol commercial but...
some commercials are just great. my recent favorites are
-Target
-VW
-Sprint's "SEVEEENNNNNN" of course
-United

past favorites:
-McDonald's commercials in the early 80's. I still remember the jingle. Does anyone else recall that "Onnn the go..." song? Roller skates? That was classic. And it was a long song along the lines of "Quarter pounder large fries icy coke and apple pie! McDonald's and you!!" Ah...I'd sing it for you if I could, really. :D

what are your favorite commercials?

I like the anti-George Bush ads.

I also like most VW commercials, especially that older one when the dad eats the cookie he won't let his kid eat since it dropped on the floor.

Actually, my favorite commercial of all time is one of the old (really old) Sprint PCS commercials.

"Man: Well, dimple monkey, twice the pudding, octopi for tango man.
Trenchcoat Guy: I sense a little... confusion.
Man: Yeah. Very blender shoe, cellular, scooter my daisyheads.
Trenchcoat Guy: You said... "cellular."
Man: Diddley day.
Trenchcoat Guy: Those cellular plans, they can really confuse you.
(Trenchcoat Guy hands Man a Sprint PCS® phone)
Trenchcoat Guy: Here, the new Sprint PCS Free & Clear plan lets you choose one free option: long distance, nights and weekends, or wireless web.
Man: And all the calls are clear.
Trenchcoat Guy: Well said."

I still laugh whenever I read it or even think about it. I mean... "Octopi for tango man!" Classic!

Apple 1984, of course
Old Michelob commercial in which the pumped up version of 'After Midnight' is heard - The Night Belongs to Michelob.
The "how much software would you like to buy?" ads.
Budweiser "football horses" series.
first PowerMac G4 ads - 'first personal computer that the US government will not allow to be exported to certain countries' ads.

ah, THAT one... that was one that I think Chiat/Day actually did, but the really GOOD ones were done by some guy with a DV cam and 7 or 8 friends. It was crazy-good actually, had car chases, black vans, lighting, smoke, guns, Boris and Natasha types trying to sneak it outta the country, the whole nine yards...pretty hot stuff, especially for desktop editing. Unfortunately Apple Legal, as is typical, put the foot down and the guy had to pull them from his site.

Geico commercials always have me laughing out loud, especially the one when the man opens his car insurance bill and his dog starts rolling on the floor laughing. I love Geico commercials, even though I'm an Allstate customer lol.

VW commercials are also pretty good.

I also loved that Aaron Burr/Abe Lincoln Got Milk? commercial

Allstate is expensive I personally use Geico but maybe theres a difference in the Island and Brooklyn. I asked Allstate for a quote for a new mustang and they wouldnt even put me on a policy
Its mad funny when the lawyer says he cant win the case but he saved a ton of money with Geico.

Comon' fellas... what about the all-time classic Coors Wingman commercial. That one got me cracking up everytime it came on! I think I have the AVI of that one somewhere...

Then there's the Budweiser "What are yooooouuuuu doing!?!?" with the nerds... fun stuff.

Also, back in the days of the Internet boom, there was that one Superbowl that was just littered with hilarious E-trade commercials. There was the one with the old guys just clapping along with a chimp dancing on a table in the middle to some Spanish music going "a la carachahaha!" Then, after about a good 15 seconds of this completely pointless scene, E-trade plasters "Well, we just wasted 2 million bucks... what are you doing with your money?" Got that one in Quicktime format still.

Then there's the crazy daytrader dude who flips out after his stocks drop and goes flying out the window while a lady walks by. Another great E-trade commercial... that I have saved somewhere. :)

My 3 favorite commercials of all time (I think they all debuted during a SuperBowl but continued to play on TV afterwards)...

3. CrackerJacks! Seems no1 saw this one...I've only seen it once a couple of years ago. They said "CrackerJacks are back with new and improved prizes!" and this one girl has this life sized box of CrackerJacks and says "look mom, I got a pony!!!" and a pony walks out. There were other prizes but I can't remember.

2. New Jetta - When the current gen Jetta came out (not the new "refreshed" one) they had a commercial where the windshield wipers were moving and everything was in sync with them (basketballs bouncing, boxes being handed off a truck, "Don't Walk" sign).

1. For the 4th gen Nissan Maxima after it's "refreshening" (1997-99)....the commercial starst off with a auditorium of pigeons and they were discussing attacking the target: a shiny black Nissan Maxima SE. They're all trying to isht on this car but can't get it, then the car pulls into the garage and the head pigeon slams into the garage door and says "mayday!" Good stuff! That was the era where Nissan was doing all the "Life is a Journey.... Enjoy the Ride" ads with the guy with the dog.

And of course who can forget Reebok's #54 Terry Tate!!!

Of course Billy G had to buy that Apple stock. If Apple died, where would Microsoft get it's "ideas"? If you want to see where PCs are going to be in the next 5-10 years, buy a Mac today.

I think one of my all time favorites would be the VW commercial where the guy parks his jetta and then walks off and you see the shopping cart come into view rolling towards it and then you hear the guy come running back and tackles the cart full speed :)

That and most of the Mitsu commercials mainly because of the music.

I also like the new bud light and miller light ref commercials.

There's a new Bud commercial out thats a spoof of the Miller commercials...

Party setting: BBQ, drinking... Some referees come running in and call foul as soon as someone opens a Bud. Poor taste blah blah blah. The refs replace everyone's beer with what looks like a Miller and confiscate all cases of Bud.

The group gets upset and says, "but I don't want something else, I want my Bud!" and start chasing after the refs.

The refs all climb into a van, stocked full of Bud and speed off.

I thought it was a fun spoof.

I have to say my all time fave commercial is the VW Jetta where you have this girl getting ready for her wedding, and you see this guy speeding in his Jetta and presumably late for his own wedding. The bride looks sad and looks at her dad who seems to give her the stern "i told you so" looks.
The "groom" gets stuck in traffic, yells when he is stuck at a crossroad with a train going by, and finally parks his Jetta in front of the church, and runs into the church.
You then realize, he is not the groom, she is up there getting married to someone else, and the Jetta guy is probably there to tell her not to marry the schmuck shes at the altar with. She gives him an indiscernible look and the commercial ends. We don't know what happens.
It's a great commercial, and the background music was good too.

I like the VW commercial where the guy was next to a Jetta on the phone saying they had the exact car she was looking for. Then a salesman and a couple come about to go on a test drive. He then licks the door handle and they give him a look, then go to another car.

One of my favorites debut during the super bowl back in 92? Anyway it's a jean commercial, I forget which brand. Levis? At first all you see is this guy's face and he's continously sucking in air. He finally gives one last huge effort of sucking in air. Cut away to a bird in a cage in another room. The bird gets sucked out of it's cage and goes flying through numerous rooms, zig zagging all the way until the bird slams into the guys mouth. It was hilarious. The bird looked like it was doing mach 1 and when he went into the guys mouth, the guy's head went flying backward and all you could see were a few feathers floating around the guy's mouth. I think the tag line was "Need new jeans", or something like that. :hee:

Volkswagen's commercials always seem to rock... I bought a CD from www.radiovw.com the other day and it was of the most famous songs off their commercials... the one you're talking about is great... "One Million Miles Away" by J. Ralph.

My current favorite commercial has to be the Staples commercial with the grandma telling everyone to gather around the tree so she can snap a photo... and she pulls out a stapler and clicks it... LOL! The announcer is like "Take her hint, she wants a digital camera." I wish I could find a copy online, it's hillarious! :joy:

My all-time favorites are a series of DHL TV ads that they ran a few years ago (maybe 8-10 years?), meant to show the dangers of other international delivery companies that contract to a local service for delivery in the destination country (as opposed to DHL, which handles your package all the way to the destination). The two I remember:

Russia:
Wild-haired young man driving old battered delivery truck through the streets of Moscow. His voice is heard as a voiceover:
VO: "I am driver for international delivery company. Is good job! I get to use truck for rock-and-roll band."
Cut to back of truck, where the band is practicing noisily and kicking around packages. Drummer is sitting on and squashing one large box, while pounding on another with a pair of mailing tubes. Driver leans back, shouts "Yuri! Stop that!". Cut to outside view, truck careening around corner, rear doors flying open, packages falling out on the street... Truck recedes into the distance while different voiceover extols the virtues of using DHL instead.

France:
Shot of discontented-looking, beret-wearing French delivery driver sitting at table in outdoor cafe, sipping coffee. His truck is parked illegally in the background. Voiceover: "I am bored. Ze bourgeois businessmen, zey can wait for zeir packages..." Behind him, tow-truck arrives, hooks to the delivery truck, starts lifting the front. Rear doors swing open, packages tumble out on the street as the truck is towed away. Driver ignores all this, continues to sip his coffee and look moody as the DHL-is-better voiceover kicks in.

I'd love to find these online, but haven't had any luck. Anyone remember these, or have a link to an online version?
