cons:

-> the font on the front screen is too small, both for phone numbers and for the time. I like the font on the VGA1000's front screen.
-> the digital clock screen saver looks stupid. I like the digital clock on the 4900, it has shading and a 3D look to it.
-> the analog clock screen saver on the front screen is very hard to read.
-> You can't have separate screen savers for the front screen and the inside screen.
-> on the front screen, the picture is blocked by the phone status stuff. What's the sense of having a picture there if its 1/3 covered by phone status info. Make the picture separate from the phone status info.
-> For battery life I’ve gotten 3.2 hrs with the phone closed using an earpiece. So far I’ve only gotten 2.6 hrs with the phone open. The backlight doesn’t go off when you’re in a call, it stays on low brightness, so it seems to kill the battery faster.
-> I miss having the memo record button on the side.
-> the “talk” and “end” buttons are almost indistinquishable from the other buttons. I will sometimes hit the back or camera button when I mean to hit the “end” or “talk” button.
-> the "back", "camera", and the two soft key buttons are not backlit. Its easy to memorize where the buttons are. but I mean this phone cost $380, shouldn't I be able to admire all the buttons with the cool blue lighting?
-> the video feature is very gimicky. Its not really useful. Its more like "let's see if we can make it do video, cool!!" quality and actual usefulness aside. I think its Sanyo's way of getting people to pay this much for this phone.
-> The camera doesn't handle indoor, incandescant lighting very well. I don't think the auto white balance knows what to do in this scene. A work around is manually setting the white balance as low as possible and reducing the brightness a couple notches. Then it looks a little better.
-> the volume settings for the earpiece are a little wacked. the lowest one is only good if its pretty quiet and the other person is talking at normal volume. the next one up is probably close to twice as loud, literally, which is good if there's noise but if the person speaks up at all it hurts my ear drum and everyone around you can hear what they’re saying. And all the higher up volume settings are great for really noisy places but they make the earpiece garble.
-> You only get one button you can assign, the rest are preassigned and unchangable.
-> the battery remaining bars are way off. three bars lasts about 70% of the battery life, 2 bars last about 8% and one bar for the rest. So once I have two bars remaining I probably have about 20 minutes of talk time.
-> the volume doesn't go low enough when using hands free earpiece.
-> The ringer volume does not go loud enough. It needs to be louder for downloaded ringers. Sprintpcs.com included.

Biggest con: For me, it’s the disproportionate earpiece volume levels. It bugs me to have have to choose between straining to hear or wincing when my ear hurts. How did this phone get out of the workshop with the earpiece garble, wacked earpiece volumes, and wacked battery bars.

pros:

-> the colors of the screen are really brilliant.
-> the size of the screen, its nice to use and look at.
-> Reception is actually really good.
-> People I'm talking to say the sound quality is great. And my mom has the RL2500 and its really nice talking to her while she’s on it. It really is different than other cell phones.
-> Its so easy to send picture mail and messages to phones or emails and pretty fast.
-> the feel of the phone is solid. the part where the speaker and front screen is located is made of metal. that seems cool. I found this out when I dropped it on the sidewalk and it scratched, and the phone didn’t break at all.
-> the locations of the buttons, camera, and speaker are great. I find this phone much easier to hold than the 8100.
-> I like that the microphone is in the middle of the bottom of the phone and not off on one side like the VGA1000, where I would always cover it with my chin.
-> I like that I can make calls (with voice dial), pick up calls, hang up calls, answer call waiting, and take pictures all while the phone is closed. That is cool.
-> the web browser is pretty fast.
-> Having Screen Call is the greatest thing. I love not having to call my voicemail and listen to voice prompts. With screen call I just listen to it and I'm done.
-> its great that the chargers are the same for the 4900, 8100, RL2500, VM4500.
-> I like the menus. They are fast and direct and easy to navigate.
-> The camera takes great outdoor, daylight pictures. The color and clarity is very good.
-> The speaker phone is a great benefit. Say if you just need to do something quick with both hands while your in a call and you don't want to put the earpiece in, its cool to be able to put on speaker phone and keep talking. And it works well too, although really garbled at higher volumes.
-> It has a 32 chord ringer, ringers sound very good. Most other phones have 16 chord ringers at most.
-> Quality construction. No buggy behavior. Very dependable.

Biggest Pro: it’s the best phone Sprint has for call quality and dependability. Also Screen Call and Speaker Phone are big bonuses. It’s a great phone but its a bit of a disappointment, considering the cons. I like Sprint but I mean for about the same money Motorola is making smart phones that actually do more useful things than make phone calls. And where’s the MP3 player? I know these phone are out there. Friends in Europe have told me they have them. Do we still need to be paying this much for 3 year old technology?
