Is Sprint standardizing chargers for all their phones? I've gotten that impression from some posts I've read here recently.
I have just moved from the A620 to a 5500 and I'm wondering if it'll be safe to use my A620 car charger with the 5500. Are the chargers the same for these two phones (they look it).

Yea, Sanyo phones can use both Standardized chargers and Sanyo chargers.

So you're saying that the Samsung A620 charger is a "standardized" charger?

This has been going on for quite some time now. I believe the A500 was the first phone to use that charger (but not sure.)

They were released right around the same time... but the a460 beat out the a500 by about 3-4 weeks; if memory serves me correctly.

So, if I'm reading all this right, can I assume that a charger for the A460 will be safe to use with my A620? I just bought a home/car charger pack off ebay on an auction that advertised it was for the A620. When I received it today, the chargers are marked as being for the A460. I'm going on a long road trip this weekend, and will really need the car charger, but don't want to risk blowing my phone out.
Thanks, everybody!

the a460 was the first standardized phone. i wouldnt suggest using the standardized charger on a phone that offers another charging option like the sanyos, or the a620. we are constantly seeing these phones fried from using the VPA in the standard port (mainly 7300 and a620's)

A little "technology stupid" here, but can someone explain to me about "standardized"?

that means that its the same charger for all the phones...a simple lil PLUG connector, instead of one which you connect to the bottom of the phone...

Sorry to keep this going, but what other charging option is there? What's a VPA? Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

Hmmm, so I'm screwed then? :(nah..u r fine.. stick around. just the two phones that stick out in my mind as giving trouble from a standard charger are the a620 (3 this month) and the 7300 (5 this month). the odds are slim, but it does happen- usually with the VPA. ive never been a big fan of those kind of chargers anyway- home chargers dont seem to give us any trouble, just the vehicle ones. i think youll be fine. dont stress over it. it is warranty issue anyways, so on the outside chance it does happen, your friendly local neighborhood sprintstore should be able to help you out.
the 620 is a good little phone :)

Thanks again, guys, for your help.

I love it! I originally had the 8100 (which I lost on the 6 train on Christmas Eve :( ), so decided to "upgrade" to the VGA1000 when I had to get another. Miss the 8100, but I'm quite happy with this one.

With a cute little AV photo like yours, I doubt anyone wants you to leave ;-)
I have a related question that I hope someone can help me out with. I know that this is an old thread but it seemed the most relevant. Anyways, I have had a Samsung a620 for about six months and it is currently dead. I usually charge it with my travel adapter and have only charged it a few times with my car charger. Recently I tried charging it with my universal VPA and my phone made a horrible noise but refused to charge. I tried charging it with my travel adapter--no charge. I called Samsung about this and they immediately asked if I used a Samsung or generic car charger. I use a generic one, which they claim voids my warranty. What should I do? If I take my phone to a Sprint store will they able to fix it and does it still fall under my warranty? Is the problem likely the charger? The fact that Samsung immediately asked about my car charger leads me to believe that this is a fairly common problem. I'm a little upset that Sprint told me that it was fine to use the universal charger if it's causing this problem and has voided my warranty.
Thanks for your help! I guess I should add the disclaimer that I know nothing about phones and chose mine primarily because it was pretty.

It is ok to use the universal charger (hopefully you mean standardized). However, generic equipment voids the warranty (states it in your warranty info in the instruction book). Our stuff is more expensive, but better quality.. I've seen a ton of $7 car chargers that fry phones..

I just had this problem with different phone. With universal non-sprint chargers they have a tendancy to move the pin inside the charging port making it useless. You will know when your phone tries to charge and it blinks, makes noises, and doesnt charge at all. The solution is to bring the charger to sprint and they will change it out for the one that clips in the bottom. I just replaced mine on my VM4500 because I was using an old charger back when I had my VGA1000. I have the same problem with my VGA1000 which my dad currently has now and I am being told theres a possibility that it cant be fixed and I will have to replace it.

This a good question, cause I have been using my G/F LG 5225 charger to charge my a500 and now my a760 and it seems fine, charges and the phone isn't fried, but my a500 charger will not properly fit into my a760 go figure, Does someone have a concrete answer to all this.
From what I understand is that the opening ports are suppose to be sized according to voltage and amps, therefore making it idiot proof.
